  1. If Tejada is available, I think the following teams could afford him and would have serious interest: 1. Red Sox 2. Cubs 3. Cardinals 4. Rangers 5. Diamondbacks 6. Astros (I don't intend for those six teams to be comprehensive, but I'm pretty sure all those teams would have some to intense interest if Tejada were truly available.) Who could offer the better package would all depend on how badly each team wants him. The Rangers could offer Kinsler and Mench or Kinsler and Wilkerson. The Diamondbacks could offer Quentin and Vasquez. The Astros may be willing to part with Everett, Qualls, and Backe. I think any of those teams would have interest and each could put together a package that would rival the Cubs. That being said, Tejada isn't going anywhere. When they discussed it on MLB Live This Morning, XM 175, Buck Martinez said the Orioles response to Tejada is probably, "See you in March."
  2. Call me an idiot, but I might do that deal. I still hold on to Williams for depth this year or to trade for a RF. Cedeno is superfluous if I get Tejada. Guzman has a great ceiling, but I can't overlook the injury risk. I'd probably make that trade.
  3. About the Question Marks: Youklis can play first. I also wouldn't be surprised if they add someone there. SS is the biggest question mark. Right now leftfield is not a question. Manny is there and I sincerely doubt he walks away from 20+ million dollars. On top of that, Manny received a 16 million dollar signing bonus which the Red Sox could seek to recoup a portion of if he refuses to report to training camp. Also, if Manny is traded, you can bet some players would be coming back to Boston. CF is a ?, but I'd bet on Damon returning. The rotation is: Schilling Beckett Wells Clement Arroyo/ Wakefield Miller likely will be non-tendered. If Wells is traded, Papelbon likely steps into the rotation and he's pretty good. You think they'd take Vasquez from AZ? How about Lowell @ 1b? They might have some interest in Vasquez, I don't know. Another point on Manny. I heard three different people on XM say today that they don't believe that Manny is going anywhere. They also said they don't see Manny sitting out and that while he may be difficult to deal with, that's nothing new with Manny. I'm not sure they'd put Lowell at 1b. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign J.T. Snow or pursue a trade for Mike Sweeney.
  4. With the Red Sox in the market for a SS, I'm not sure a 3-way is even needed. Send Manny to the Orioles and Tejada to the Red Sox. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRADE CLAUSE! Both those guys are asking to be traded, who has the NTC, Manny? Yes, Manny has 10/5 status. Why would Manny want to go to Baltimore? Well, what if the Red Sox approached him with this: Manny, we know you want out, so we tried to accomodate you. The only team we found that would take you and give us what we would need to let you go is Baltimore. If you want to be traded, fine. We can do this deal with Baltimore. If you regect it, we will no longer pursue to trade you and you will either be a Red Sox or sit out the next three years. By the way, if you don't play, we won't pay you and we'll seek to recoup 3/5 of your signing bonus.

  6. I'm sure about half the teams in MLB have contacted the Orioles. I still suspect that Miguel will not be traded.
  7. Here's mine: 2b Luis Castillo 3b Alex Rodriguez 1b Albert Pujols RF Vlad Guererro LF Miguel Cabrera SS Miguel Tejada CF Carlos Beltran C Joe Mauer SP Johan Santana SP Carlos Zambrano SP Roy Halladay SP Mark Prior SP Jake Peavy CL Brad Lidge I'm not going to do the bullpen or bench. Hell, with that line-up who needs a bench?
  8. If true, then the market for Walker is really drying up. That could be a blessing in disguise.
  9. He doesn't have any choice on the issue. Unless he's non-tendered, he's the property of the Cubs.
  10. I'll make the bold prediction that Tejada will not be traded.
  11. With the Red Sox in the market for a SS, I'm not sure a 3-way is even needed. Send Manny to the Orioles and Tejada to the Red Sox.
  12. Millwood would be nice, but at 4/44 or higher, I'll pass. I'd take a look at Washburn and Weaver and see what the price for poker would be. I might try to get Weaver on a one-year make good deal. I'd also inquire into what it will take to get Vasquez from the Diamondbacks. Ideally, I'd like to use that extra payroll room to see if taking Milton would grease the wheels to bring Dunn here.
  13. If we can't trade Patterson, we'll have to decide if he's worth the 3 million arbitration risk to have on the bench by December 20th. With the extra money we have this year, unless we've made a big trade between now and then that eats up a significant portion of the 16-18 million we will still have left, I'd keep him on the bench. Corey is athletic enough to play all three outfield spots and if nothing else makes a decent pinch runner. On the other hand, if he isn't traded, I fully expect him to be non-tendered. My guess is if Corey isn't moved before then, we'll send him somewhere at the non-tender deadline for a marginal prospect.
  14. But they shipped off the outfielder we would want to rip them off for. :x
  15. So, I'm guessing those reports that Aardsma wasn't on the 40-man weren't quite accurate then?
  16. He might stick...but making the jump from A ball to the majors is huge. The Cards expect to contend, so there's no way they could hide him if he struggles. My guess they felt the gamble was worth 50K.
  17. What's interesting about the Jones signing is two years ago he struggled to find anyone who'd let him pitch, much less pay him that much change.
  18. But did the sarcasm exist because in his initial response that he couldn't see how anyone would value Wilkerson over Pierre implied ignorance on the part of those who do value Wilkerson over Pierre. Sometimes if you want to have a discussion without rhetorical sarcasm, making statements that seem absolute or that imply ignorance on the other side isn't necessarily the best way. Statements like that often challenge people to come out with "barrells blazing" so to speak.
  19. I can't wait until he signs on with the Cardinals. Oh god, would I laugh my butt off.
  20. I can see why the Braves made this move. It's been clear, as my Braves fan friend informs me, that Cox was less than thrilled with Betemit as an everyday player. Also Chipper will not move from third and the Braves had doubts about Marte in left. I think they were willing to move Marte for Lugo and when that didn't happen began looking at Renteria. I'm eager to hear if the Sox are picking up salary and how much they will pick up. Marte will probably be in Fenway this year as the Sox's thirdbaseman. They've also added Loretta. Depending on what they do with Manny, the Sox could have a very different looking team next season.
  21. How does intolerance rule? Has anyone ever told you that you could not post a traditional metric for players here? While by sheer numbers of posters, you may be outnumbered...but that isn't intolerance. In fact, more than one poster has asked for your opinion or at least for you to clarify it or support it. That also isn't intolerant. Are we intolerant because we will disect your view? No. Are you not allowed to disect ours? Surely. This is an exchange of ideas. Whether wittingly or not, when you bow out of a discussion, the message it sends is that your arguments could not stand up under scrutiny. Please share your ideas. Will they be attacked, likely. But you never know...someone might be convinced. If you don't share them, then by all means, don't be surprised when no one is. Surely don't try to claim some martrydom of intolerance. Intolerance would be telling you that your ideas aren't welcome here and that surely has never happened.
  22. I like this deal for the Cardinals mainly because the players they got suck.
  23. Marte is going to rake playing at Fenway in that line-up. That kid can hit.
