    What teams would look at Byrnes as a starter? If there are none, he'd definitely be a nice option for the bench.

    Yeah, but one member said the thread should be locked b/c of its optimisim and another called it "idiotic". I don't think eitherof those reactions fall within the spirit of this bd. I agree with that sentiment as well, and the poster who suggested it be locked was chastised by the mods as well.

    Williams is likely a starter until Wood returns to the rotation, but I fear he doesn't have a spot there unless Rusch struggles mightily.

    Ok...I might could see trading Walker if it improves the team, but to put him behind Perez and JHJR for playing time is just stupid! You're not really surprised are you? A little surprised...a little dissapointed...a little pissed off. Many feelings on this one.

    The author and his opinion are welcome, but to get upset that others criticized it is ridiculous. Should I not be allowed to post my criticism of the post just because others will also agree with me. And yes, there may be a pessimistic view around here....but some would simply say it is realistic. While I have been seen as one being critical to Dusty and Hendry's offseason moves, I was on the other side of the fence prior to 2005 season. (If the search function was working, I'd show you for proof.) If someone can't handle having their opinion critcized and dissected, I'd suggest not offering it for public consumption.

    Unfortunately, Craig Wilson was tendered a contract by the Pirates as Josh Fogg was their only non-tender. The White Sox non-tendered Willie Harris. The Orioles non-tendered Eric Byrnes. Timo Perez was also non-tendered. I guess the Cardinals don't consider Bo Hart the answer at secondbase, as he was non-tendered as well. A few interesting non-tenders: Junior Spivey IF, Nationals. Miguel Olivo C, Padres. Trever Miller LHP, Devil Rays. Ryan Franklin, RHP, Mariners. Danny Kolb, RHP, Brewers.

    Byrnes wouldn't be bad as a fourth or fifth outfielder. We have some extra payroll, so he'd be a decent option.

    Reyes will be in the rotation. One of two things will happen. Ponson will bomb in spring training (very likely), or Ponson will be good in spring training, and Marquis will be traded for outfield help. You forgot option three- Ponson will be arrested in Spring Training.

    Ponson will be as bad in the Cardinals rotation as Jones will be in the Cubs line-up. Looks like the teams are matching bad move for bad move.

    While we're working on getting a clutch hitter, can we sign some gnomes, fairies, centaurs, elves, and dragons. Because those mythological creatures are as based in reality as clutch hitting.

    And I agree that is what is likely to happen, but since he was tendered, that immediately adds him to the 40-man. He's there until a trade happens. I really don't see a Tejada trade happening, but I could see the extra cash being used to either extend Lee by increasing his contract for this year in exchange for cheaper value in future years... or we could pursue one of the pitchers left on the market like Weaver. I don't see us having the cash to pursue Millwood until Corey is traded.

There will be either one more in the pen (Novoa, Welly, Koronka, Williams at roughly 400 K) or another bat on the bench that would cost maybe 1 million. If we make a trade, we could still add roughly 9 million in salary and maybe more if we traded a salary like Patterson off the roster. So, what's the next move, or is this the team that will take the field on Opening Day against the Reds?

    Seriously, you have to be laughing your butt off right now. You must be loving every minute of this. I know I would if the Cards signed Jones. I don't know that he has room to laugh just yet...is Taguchi, Edmonds, Bigbie really any better than Murton, Pierre, Jones ?

    I don't know why he would. We don't have any more "holes" on this team. (In reality, we do...but Hendry had addressed everything:leadoff, rigthfield, bullpen) I could understand (not necessarily agree) trading Walker to improve somewhere like rightfield, lead-off, centerfield, bullpen...when those weren't filled in other ways. But now, it only makes sense to trade Walker for a legitimate upgrade. Our offense is still the weak part of this team. If Hendry trades Walker, then not only is he stupid, but he'll prove his stubborness takes precedence over creating a good ball club. Walker is better than any secondbaseman we have. He's signed a RF...and traded for a lead-off CF...Walker isn't expensive, so there's no need to dump his salary. Trading Walker "just for the hell of it" makes no sense. I can't see it happening. If it does, it will be a dumber move than locking up Jockcrap Jones to a three year deal.
