I think one of the best ways for the Cubs to get in on this is to help facilitate the moving of Thome for the Phillies. With the cash the Cubs have to play with, that might be a route to go. On the other hand, what about this scenario. Cubs get: Abreu and Castillo Phillies get Lowell, Williams, and Patterson and another prospect from the Cubs. Marlins get Walker, Bell, Nolasco, and Padilla. The Cubs get two premier players. The Phillies move some salary and replace Bell with Lowell. The Marlins move some salary and pick up a pitcher. I don't think this deal has a chance, but it was something I could throw out there. As I look more closely at it, I'll try to come up with a better scenario. I really think the best deal for Philly would be to trade Bell, Abreu, and Padilla to Texas for Blalock and Mench.
