  1. I hope so.. I mean, the CUBS can close the book on them. But the Brewers cant yet, Im starting to figure out why you guys hate the Cards so much.. Bunch of babies they are. No idea if you are referencing Wednesday night's game or not, but if so... I don't blame Pujols for yelling at Villanueva. That was uncalled for, posturing at the StL bench like that. I don't like the Cards much at all, but still. Don't blame Albert for standing up for his team. It has to do more then just that. I agree IF Villy was yelling at the bench (which I still dont think he was) he was out of line. But all they do is cry about everything. They talked about how they don't like us because we watch our homeruns and we untuck our jerseys. When Braun struck out in the 9th, Molina also started saying somethign when Braun was walking away. I just can't stand them. And we can't stand the Brewers, so it looks like the NL central is one big happy family.
  2. Come on Lt Dangel
  3. Ward is 4 for his last 40 pinch hitting this year? Yikes!
  4. Braves announcers pointing out that O'Neil was talking to Piniella after Harden.
  5. There is no way the nationals win this one. That lineup is pathetic.
  6. Anybody got a clip of the bat flip and look? I watched it again on mlbtv and didn't see it.
  7. I think you have to use the DFA method and expose him to waivers in order to get him to the minors. Eyre will be traded, probably for a PTBNL in the next 10 days. If not, somebody will claim him in the waiver process. Zero chance anyone claims Scott Eyre off waivers. Why? A left-handed pitcher with 2 months left on his deal, and has possibilities of helping a ballclub. There are several bullpen starved teams who would make a claim. There's very little risk in that move for them. Cause he sucks? Not too many teams are going to be looking for a relief pitcher sporting a 1.68 WHIP this year and a 1.80 WHIP last year. Eyre should have been dumped a long time ago. The only reason he was still around was because he was a LHP.
  8. Just saw that Eyre was DFA'd will try to get link.
  9. Where is it being shown? The Youtube generation is slacking http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2008_08_04_milmlb_cinmlb_1 I love Thom's reaction. "Oh look at this!" Ha. Did you notice the "Things are coming apart for the Milwaukee Brewers, and it started with the four game sweet by the Mets, in Milwaukee." As if Jeff Brantley needs more reason to be considered an idiot. That wasn't Brantley The other guy sounded like Milwaukee's old anyalst. Who was he?
  10. I take this year's version. Granted Dempster is pitching better than he has ever pitched in his life, but Z/Harden/Dempster are all pitching like #1's and Lilly has been a solid #3/4 with Marquis pitching respectable.
  11. Cuban would be great, but I have no complaints about the current ownership. They have opened up the purse strings and put together one of the better Cubs teams I have witnessed in my lifetime.
  12. What is the scoop on Mitch Atkins? It seems that he doesn't get mentioned as one of the better prospects in the system, yet he continues to put up above average numbers throughout the minors and he is only 22 yrs old. Is he a projected back of the rotation pitcher?
  13. I think you still have a Dusty hangover.
  14. If Griffey did in fact make a throat slitting gesture after the HR, Selig has to step in and hit Griffey hard. Brantley is correct in saying that if it was the NBA or the NFL there would be zero tolerance.
  15. Its apparent the Brewers are not concerned about Sabathia's future beyond this year.
  16. Marquis has some interesting splits this year. Away from Wrigley he has a very impressive 3.50 ERA and has given up only 46 hits in 54 innings. At Wrigley he has been terrible. Maybe some team will look at those numbers and be convinced that Marquis needs a change of scenery.
  17. Lou deserves major respect for Fontenot's .900+ OPS this year. Fontenot has always been able to mash vs. RHP, and has generally been awful vs. LHP. This year Lou has taken advantage of his splits and it has paid off.
  18. That's right, but it's also not like selling a privately held company. Similar fiduciary obligations/issues apply as in the sale of a public company. The fact that those harmed by acceptance of a lower bid are employees of the Tribune makes it all the less likely. I think a key issue, though, is that it's the Trib that has the fiduciary responsibility, not MLB. If the Trib accepts the highest bid but MLB doesn't approve it the Trib couldn't be held liable. They will have done their part. Sam Zell doesn't appear to be the type of guy that will would go down quietly. He bought the Tribune Co. to make money, and if Cuban is offering the most money, he is going to move heaven and earth to make sure that Cuban is approved.
  19. Dempster has walked 6 in 5 innnigs and only given up 1 run? I would think Lou should just be happy with his luck so far, and not press it any further.
  20. If they believe that he would be the best option at the moment to help the team, it is absolutely the right move. The Cubs shouldn't be concerned about option years and trying to cheap out on a players contract. Their only concern should be getting to the World Series. I'm sure that the Ceda idea has been kicked around and if they feel that Shark is a better option, they need to do it.
  21. We can hope that AZ Phil is at the game and does a blog on it later.
  22. very true I gave most of that fifth round a run through on baseball cube and it's filled with .500 OPS shortstops and 23-year old 5.00 ERA guys in A ball. We gave Samardzija a lot of money, but it doesnt look like it has effected our overall budget and, for a fifth rounder, he's a decent prospect. At this point it looks like, at the very least, we're going to get some decent major league innings from him, how many other 5th round and beyond guys from 2006 can you say that about? Not many, i'd bet. I know it's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but it could be a lot worse. You can't really judge him as a 5th rounder. The Cubs took Colvin, in part, so they could afford Samardzija in the 5th. It's like drafting a guy who wants 1st round money in the 20th and still giving him that money. You can't say they got a steal at 20, and here, they didn't even wait until the very low rounds to risk the pick on him. I don't think your memory is accurate on this. Wasn't that the year that the Cubs didn't have any picks in the 2nd and 3rd round (maybe even 4th), due to FA signings, and had the money left over from those slots to take a gamble on a 5th rd pick. I remember the Cubs stating over and over that they believed that Colvin was the best player available.
  23. I went to my first Cubs game at 7 and sat in the 2nd row behind the Mets dugout. I loved every minute of it and can still remember yelling to Strawberry as he went into the dugout (got him to look up and my mom took his picture). Maybe I'm the exception, but I'm really glad my parents took me to a game that young. But to your point, I have a young son and my parents have wanted to take him to a game since he was 1. We went to our first college football game last fall and he loved it. Then he fell asleep in the 2nd quarter and we left in the 3rd quarter. I don't have a problem with people taking kids to a game and then leaving early if they get bored/tired. If they're over the age of 5 they'll probably remember (or "remember" upon seeing pictures) and it'll be a cool memory. And if they leave early, why do you care? I can't understand why this would be so bothersome. I get annoyed sitting by young kids at certain things, but it's not like I need total peace to watch baseball at a stadium. I'd rather have the annoying 8 year old for a few innings than the guy that swears all the time or talks like he know everything but actually makes everyone around him a little dumber. I never said it bothers me that they do it. They can do whatever they want. I likely won't take my (theoretical, lol) kid to a game until he/she is at least 9 or 10, but if someone wants to take a 5 year old to a game, that's their prerogative. Kids don't annoy or bother me at all (as long as I'm not the one that has to deal with their problems). All I'm saying is I don't understand why they do it. I guess it's a cool memory, but you can have create cool memories for them when they're a little older and actually enjoy the game they're watching, too. I was going to ask if you had kids or not, but that answers it. Wait until you have kids and they continually ask you if they can go to see the game live. From age 5 and on my kids have loved to go to the games. You wouldn't believe how well kids can sit and watch a game, when they want to go. Its also exciting on those rare occassion when they get to interact with the players and take home a souvenier. As a side note though, we usually try to get seats either behind the net or in an area where we don't have to worry as much about line drives or broken bats.
