  1. I bought some cokes to give my students. We had Sprite, Coke, Dr. Pepper, Sunkist, and Mountain Dew.
  2. I'd love to have Manny, but we just don't have the players to offer Boston in a trade. It would take a very creative three-way trade to get it done. It could be possible to involve the Devil Rays with Lugo and Huff going to the Red Sox, prospects going to the Rays and Manny coming to the Cubs.
  3. I think one of the deals is for Ibanez. He's not great, but I think he'd slot into the line-up well and we're not tied to a long-term investment. I really doubt the Cubs are even remotely in the Manny sweepstakes, but depending on what the Red sox would want in return, I'd have to consider it.
  4. Well one thing I like about the Looper and Rincon signings is that Tony LeftRightLeft LaRusa will either have to burn his relievers quickly in the same inning or will be forced to leave one of these guys in a precarious position. If Looper is only facing righties, he's way overpaid for that duty.
  5. I just went down to the teacher's lounge to get a coke. I'm drinking Sprite.
  6. This reminds me that I need to go to the store and pick up some cokes.
  7. My guess, one of the deals is Todd Walker + Wellemeyer (or someone like him) to Seattle for Ibanez. Other deals could include one for Huff, Drew, or Mench. I've also wondered if the Cubs might have approached San Francisco about Alou.
  8. Eh... I vote for da B&. This is so davemasonish.
  9. If we're going to keep Patterson around, why not sign Richard Hidalgo to be a platoon partner.
  10. I'd argue that J.S. in Atlanta is the best GM. Putting together a team that can win its division 14 straight years has to count for something.
  11. Right now there are no decent options for RF. If the Cubs can get Tejada and keep Walker, they may be able to gamble in RF with a reclamation guy like Richard Hidalgo or someone like that. What's even worse, if Hendry trades Walker without bringing in a quality bat for right, we could end up with Cedeno, Neifi, and a sub-standard bat for a RF all in the same line-up. That is what really, really concerns me at this point. No player available is certain to produce. Are there some that could produce well enough? Certainly. The probabilities just are too good.
  12. How do we fit Tejada's 12 million and Manny's 20 million into the budget?
  13. I, too agree that the payroll hasn't been slashed, but it's more that there's not many players worth spending the money on. Hendry had allocated 9-10 million for Furcal, and when he didn't get him, he hasn't found a use for that money just yet. Maybe we'll see it spent on Tejada, but that remains to be seen.
  14. I'll go one step further, I'd take Pokey Reece at SS if it meant Cabrera was in LF.
  15. S.F. wouldn't trade Vizquel, and even if they would, I wouldn't want him. He's old and overpaid. Just say no.
  16. Sport or no?
  17. For those closer to the situation, what are the other possible locations for the Jaxx if they leave Jackson. I know Macon, Georgia has been mentioned, but have there been exploratory talks with any other communities?
  18. Would you trade Pie for Huff? If not, why? I'm curious why everyone's gotten the idea that Pie is untouchable. I would be willing to trade Pie in the right deal, but not for Huff. If Pie with a combination of other players could get me Tejada, Abreu, or Dunn...or some player of that caliber, certainly I'd move him.
  19. I would try the same thing with Harvey, Dope, Moore, and others. I'd like to keep either Hill or Williams, and I would like to keep Cedeno. But they would not be deal breakers in my mind. My thoughts too. I'd like to keep one of Hill or Williams. Trading Cedeno isn't a deal breaker since I'll have Tejada for four years. Cedeno has less value as a secondsacker. If I could get the deal done for Patterson, Hill, Cedeno, Guzman, and someone other than Williams I'd feel much better about it.
  20. Wow...for a team already strapped for cash, not a good move.
  21. Well that article didn't provide much info did it. We know Bradley is trade....and that more info will come later.
  22. If we do that deal for Tejada, we still have the money either to sign a lukewarm rigthfielder Encarnacion or sign another pitcher, Weaver or Washburn. I'd make the deal. Lee, Ramirez, Tejada would be a formidable middle of the line-up no matter how you stack them.
