  1. Just a gentle reminder to keep the topic to Sammy and steroids, please.
  2. Rob Neyer had this to say in his Tuesday Taters article. Link.
  3. I think the humorous part about all this is that almost everything Canseco claimed is being proved true. He may have been an attention whore, but he apparently didn't lie nearly as much as everyone wanted us to believe he did.
  4. I think you make an excellent point that part of the reason everyone makes a deal about it with baseball players is due to the sacredness of the numbers. I also think it's combined with a romantic idea of baseball. Rightly or wrongly, many people have a romanticized view of baseball that isn't attached to other sports. The attachement to certain records in baseball combined with the romanticized ideal of the past makes fans respond to this issue a lot more than in other sports. It's unfortunate. While I'd prefer it if steroids and other ped's weren't ever introduced to the game, I try not to let it affect my opinion of the player. Even for me, sometimes this is hard to do.
  5. Just for the record, I'd probably be prohibited from posting pics of hot chicks whether I was a mod or not. But if you're dying to see hot chicks, just do a GIS for Keeley Hazell with the safe search off. Thank me later. Since we can all see them there, there's no need for me to post them here.
  6. I had to make concessions to get the promotion.
  7. On Bruce Miles's blog for the Daily Herald (Link), someone asks about the Cubs interest in Hudson. This was Bruce's response.
  8. This article from SI says that Sheets will have the surgery and the earliest he could pitch would be the second half of 2009. This all but guarantees no one will sign Sheets until after June.
  9. Hudson had some pretty large demands at the start of the signing period, if I recall correctly.
  10. Jones could be an interesting option, but the rumor is he's about to sign a minor league deal with the Rangers. Man, I would've liked Andruw on a minor league deal. He's almost certainly completely done, but for extremely cheap, it's a risk I'd take. Yeah. I said the same thing about Richard Hidalgo a few years back. :(
  11. I agree here. Hudson doesn't have DeRosa's versatility. My guess is that the Cubs really aren't that interested.
  12. I too hate that we gave Rich Hill away for nothing, but I don't fault Hendry on this one. Had Hill shown any control whatsoever in winter league, there might have been hope that he had corrected the problem. The only way we would have held on to him when camp broke when be if he was good in every outing this spring. One bad outing where he couldn't find the zone or hit half the other team's line-up, then there would have been enough questions in Lou and Jim's mind to place him on the outs with this team. If he had options, I think this is an entirely different scenario with an entirely different outcome. As it was, he was too great a risk to hold to much longer.
  13. Jones could be an interesting option, but the rumor is he's about to sign a minor league deal with the Rangers.
  14. How cheaply will he come? Hudson is not a bad player by any means. He probably has at least 2-3 productive seasons left in him as well. He'd improve our line-up and bump Fontenot back to the bench. That being said, I wouldn't want to pay too much for him.
  15. I loved Ryno as a player, and I really don't want to find myself in a situation where I'm shouting obscenities at my favorite player of all time. Having read his thoughts on many things, I really hope he is never given the opportunity to manage the Cubs. I just don't see it ending well. He can be the bench coach for a good manager, the hitting instructor, third base coach, head groundscrewman, or whatever ...but I honestly don't want him managing the Cubs. Right now, I'm not sure who I would like to manage the Cubs when Lou leaves, but I'm about 99.9% certain I don't want it to be Sandberg.
  16. There's certainly some circumstantial evidence that would tend to point to Sammy as a user, but really nothing tangible. I'm not going to buy the size of his head argument unless someone has some before and after measurements. The facts are that there's never been anything that could remotely be considered proof that Sammy abused steroids. No one has caught him buying, we have no failed tests, and we don't have any witness accounts of his discussing usage or witnessing his usage. Until at least there is at least something of that nature, I'm going to say that he didn't use. I won't be shocked if any of those things ever came to light, but right now, I don't think anyone can honestly accuse him. If so, I guess anyone could be accused.
  17. Oh...and another thing. In the article I linked above, I found this interesting.
  18. Rosenthal is suggesting that the Angels have interest in Dunn or Abreu. Link He's also reporting that either one might sign for a 1yr 8 million deal. That would be a steal!
  19. I thought the I-Cubs pretty much played at Wrigley the entire 2006 season.
  20. LSU lost a few players that I hoped we would sign (Kenny Bell, Benton, and possibly Jackson), but we're still ranked 1 or 2 depending on who you look at it. It's now being reported that Miles pulled the scholarship offer to Benton. Some think that this may have been done to insure Randel would sign there. Benton is still waiting on the clearinghouse to get eligible. Jackson could still sign with LSU. He's been a long-time LSU commit, but his father his good friends with Orgeron. We'll have to wait until 9 AM this morning to see what happens, but the rumblings are that he'll sign with UT.
  21. LSU did lose DeAngelo Benton to Auburn. Benton had signed the past two years with LSU, but couldn't get accademically eligible. He had said only yesterday he would honor his earlier commitment to LSU, but this morning decided to sign with Auburn. Getting Randle, of course, softens that blow considerably.
  22. One hellova signing day for LSU. Some are saying this may be the best recruiting class in the school's history. Rivals has LSU #1, Scout has them #2, and #1 on ESPN. With Davenport, Randle, Shepard, and Loston- there is a lot of talent coming to Baton Rouge for next year.
  23. According to SI, Dunn has an offer on the table from the Nationals but hasn't accepted it yet.
  24. Someone pissed on Matt Cassel at the Super Bowl. Link.
