  1. That would explain why Hendry hasn't pulled the trigger yet. I could see Hendry trading Chirinos, Lee, and J. Jackson in a trade, but I highly doubt he would trade B. Jackson, ARcher or McNutt. trade
  2. What is sad is that Garza would have had the best WHIP of any Cubs starter last year, and he faced the Yankees and Red Sox for about 1/3 of his games. And people are still talking about him like he is a bum or equivalent to Wells. Throw Wells in the NL East and lets see how his numbers fare.
  3. $5 million in 2012 is cheaper than $5 million now. It also would be very advantageous if the team doesn't contend and Pena is traded mid-season.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5900903 For what it is worth, Levine is reporting the Cubs met with TB again tonight and are in the lead of the Garza sweepstakes. Sullivan is reporting that the Cubs are serious about Webb and in the process of reviewing his medical records. I wonder if they would sign both of them. If Webb is healthy, that would make for one heck of a rotation.
  5. I would just keep Gorz before that. Exactly, what would be the point?
  6. Wells had one good year in 2009. Garza's last three seasons he has posted WHIPs of 1.24, 1.26, and 1.25. Also, if you look at Garza's numbers about 1/3 of his starts last year were against the Yankees and the Red Sox.
  7. Levine is reporting the Cubs are close to a two year deal with Pena.
  8. That seems like Sickels views the Cubs system as a deep system. The top 9 all B- or above? With Vitters at 10? I like it.
  9. Why in the world would Hendry offer Hill arbitration? Is anybody in their right mind worried that Hill would go elsewhere? It has been widely reported that Hendry is on a very tight budget, for him to throw away money on Hill is just stupidity.
  10. That sounds like a good deal for the Dodgers. Guess there was no market for him.
  11. I am impressed that we have heard little about the Cubs in regards to free agents so far this year. I realize most of that is do to the fact that he doesn't have much to spend, but in the past it seemed like he would be hell bent on acquiring certain types of players (i.e. relief pitchers, left handed or leadoff hitters etc.) and severely overpay because of his impatience.
  12. I like the idea of signing him to a 1 year deal as long as it is cheap.
  13. If Rothschild was still there, I would be all for getting Harang or Vazquez on a one year deal.
  14. This is surprising considering it was reported earlier in the off season that Rothschild had committed to coming back. :banghead: This team is falling to pieces. Anybody know what happened to Alan Dunn? Is he still with the organization?
  15. Those are our options if the GM says those are our options. He's the guy making the moves and we have to choose from the options he gives himself. No. Those are our options if the GM is a big enough idiot to think he should spend money on mediocre starting pitching and relief instead of fixing the pathetic offense. I don't understand why people insist on using Hendry's horrible decision making patterns as an excuse for him being cornered into making more bad moves. I was just looking at the rankings for the Cubs for starting pitching (9th in the NL), relief (15th in the NL, only the Dbacks were worse) and offense (10th in NL). So basically, Hendry has to substantially improve every aspect of the team and has very little money to do it with. Really the only chance that he has, is to make some trades for players like Davis and hope that he gets incredibly lucky. :( :(
  16. You would have to believe that if the Cubs acquire Davis, that Rudy would have input into the decision.
  17. Absolutely. Soriano is still with the team for a few years, Byrd is signed for another two years, and if the Cubs acquired AGON they could live with Colvin/Fukudome in RF. Sure B Jackson could be good, but I don't think he will be anywhere as good as AGON.
  18. Exactly my point except the subsequent events make it a clear plus (not a wash) for the Cubs unless Byrd and Silva don't produce anything next year. I understand much of the Hendry hate, but he did a great job of correcting his original mistake and needs to get some credit for that. Even if Byrd and Silva don't produce next year it was still a very good trade by Hendry. The Cubs got a pitcher with 100+ innings of 1.27 WHIP ball, and a CF that posted a .775 OPS for the same price as a LF that posted a .641 OPS. It is just too bad that the rest of the team that Hendry assembled sucked.
  19. Kerry is at a point in his career where he probably wants to be on a team that is going to compete next year.
  20. Hendry is just throwing out Johnson's name to attempt to lower Dunn's price.
  21. I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty depressing off season. I liked the Quade hiring, but every other signal that the Ricketts family has given out since owning the Cubs, has been based on saving money. I'm all for spending wisely, but the fact is that the product on the field this year was terrible and if the Cubs want to compete next year, they will likely have to spend some dough on another bat (Dunn, Crawford....) and acquire a front line starter. If they go into next year with acquisitions of players like Nick Johnson, it will be extremely hard to get excited about the team. And to those who say they hope he spends more on development, there have been no signs whatsoever that they are going to follow through on that. I don't recall the amount they spent on the draft this year, but I thought it was nowhere near the top. If that's the case, something has to give.
  22. ESPN insider stated that he hit 100 in the AFL. Nice to see the extra velocity.
  23. Sure they exist, but it seems kind of pointless to rank them anywhere, Strassburg and Prior included. Why not wait until their first season of A ball? I know it's fun, and maybe that's the point, but if one doesn't have confidence in the rankings I don't know what value they have. I think part of the fun is comparing the Nsbber's lists to BA, BP, etc. BA, BP and most other publications include newly drafted prospects, as they are now part of the team's minor league system.
