  1. I saw a report on one website speculating that Pat Listach might be Quade's bench coach. I liked him as a hitting coach. Don't think it would be a bad pick.
  2. Great to see Vitters starting to get hot. Combined with Keith Law's comments mentioned in the prospects thread, there is plenty to be excited about.
  3. I like this move. Sure Quade wasn't the sexiest choice, but I think based on what we've seen from him, he will do a solid job. I wasn't real big on waiting for Girardi or possibly overpaying for a manager this time around.
  4. Isn't he playing football?
  5. I don't want Ryne anywhere near this team, even if it's only as bench coach. I have terrible visions of us bunting in the 1st inning with our #3 hitter. In 144 games last year with the Iowa Cubs, Sandberg had non-pitchers sac bunt 27 times. That's once every 5.33 games. The majority of those 27 bunts came from Chris Robinson, Matt Camp, James Adduci, and Bobby Scales. Darwin Barney had 2 all year. Ty Wright, Marquez Smith, Sam Fuld, and Welington Castillo each had 1. Aren't we blowing things out of proportion a little bit? Yes, but people want to continue to use one example of his managerial career to the fullest. The season stats don't support any of their arguments, but that one example does.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5677332 Nice to see that he thinks highly of Cubs fans. Good for him, I guess, if he needs the money that badly.
  7. I'm not saying they will, but him picking up his option says nothing about the Cubs intentions to have him remain as PC. Hand wringing about "business as usual" or whatever doesn't make any sense and I don't think this lends any credence to any theory that Quade (or Sandberg or whoever else) will be managing next season. It would make absolutely no sense for the Cubs to fire Rothschild. The only manager that would even have enough pull to pick his own staff would be Girardi, and I highly doubt he leaves a team stacked like the Yankees for a mess like the Cubs.
  8. According to mlbtraderumors he will definitely be an A.
  9. Interesting note from yesterday: Sounds like Kurcz had a nice outing, too. I didn't realize that Thomas pitched. Sounds like he has pretty good stuff. Will be interesting to see him progress.
  10. Heard that Z has now changed his mind and will NOT waive his no trade until after the Cubs win the World Series.
  11. Anybody surprised a hitting coach from a bad hitting team would be willing to honor the contract that makes him the highest paid hitting coach in the game? I know, was that really news? Of course he is staying.
  12. Penalties aren't part of the game? Give me a break. The better team won tonight. The Packers obviously lack discipline.
  13. Bruce has a blog post also, that makes it clear that Brenly would love to manage again. Some very interesting comments. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/4699
  14. It was worse than that. McDonald's own scientist wrote a memo stating that it wasn't safe and that any spill could/would result in severe burns. They went the extra step and studied how much they would have to pay out in lawsuits and compared the amount to how much they would save brewing their coffee at insanely hot temps. Not surprisingly, the amount of puni's that the jury awarded was exact to the dollar, the amount that McDonald's themselves figured they would save. They played with fire (in this case hot coffee) and got burnt. Contrary to all of the garbage that gets thrown around in the media and by people that are uniformed, the jury just didn't pull a million dollar figure out of the air.
  15. How does that matter? There are many reasons to be against alcohol in the workplace. I don't see why it is such a big deal for him to be against it. As someone already pointed out, many things are legal, it doesn't make them good to have in the workplace. I don't understand the obsession with having alcohol available immediately after the game? As you pointed out it is legal and the players who are over 21 can go to their favorite establishment and purchase as much beer as they wish outside of the workplace.
  16. He should be benched until the end of the year!!!!! :D
  17. Or unless you watched the game and noticed more movement on his pitches or enjoyed the way he got out of trouble in the first by striking out Rasmus on three straight off-speed pitches. What is frustrating about Shark is that he has all of the tools to be a good/great pitcher he just can't seem to put everything together. I agree that he e wasn't dominating by any means, but he showed enough to have hope that he might turn the corner some day. there were 3 line outs by cardinal hitters and a deep fly out by rasmuswith the bases loaded, and he allowed 11 baserunners in 5.2 innings. that's not good. His stuff looked good and he had more movement than I've ever seen from him. His off-speed pitch was breaking quite a bit at times. I'm not saying he was good, because he wasn't, but there were flashes.

  19. OF Brett Jackson and SP Trey McNutt made the second team. So Archer will be BA's #1 prospect for the Cubs? Would be easy to argue that #1 could be any one of Archer, Jackson, McNutt.
  20. It takes a true veteran to suck for as long and as bad as Silva has. And at least tonight he has proved that he has fully recovered.
  21. Why are the Cubs bringing back Silva at all this year? The only thing he can do is lower any trade value that he may have over the off season. I would prefer that they just shut him down for the year. Any number of young guys they have can suck just as well as he can.
  22. Heard on the radio that he was named PCL manager of the year! Maybe he will go Andre Dawson on us and agree to manage the club for a blank check.
  23. Baseball players can't fight. Was like watching a fight in the NBA. Volstad should be ashamed of himself for being that big and still getting tackled by Morgan.
  24. But he's not fast...........
