  1. The NL Cy Young will be awarded today, and I expect Carp (erroneously based on wins) will be named the winner. Dayn Perry, injects an interesting name into the discussion. I'd still rank Clemens ahead of Pettitte, but he does make a good case for him.
  2. Dayn Perry pimps Derrek Lee for the MVP. Excellently written and well-stated.
  3. Neifi will start because he's a bass. Ronny is just a minnow. When you're fishing, everyone knows you need a bass before a minnow because when the catfish and carp come along, you'd rather have that bass. Now Derrek Lee he's my swordfish, but you only need one sword fish....
  4. That's exactly what I was thinking. You must be reeeeaaaallly smart. I'm not so sure. How's his defense? Hendry may bring him up if he shows he can catch the ball.
  5. We surely don't want anyone clogging the bases.
  6. What I find interesting is the same analysts who espouse win as the best metric for starting pitchers are the same guys that say you can't win without a good bullpen. Doesn't that in itself speak to the fact that it isn't entirely in the control of the starting pitcher to get a win.
  7. Dude, you dont' pay a gy that kind of money to sit the bench. And remember last season, that dude saved us.
  8. I agree. I can understand that Hendry might see a value in Neifi Perez, I just don't see the need to pay him 2.5 per when there weren't other bidders for his services.
  9. According to the Dallas Morning News (registration required), the Cubs have contacted the Rangers about Mench. I think Mench could cost a good deal more than Mitre, though. I'd have to think Affeldt has more value than Mitre, so just a deal involving Mitre isn't likely to get it done.
  10. OOOHHH...I love it when people use the word "groupthink"! It's so obvious we all just get together and come up with mindless "groupthink." Oooh yeah!
  11. OML....Ripken was one of the classiest guys to ever play the game! He carried on the streak because he said he believed he was paid to be a player and that meant that every day he went to work to do his job. In all my years of getting autographs and going to ballplayers, I've never encountered a superstar who carried himself with as much class and humility as Ripken. I just can't see how anyone would put Ripken on a most hated list of ballplayers.
  12. No team could have discussed finances with Neifi, so no, that's not a possibility.
  13. It's Walker's fault everybody. Hendry only likes guys who can catch the ball. Hitting the ball doesn't factor in, unless you count hitting into double plays.
  14. Once again thanks, Bruce. Put a bug in Jim's ear that he should look to sign Dotel to a Dempster/Williamson like deal. And try not to laugh if he says that he likes guys who catch the ball again.
  15. Santana was robbed and I fully expect Clemens to get robbed when the NL Cy is announced.
  16. Somehow I get the feeling Jon is busy working on some new photshops. I think today's events have inspired him. BTW, I don't know if now would be a good time to line up a Q&A with Jim Hendry around here.
  17. LSU beat the team they were to play in the National Title game; therefore they are the 2003 National Champs. Your thoughts not withstanding, LSU was still the champion.
  18. Not exactly true. The Yankees signed Lofton before the 2004 season to be on the bench with a 2/6 million dollar contract.
  19. Jon has officially gone off the deep end. Welcome to our world, Jon. Welcome to our world.
  20. You know its bad when Jon is losing his hope in this team. I haven't worn my Cubs hat since August and I didn't bother to watch or listen to any games after that. Hendry and Baker are the first two to suck out all of my optimism with the Cubs. So kudos to them. I'm just glad Pie's poor performance so far this fall will likely keep him in the minors. Right? I don't know, Jon. Pie's defense has been good and Hendry has decided he likes guys who can catch the ball.
  21. I refuse to believe that Hendry sees Dunn as anything but a guy with a low average and below-average defense who strikes out a ton. I'm not sure Dunn catches the ball well enough for Hendry to like him.
  22. Thanks, Bruce. I'm getting the feeling this is going to be a horrible offseason. Maybe they should introduce the team at this year's convention..."Ladies and Gentelmen, your 2006 5th place Chicago Cubs! But hey...we can catch the ball!"
  23. We need one with Neifi and Hendry's new mantar, "I like guys who can catch the ball."
  24. Just wait for the outfield of Jaque Jones, Preston Wilson, and Juan Encarnacion. Those guys can catch the ball.
  25. 1. Do the Cubs have any interest in the following: a. Milton Bradley? b. Brian Giles? c. Luis Castillo? d. Octavio Dotel? 3. Kevin Mench? 2. Why Neifi? 3. How long before Walker is gone?
