  1. There's still a lot of time to smooth things over before it really matters.
  2. It appears the Braves, along with regional cable network Turner South, are up for sale. Link Here is a list on prospective buyers. And the price tag? Man, if I just had access to 600 million dollars!
  3. Excellent point. Had the Cubs signed Giles and traded for Castillo to lead off, the line-up would have been strong enough to support Patterson in CF.
  4. Yeah...it's been doing it off and on for me as well.
  5. With that kind of package, the Cubs better be getting somebody like McClung or Banskton back in return. NO WAY is Lugo is worth more then one solid prospect, regardless of what ATL/Bos were alledgely offering. When it comes down to it, TB has to realize which has more value to their organization, 1 (more a 2nd, depending the season Lugo has) draft in the 13-20 range, or say at worst 2 solid prospects. Because if they don't trade Lugo, then they will lost a "bidding partner" in the Cubs, cause I feel Cedeno is going to be VERY GOOD this yr. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/scomp.cgi?I=perezne01:Neifi+Perez&st=int&compage=25&age=25 We could get Cintron---who is slightly better player thru age 25 then Lugo was---prolly for Welly and Perez (the kid we got for Patterson). Lugo is worth what Tampa can get for him. I'm not sold on getting him, but it will definitely take such a package to get the Rays attention.
  6. Thanks Roast. I'm sure Dusty has been told that Walker is being shopped, but I've always been of the impression that Dusty will start him mostly against right handers if he's on the team come Opening Day. I do find it interesting that Hairston was NOT mentioned as being in the mix even though Hendry has continued to say he is. Is it possible that Hairston is still in Dusty's doghouse? :-k
  7. Would you rather have Furcal and Patterson or Cedeno and Jones? If I had control of things, I would have kept Cedeno and made a move to get Castillo. I might have still gotten Pierre as well, but I would have moved on Castillo and then maybe Furcal as well. At that point, I could have gotten Bradley or Wilkerson for CF. Surely we could have made a stronger push for Furcal, but I don't think that was our only better option. Hendry just didn't show enough creativity this offseason. He focused on Pierre and Furcal to the exclusion of other ways of improving the team.
  8. Oh right. I forgot about that. What was the stat line? I can't find it online. :? .337/.396/.511/.907, 11 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 7BB, 12K, 3SB, 1CS, 0 E. (92 AB) I'm not saying one is better than the other, but I was challenging your claim that Cedeno is the more "established" player. Murton has been more successful in more major league at bats. That in itself shows more than Cedeno's AAA stats. Also, it isn't like Murton didn't perform in Iowa; he did. They're both pretty similar in experience right now, but Murton has proven a tad more than Cedeno.
  9. Roast, I know you said Dusty included Walker in the mix. Did you get the feeling based on facial expressions and inflexion in the voice that he said it knowing Hendry is trying to trade Walker but if Walker is on the team would start him or do you think Neifi is the starter and Dusty was just dancing around the question.
  10. In reality, Bagwell did give them a discount. Bagwell's contract was to average 15 million a year. This was the same offseason that Manny got 20 million a year and Rodriguez got 25 million a year. In 2000, Baggy hit 310/424/615 and those numbers aren't much worse than Manny's 351/457/697. It's not inconceivable that Bagwell could have gotten 17.5-18 million per year on the open market. Instead, he signed with Houston at 5/75. Houston just decided to put nearly half that value in the last two years of the deal instead of paying it evenly throughout the contract.
  11. I figured we'd have more questions here. Should I ask more?
  12. I'd rather have Furcal and Patterson than Jones and Neifi for sure. That being said, the Cubs should have made a stronger push for Giles. I know he wanted to stay in SD, but I would have tried to make him an offer he couldn't refuse. Giles was the one player worth overpaying for.
  13. Murton did farily well in the AFL as well.
  14. I doubt the Cubs could match the quality of Marte, but they might try to overwhelm them with quanity. A deal of Welly, Harvey or Dopirak, and Marmol or Marshall might get their interest.
  15. Wow. So, what is the word on where the DJaxx will move if they can't agree to a lease?
  16. I don't see how you can say Cedeno is more established than Murton. Murton played in 51 games with 140 ABs. Cedeno played in 41 games with 80 AB's. Murton's line of 321/386/521 is a bit better than Cedeno's line of 300/356/375. Both players would be fine there, but I don't think it is a supportable statement to say that Cedeno is more established than Murton considering Murton has played in more games and has had more at bats.
  17. The VC only votes every other year now. No VC election this year.
  18. I think Mulder is going to get very, very expensive. That being said, he would be the one I'd target. Being a Cubs fan, I hope he leaves!
  19. Also, I found a very interesting quote by Bagwell here. It doesn't sound like Bagwell will willingly retire. I don't know if there's anyway for the Astros to force him into retirement based on medical evidence either. I'm sure the players association would file a grievance if they did. I'm glad the soap opera will be in Houston this year and not Chicago. Look at Bagwell's thoughts about the trip to see Dr. Andrews. Go for it Baggy. You've got one more season left in you!
  20. If you want to see some Astros fans reactions, read this.
  21. Too bad we couldn't have sent him to Washington last season for Wilkerson.
  22. While it may be en vogue to call Bagwell selfish, he's been deferring part of his salary for years to help the team. He also was underpaid (relative to what guys of his production got) in the first years of his six year deal. I think it isn't the contract this year, but if he retires he loses the guaranteed 7 million buy-out for next season he's due to receive if the Astros decline his 18 million option for 2007. And while it may appear selfish, the man writing his checks who signed him to that deal is a billionaire. He has the money to pay Bagwell and still field a competitive team if he would dip into his personal finances to do so. It could be that Bagwell feels they signed him to the deal and he has the right to maximize its value.
  23. It's a bad decision...but oh well.
  24. link It looks like things could get interesting. The team is forcing him to see Dr. Andrews in the hope that he'll be declared unable to play. The article states the deadline to claim on the insurance is Januray 31. Here's what Baggy had to say
  25. He doesn't get to pick. The Hall picks. The HOF does pick, but they consider the wishes of the player in that decision. In this case, I think the wishes of Sutter will come into play considering there isn't a clear cut way it should go. From what I've heard, Sutter is going in as a Cardinal.
