  1. Personally, I had no problem trading Wuertz. I do have a problem trading Wuertz for garbage, which is what this appears to me. I just can't fathom that this would be all Hendry could have gotten for him.
  2. Well, at least this Super Bowl was entertaining.
  3. safety!
  4. Most people have no idea where he will go. He's visiting Auburn this weekend, but many believe that it will come down to LSU, Bama, or Oklahoma. Supposedly both Saban and Miles were at Bastrop High School at the same time last week.
  5. The Rivals number 2 recruit Rueben Randle will not make a decision known until noon on Wednesday, but there's a rumor going around that his dad was seen yesterday wearing an LSU cap. Take it for what it's worth. LSU could have the number one class without him, but he would be a nice addition to what is already shaping out to be a very good class.
  6. At best, Fox could be an emergency catcher in the major leagues, but his skills as a receiver are really bad. He has the tools to play catcher, but just didn't cut it there. I don't think he got any time behind the plate at all last year in AA, though I could be wrong on that.
  7. They were acting like talks with the Rangers and Sheets were heating up, but that has gone quite the past couple of days. Depending on who I believe, the talks have quieted because a. the Rangers were nervous about lingering issues with Sheets's elbow. b. The Rangers low-balled him with an offer and Sheets is still looking for more money and more years. I'm not certain which is closer to the truth, or if both are accurate. But that's what I've heard from and read concerning it.
  8. The problem with that is any team not wanting to give up compensation would have a handshake agreement with players and all big deals would be signed the first day after the deadline. Then MLB would be innundated with complaints of how people are abusing the system. I'll admit the current format needs tinkering; I'm just not certain of the best way to handle it.
  9. The list of names is certainly interesting. Manny would be a huge addition to any team. I still can't believe Adam Dunn is out there. Even with his faults, he should have been signed by now. I believe Sheets will be a huge value for anyone who gets him. I still think a lot of those guys are out there because there is still a disconnect between what teams are willing to pay them and their demands. I don't think it's for a lack of interest. Manny is still looking for 20+ million a season. At that price, especially for multiple years, I can see why he's still out there. I'm not sure what Dunn's demands are. Sheets is still likely wanting a 3 year or longer deal. Reports are that he will likely have to settle for two years and for less money than he wants. At some point, these players will lower their demands, and interest likely will pick up.
  10. I would have preferred Tom Goodwin.
  11. So, you going to be able to help me with this?
  12. Sheets isn't the only FA that makes you wonder why he isn't signed. Manny is still out there. Adam Dunn remains unsigned. The same goes for Bobby Abreu and Orlando Hudson. While all of these might carry some questions or red flags (Sheets- injury, Dunn- defense, Abreu-age and declining performance, Manny- perceived attitude), these are guys who would have gotten large multi-year deals in years past. To have all of thse guys along with other lesser players like Jon Garland, Jason Varitek, Orlando Cabrera and others still looking for work is evidence that teams just aren't willing to commit long-term money to players this winter. While there have been some big contracts signed, my guess is that these players aren't signed because no one is interested, but that many aren't signed because no one is interested at the dollars and years for which they are asking. Sooner or later, someone will either step to the plate and offer what they are looking for (doubtful) or the players will begin to adjust their demands and take the best offer they can still find. Sheets may not be signed because teams see something really bad in his elbow, or it may be that in light of the economy, teams have adjusted their tolerance for risk and Sheets is still looking for a bigger payday.
  13. I'd like to know how various players perform depending on what Cubs clothing I chose to wear. In other words, what is Theriot's BA when I wear my Cubs tie to work? What is Fontenot's SLG% when I wear my Cajun Connection t-shirt? What is Zambrano's whip when I wear my Soriano jersey? That's stuff that could absolutely help me plan my wardrobe for the day.
  14. 1 yr 5.5 million. If he stays healthy, he'll get 12 million.
  15. I picked Kidd too.
  16. I think Sheets is quite comparable to Peavy. The key difference between the two is Sheets has a larger injury history. But performance wise, Peavy is better, but not better to pass on the bargain that Sheets might be, especially if the Padres have extremely enormous demands. 2008 Sheets- 198.3 IP, 3.09 ERA, 1.150 WHIP, 139 ERA +, 158/47 (K/BB). Peavy- 173.7 IP, 2.85 ERA, 1.180 WHIP, 134 ERA+, 166/59. In the most recent season, Sheets pitched more innings and allowed fewer baserunners per inning. Performance wise, Sheets is just as good a pitcher as Peavy. The risk with Sheets is this (156, 106, 141, 198). Those are the innings pitched over the last four seasons. With Peavy, he's been over 200IP in every season except 2008. But when both pitchers are on the mound, the talent they bring is pretty close. If we were talking about signing Sheets to a Peavy-ish deal, I'd probably go ahead and make the deal for Peavy. But if Sheets could be had for 3/39 or less (and indications are that he could), and the Cubs get to keep Vitters and Castillo, then I'd definitely choose Sheets over Peavy.
  17. Well, if Sheets is even cheaper than what I'm floating, I'd go that route, injury history be damned. We're not talking about a Prior-Wood level of fragility. Sheets will likely give us 150 IP. When he pitches, he's going to be good. Zambrano, Harden, Sheets, Lilly, and Dempster would be one hellova rotation. We'd still have Marshall to fill in for Harden or Sheets when those two miss time. We'd also keep what little depth we have on the farm for a future deal if needed.
  18. At that price, we should see what Sheets would cost on a 2-3 year deal. While I like Peavy, a lot, and I don't think he's the health risk that Sheets is, Sheets is nearly as good and wouldn't cost Vitters and Castillo.
  19. I'll join IMB in the Cowboys war room.
  20. Even if they update and fix the territorial rights, it won't change the Saturday black-out as that is a different issue. FOX pays to have exclusive rights, so the black-out there is part of the contract.
