  1. Chicagosports.com is reporting that the Rockies and Cubs are talking trade also. I think Theriot will be gone before the deadline.
  2. Fixed it. Disappointing that it happened when he appeared to be heating up.
  3. Vitters out for significant time with a broken finger according to Jon Mayo. :(
  4. Maybe he is the prototypical leadoff guy that the Cubs keep claiming to be looking for. Since the ASB, his OBP has been .392 and his 83% sb success rate is not too shabby. Great to see him turning his season around after the very slow start.
  5. Sounds like he had more success tonight than he did last night. That is good to see. It will be interesting to see how the Cubs handle Z if Lilly gets traded. Presumably Z would stay in Iowa for another week or so until he was stretched out to take a rotation spot.
  6. Zambrano throws 1 scoreless inning in his debut with I-Cubs. 2 hits 0k 0bb
  7. Another starter off the market soon. One more good start by Lilly today, and the Cubs should be able sell very high.
  8. What makes you think Hendry's on a short leash? Exactly, if the team's performance this year doesn't get Hendry fired, it is hard to imagine what it would take.
  9. What happened to Wandy this year? I thought he was really figuring it out until I saw his numbers.
  10. .636 OPS is the last 30 days? His OPS in June was .780 and so far in July it is .727. Granted it is not as good as the 1.034 OPS he put up in May or the .965 OPS he put up in April, but I think it would be unrealistic to think that he wasn't going to have a slump all year long. Slump, or hitting as expected? Depends on your perspective. I'm encouraged by the fact that he has been healthy and to date has managed to put together an .845 OPS over the season. Considering his salary and the years the Cubs have him under control, it would be great if July were just a slump.

  12. I'm willing to give him a shot over Theriot at this point.
  13. Uh, no. Hill is marginally better on defense at best, and nowhere near being better enough to justify all the times Soto's been switched out for him during a game. Soto is so much better than Hill offensively, that he would have to be Jake Fox-like at catcher to justify Hill starting over Soto.
  14. Can Hollandsworth please stop talking? :banghead:
  15. :D I like our system quite a bit right now and my rankings tend to change fairly quickly. But, I hate how the Cubs have promoted him after basically having a single hot streak in Peoria and again in Daytona. I have serious questions about his defense and also about his plate discipline. He's got tons of upside and he's still extremely young too, so it's not like I don't think he can change my opinion on him. This being said, I seriously doubt any major publication would have any lower than 4th and most would have in their top 3 most likely. I'm banking on the fact that Vitters always seems to adjust eventually. There is no doubt that the Cubs have been extremely aggressive in promoting him. But just looking at the last two games, the talent is definitely there. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go on a tear and make his AA numbers at least look respectable by the end of the season.
  16. I agree, even if he accepted (which he won't) it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
  17. If Pujols was instrumental in an NL win in 2003, we would have all been thrilled that one of the most hated Cardinals could have helped the Cubs get home field advantage in the World Series.
  18. Whey even make the trade? If that is all Hendry wants, the Mets would be morons not to make that trade. I hope Chris De Luca's just talking out of his arse. Not only will none of these guys help us in the near future, they will most likely never help this team. Unless Lilly has suddenly become a club house cancer, a Lilly trade for only the list of prospects above would be a terrible trade. Something doesn't make sense with those names. Only Carson looks half-way intriguing. But with all of the teams reported to be interested in Lilly, Hendry should easily get better prospects than those guys.
  19. You're not, you're just the one being honest. This is extremely offensive. Just because you didn't understand basic math at a young age doesn't mean nobody did. Basic math is one thing, but I think most kids are happy with the stats that were provided on the back of the baseball card and had better things to do than figure out other statistics.
  20. The latest that's being used by a statistician near you? This is a joke, right? I think he was simply asking if that is a popular statistic. Pretty fair question, considering that your average baseball fan is just learning what OBP is.
  21. After Gooney(jerseycubsfan) am I his biggest fan? 1. Who does he believe will be the first player to be traded from the Cubs? 2. Does he believe that other teams value the pieces the Cubs have to trade (b) what can fans expect back from a trade(s)? 3. How long does he think Hendry's leash is? 4. How long before Rickett's start to take control and make some impact moves?
  22. After reading Hendry's quotes in the paper the last couple of days, I have the feeling that he will be around next year. :( As far as managers go, I don't think it will really matter. Would love to see Torre come though.
  23. I take it that Cashner doesn't qualify for this list because he is in the majors now?
