  1. I was going to bring this up in the game thread yesterday, but never got around to it. If you watch the first couple of innings you can definitely see Marquis getting the grip on the ball (similar to Dempster) prior to putting the ball in the glove on some pitches. The other thing I noticed was the ridiculous increase in velocity over the first couple of innings. I have to assume that the radar gun was wacky, because it was showing Marquis consistently in the mid 90's.
  2. Thanks, he got stuck on a baseball team who's team color is brown this summer. I've tried to convince him to get a different hat, but he is dead set on a brown Cubs hat. The Twins and Yankees hats that I saw were actually pretty decent (for a brown hat).
  3. Has anyone seen a brown on brown fitted Cubs hat? or know where I can get one? My son wants one and I've looked everywhere. So far I've found the Twins, Yankees with brown on brown but no Cubs.
  4. I wonder if we will ever hear what happened between Lou and Murton, for the Cubs to totally write off Murton. Last year the excuse was always that Murton could only play LF and he wasn't going to take time from Soriano. This year there have been two extended periods where the Cubs needed a LF and Murton doesn't get any real opportunity to contribute. Here is to hoping that E Patt and Hoff get off to real fast starts.
  5. According to ESPN 1000 it will be Hoffpauir and EPatt.
  6. I hope they call up Patterson. You can never have enough 2B on the team.
  7. Haha @ most of those guys, especially Tim Redding. Hendry needs to wake up and realize this is 2008. It would be embarrassing if that is the actual list of his targets.
  8. If Hill can just avoid getting totally destroyed in AAA, I got to think he would still be a valuable trading chip at the deadline. Some team will still view him as a top pitching prospect and think they can turn him around. His walk totals this year are very disturbing.
  9. To give the casual fan something to bitch about in 10 years when he is a stud and they find out that we lost out on him. If the Cubs had $5MM+ for Shark, they should be able to come up with enough to sign this guy. Gray seems like a better bet.
  10. He's a late first round talent with a strong commitment to college - No arm injuries like many of the guys the Cubs picked up earlier, though. And upper 90s FB can only be matched by a healthy Carpenter and Cashner while relieving. Sanchez was taken in the 25th round last year. He displayed top-100 talent and wanted first round money. Cubs might have taken him as insurance if something happened in the Vitters negotiation. He was - possibly - the best freshman hitter last year in college and should be a first rounder in 2010. Thanks for the info Raisin. I'm sure I speak for many on the board who appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. :D The scouting report you have on Gray was much better than the other one that I read. If your scouting report is correct, there is no doubt that the Cubs will have to shell out first round money to get him. In regard to Sanchez, if a player enters college does he have to play at least two(or three) years before becoming draft eligible again?
  11. It will require first round money. Very unlikely. but if we cough up a nice 5 mil bonus, then who knows. I don't think it'd take 5 mil. I'd be willing to give 1.5 or 2, though. If they are going to pop a lot of money on a 20s round guy, I'd have rather seen them pony up for Sanchez last year. 1. What am I missing in Sonny Gray's scouting report that makes him worth first round money? The comments sound similar to some of the other earlier Cubs' drafted pitchers. 2. Was Sanchez drafted this year? And how early?
  12. Agreed, this draft has the potential to be a very good draft. Wilken has drafted some very intriguing prospects.
  13. Anybody watching the scouting video's on the players from Mlb.com? You would think they could find impressive footage to post. On Bristow's clip, he looks to have serious control problems, hit a batter and barely tops out at 91.
  14. on MLB.com analysis they say he doesn't have the range to stick at SS. Kind of disappointing as they also point out that he doesn't have much power either. Meh, as they say, power always comes last. I thought the saying was that "you can't teach power."

  16. Consistent 96-98mph fastball is rated as a 60? What does it take to get to 70 or 80?
  17. Seems like Wilkens went with the safe pick again. (and overdrafted)
  18. I guess this means that Fukudome is giong to be available at the game tonight?
  19. Yea I dont understand how Lou constantly talks about overworking Marmol, but yet, continues to do it. Hell last week he talked about not using Marmol anymore for 2 innings, and yet, uses him for 2 innings in a 4 run game. Where is Scott Eyre? Last year when Eyre sucked at the beginning of the year, Lou couldnt use him enough, but so far this year hes getting very very sporadic work. It is simple, Lou is greedy and wants to win every ballgame possible. Personally, I like that in a manager. Lou has been around long enough to know when Wuertz has his good stuff and when he doesn't. Lou's been around Wuertz for a year and a half. I'm pretty sure that the day before they met, Lou couldn't have picked Michael out of a lineup. what a crock. I would hope that a year and a half of managing a guy would be enough time to give a person insight into the abilities of his players.

  21. I believe that just by being a Cub fan, we are entitled to (and should) complain whenever we choose.
  22. Fortunately, One Pitch Howry is back to being Good Howry.
  23. Veal seems to be really turning his season around. What is the projection on Reed? I remember when he was drafted there was hype around his brother and how Mark was a Catcher.... Isn't this his first solid season?
