Not if you are a Cubs fan. It's all relative brah. Bingo. It's too bad you didn't get that point when you made your original post. It would have saved me the trouble of explaining it to you. So you're saying I'm right? Because yes, in the championship department, the Cardinals organization has been more successful, but this wasn't about which has been the most "successful" organization, its about the fact that Busch isn't as important or historic of a ballpark as Wrigley. Are you actually reading these posts or do you just like to tell yourself that everyone agrees with you? Just asking. Don't worry, Wolf. It's just his subtle trolling which he has made a habit of doing. He's done it before and he'll do it again. When called on it, he'll try to backpedal and make excuses, but his true colors are evident. -
Sarcasm? If Bradley produces, I am fine with him hating all peoples, Jeff Kent and his family included. :wink: None at all. Both Baker and Bradley are African-American. Hopefully, Bradley will believe that Dusty can relate to his struggles, whether those are perceived or real. Dusty is supposed to have a reputation to soothe the savage souls. Hopefully, he can work his magic with Bradley. I'd definitely take a flyer on him. The Dodgers are likely to trade him away cheaply, and I'd love for the Cubs to benefit from it.

I can't find the link to where I've read that Bradley is definitely being shopped. I think once the Dodgers settle their front office mess, you'll see a Bradley deal happen pretty quickly.

offer them a bunch of junk and they'll bite? they do have their own 40 man roster, you know. I agree it is doubtful they would bite. I think a lot depends on how badly they need to move Mench and what other teams are offering. Mitre would be an excellent starting point. He's shown enough promise to interest teams, but he's likely going to be a casualty at the end of spring training. Waiting until then to deal him likely lowers his value.

The Cubs also could overwhelm the Rangers will volume of players who likely will have to be exposed to waivers. Mitre, Leicester, Wellemeyer- all are out of options and all might not make the Opening Day roster. Add to these some of the rule V casualties and you might get the Rangers to bite based on volume alone. Much depends on how budget concious the Rangers are.

What if we could get Mench for Mitre and Leicester? Both pitchers are out of options and likely are no longer in the Cubs immediate plans. We could end up losing both pitchers to a waiver claim at the end of spring training. While I doubt Mitre and Leicester are near enough to get the Rangers to bite, it surely isn't a bad offer if the Rangers can get Mitre to work consistently in the zone. Mench isn't a horrible option, but I'll agree he isn't the best. I'd rather have Giles for rightfield, but trading for Mench would give us insurance in the case we can't sign or trade for a bigger name.

It appears that the Rangers are interested in shopping Mench and the Cubs have been metioned as a destination. Link Mench is 27 years old, but is likely not the impact bat we crave for RF. In 2005, he hit 264/328/469 with 25 HR's. From 2002-2004, he hit 276/337/496. Unlike most Rangers in 2005, his road splits aren't significantly different than his home splits. So, should we be interested in Mench and how much should we pay to get him?

If we sign Furcal and then also get one of Giles, Abreu, or Matsui; I'd prefer to let Patterson have one last shot in CF. Yes, Wilson's numbers were better, but Patterson is younger and brings more upside. If we add Furcal and Giles, then we can afford to have a weaker bat in CF.

There's not many deals I'd make for Ramirez. I certainly wouldn't trade him for Torii Hunter. I also wouldn't trade him for Manny unless the Red Sox send over Hanley Ramirez or eat a ton of Manny's salary as well. I would consider trading him for Alex Rodriguez. I have to get a young impact player to even think about letting Aramis go anywhere.

I just called my brother who is at the game. He said there maybe 40,000 there. LSU seats 100,000 so it's easy for it to look empty if there aren't at least 75,000. He did say the crowd is about half what it was last week...and half what it was at the LSU game last night.

Does Thome have a NTC? Why would Pittsburgh give up 3 of their "better" players for a giant injury risk. Thome would give Pittsburg a big bat. My guess is Macowiak will be non-tendered. He'll be due nearly 3 million in arbitration and Pitt sees him as a utility player. Redmond is rumored to being shopped as it is. They picked up his option in order to shop him from what I've read. Right now, they may be looking at having five lefties in the rotation. Padilla would give them a starter to replace Redmond. I doubt the deal would work, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

How about this three-way deal? Cubs get Abreu Phillies get Blalock and Williams Rangers get Thome, Padilla, and Bell along with 6 million from the Cubs (2 2006-2008) and 4 million from the Phillies (2 per year 2007-2008)

How about this one: Cubs get Abreu. Phillies get Mark Redmond, Rob Macowiak, and Craig Wilson. Pirates get Thome and Padilla and 2 million from the Cubs in 2006, and 7 million from the Phillies (3.5 in 2007 and 3.5 in 2008)

I think one of the best ways for the Cubs to get in on this is to help facilitate the moving of Thome for the Phillies. With the cash the Cubs have to play with, that might be a route to go. On the other hand, what about this scenario. Cubs get: Abreu and Castillo Phillies get Lowell, Williams, and Patterson and another prospect from the Cubs. Marlins get Walker, Bell, Nolasco, and Padilla. The Cubs get two premier players. The Phillies move some salary and replace Bell with Lowell. The Marlins move some salary and pick up a pitcher. I don't think this deal has a chance, but it was something I could throw out there. As I look more closely at it, I'll try to come up with a better scenario. I really think the best deal for Philly would be to trade Bell, Abreu, and Padilla to Texas for Blalock and Mench.

i'd take sizemore. Me too, but I think Crisp or a bullpen arm is more likely. You? Yeah, I agree. I'd be willing to kick in a decent prospect if it would land us Sizemore, though. Vance--I kind of like your plan. I forgot we'd theoretically have Furcal and thus have no need for a leadoff guy. Assuming he can handle CF, Crisp would be an upgrade over CP. However, does it make more sense to trade Walk for pen help and sign one of the serviceable FA CF (a la Lofton)? Maybe...but then we also have a number of internal bullpen options. If we trade Walker for Crisp, we could also use Walker's 2.5 million to sign a bullpen arm. I'd ask for Crisp if possible. Plus, I'd love to be able to say in a game thread, "I'm Coo Coo for Coco Crisp!"

What about Walker for Coco Crisp? Can he play CF? OUt of curiousity, where would you bat him. OBP is a bit low for leadoff. I'd play him in CF. He's played 188 games there compared to 216 in left. I wouldn't use him as a lead-off hitter, but I think he'd be fine in the seventh or eighth spot. And since trading Walker is predicated on signing Furcal, we would already have our lead-off hitter. Crisp isn't a great player, but he isn't poor either. In 2005, he hit 300/345/465 which is much better than we got from any of our centerfielders. From 2002-2004, he hit 290/333/428. He rarely walks, but his numbers aren't bad if he can handle CF. If we're determined to trade Walker, and if we've signed Furcal, Crisp gives us a decent option to use.

How can you hate Craig Biggio! Blasphemy. Look up baseball player in an encyclopedia and there's Craig. I just have a dislike for a player who leans into pitches with the benefit of an extremely large elbow pad. If he could take all those HBP without use of the pad, I might have more respect for him.
