  1. I think the reason that Pie is a sticking point is because the Orioles want Prior and Pie. If you read the threads at Orioles Hangout and put together all the pieces, it seems that Hendry wants Bedard back in any deal in which he includes Prior. The Orioles, then in return want Pie along with Prior if they are going to include Bedard, and that leads us to the sticking point. If trading Pie gets Tejada and we also keep Prior, then it's a good deal. But if to make the deal work, we have to offer Prior and Pie, I'm glad that Hendry ins't budging.
  2. Another reminder for everyone to go and vote. Some of the polls have as many as 60 votes cast, but some have as few as 30. Please go and vote yes or no on the candidates. Right now, only Blyleven would be enshrined according to our vote.
  3. An article in today's Denver Post supports Gossage for the HOF.
  4. I wish this would just end already. And I'm sure Tejada would be happy about having to play a new position. If the Phillies get Tejada, maybe we could get them to trade us Rollins. :-k why would we want rollins? Rollins will be 27 yrs old. I think he has the same skill set as Furcal who we pursued pretty heavily. I think he could put up the same numbers as Furcal over the next few years.

  6. If Clement is trash, I hate to see what the opinion of Ponson would be. It would be refuse of a name we can't use on this site.
  7. Why would the Orioles want Barrett when they already have two catchers in Hernandez and Lopez? Also signing over thirty catchers to three year deals is not usually a good idea.
  8. Meh...I have no interest in Koskie whatsoever.
  9. I think Neifi is listed as the starter simply because Walker is believed to be traded. I still believe that if Walker in on the team April 5, he will be the starting secondbaseman...at least against righthanders.
  10. I don't see what Arroyo would provide except an awkward and unbalanced leg kick. He's basically a #5 starter and the Cubs have that with Rusch, Williams, and a potential decline from Maddux. I get the sense that Hendry doesn't believe Rusch or Williams could give him 180 IP with 32 starts. Arroyo probably could. Is what Arroyo would give us worth Hill? I don't think so. If the Mariners will take Ryu or Marmol, fine. Not for Hill.
  11. Would you like me to take over the mantle of spamming Jim's email account?
  12. Could happen, but I don't see it. Perhaps Hendry will have to wait until Spring Training to see if another team suffers a critical 2B injury. I hate to wish injury, but if what if that critical injury is to Neifi. :-k

  14. Update on these: (1) Koskie, Kennedy, Walker still has some life, but the Blue Jays aren't as high on Walker as they were three days ago, and the Angels seem distracted with the potential of signing Jeff Weaver. (2) Seattle does not want to deal Ibanez until mid-season. Boston still wants Reed, but are not willing to trade Clement for him; Seattle does not want Arroyo or Wells for Reed. Seattle is willing to trade Reed to Boston if a third team enters the picture and takes on Arroyo from Boston in return for a CF and pitching prospect. I.e., Seattle wants the Cubs to give them Patterson and Rich Hill with Reed going to Boston and Arroyo coming to the Cubs. That doesn't seem like a good deal for the Cubs. I wonder if Boston would go for a Patterson for Arroyo straight up deal, and then Boston could package Patterson and one of their own pitching prospects for Reed. Since I wouldn't deal Hill for Arroyo, I have no interest in this deal at all.
  15. New update: Hendry was hoping that Pittsburgh would send cash to offset the difference between Walker's $2.5M salary and Wilson's arbitration eligible salary (could be $4.5M). Pittsburgh will not send cash, and Hendry views Wilson as too expensive for a 4th OF role. No deal. The silver lining of all this could be we end up having Walker to start at second base next season.
  16. Shouldn't this discussion be moved to "Baseball Discussions"?
  17. Wed., Jan. 10 to be specific. Ok...well we'll run the polls until Tuesday then. Everyone go over and vote.
  18. Huge stop there by the Longhorns!
  19. "Hook 'em Horns!" (And I won't have to hear anymore "threepeat" BS.)
  20. I just want the best hitter possible at the plate. I'm not concerned with what his numbers in the "clutch" are. I'm not saying that in reality some hitters may or may not be better in certain situations. I'm sure some are and some aren't. But, it is impossible not only to measure but to accurately label most of these players. For the most part, truly great "clutch" hitters are already great hitters. They make pitchers pay for mistakes and they have the ability to hit great anyway. So, when placed in a big situation, they are more than likely to rise to the occasion. On the other hand, mediocre hitters are more likely to be poor to mediocre in such situations.
  21. If you don't believe there's such a thing as a clutch player, you must not watch much sports, and you clearly didn't play many either. I watch a lot of sports and have played plenty in my time and I don't believe there is a "clutch player." The numbers don't bear that out. If being "clutch" is an ability, then "clutch players" would have good numbers in "clutch" situations from year to year or at least numbers that are consistent with their career numbers. They do not.
  22. If we're determined to trade Walker, and it appears we are, then Craig Wilson isn't a bad option. We could do worse.
  23. "Jo-dy, Jo-dy Davis, Catcher without a peer!"
  24. I don't even know how to comment on that. I read that same rumor on the Orioles Hangout last night from a Boston poster who said he had heard it from a friend in the Boston media. I'm betting that's where MLBtraderumors picked it up, but they guy wants it to sound like he has an independent source. There's a lot of flaws in the above deal as I see them. I think Seattle would want more for Reed and Ibanez than just Arroyo, Patterson and a PTBNL. Getting Ibanez and Graffanino for simply Patterson and Arroyo is great for the Cubs. None of those players are making exorbiant salaries, so I don't see why any cash would change hands. Also, adding Graffanino would add another middle infielder and we have too many of those as it is.
  25. Just a reminder that all polls have been posted. Try to head over there and vote for the ten (or fewer) that you think belong in Cooperstown. I think the Hall announces the results next week, so please go and vote and we can see how well our votes stack up to those submitted by the BWAA.
