  1. Good post. I'm not ready to give up on Hill, Guzman, Ryu or Marmol this early. If I remember right, Maddux himself, had a pretty terrible first year in the majors. With the season going the way it is, there is no reason to not give the young guys a chance to play or pitch out of the pen.
  2. So is Guzman going to be in the rotation or is he the new long man in the bullpen?
  3. Says on the Trib website that Fitzsimmons turned him down and said they were not for sale. :x Who would have thought Ernie Banks would have been a potential suitor for the Cubs? Maybe he is getting as tired of them losing as we are.
  4. I have no idea! To make matters worse Wood is back on the 15 day DL! i thought they said his shoulder was ok now, or at least no structural damage and he'd probably be able to pitch on regular rest?!?!?!? They said there was no damage, but Wood must still feel hurt.
  5. When Wood leaves at the end of the year and signs with another team, will the Cubs get a good compensation pick for next year's draft?
  6. first of all, rusch has NO upside. none. secondly, you're kidding yourself if you think the cubs can get a "decent" prospect for a guy that would be w/o a team if not for the cubs. he's old and he has a 7.29 era. the cubs aren't getting crap for him. Don't forget a multi million dollar contract through next year. The sad thing is that someone will take a flyer on Rusch. If he were DFA'd some team would pick him up and if Hendry tried hard enough he could get something for Rusch.
  7. The Football and Basketball drafts are more closely watched than baseball. Most casual baseball fans don't have a clue about any of the guys the Cubs drafted. All they can rely on is BA or some scout's analysis.
  8. What would it take for Dusty to finally realize that Neifi's good years are gone and that he shouldn't be playing, let alone batting 2nd in any team's lineup? Is there any scenario in which the Cubs would DFA Neifi???
  9. Thanks for brightening our day Bruce! If the Cubs make it to the Playoffs this year, I am all for extending Dusty.
  10. You're complaining about a 1.000 OPS?!?! No, I'm sure that he is more upset about the walk. Tiger, hates it when players try to clog the bases.
  11. You should probably just go to bed now then.
  12. Yeah, it just had Eyre at 97mph. I highly doubt it is accurate.
  13. I kind of doubt it. I'd say he was more in the 96-98 range on his fastball, with the 102 pry being a glitch The strikeout pitch to Puljos was 99, and I thought I heard them say that one to Rolen was 102mph.
  14. Did Aardsma really hit 102 MPH last inning on a pitch to Rolen?!?
  15. I have seen way to many walks taken by the Cubs so far.
  16. Howry blew Marshall's win. :x Dusty had a hand in it. Marshall never should have started this inning to begin with. And although its their job, you're always playing with fire when you needlessly have the Bpers inherit runners. Dusty had more than a hand in this lose. He has managed horribly tonight.
  17. Why did Dusty let Marshall hit, if he was going to pull him after one batter? May have been nice to try for an extra run or two last inning, instead of giving up the free out. #-o
  18. Cards announcers just said the Cubs are pretty bad fundamentally.
  19. Why do people always insist on saying this? Because he was absolutely horrible with the Cubs. Corey's pre-2006 career #'s were Neifi Perez like. Why does that mean he didn't care? Good point, with Corey it was more of an image in the minds of Cubs fans. There are certain fans that saw him in Spring Training and during the season and could have been justified in believing that Corey lacked the motivation necessary to be a good player or that he was a team player. Some of Corey's past coaches and managers have questioned his desire to win and ability to change. Reporters have mentioned the same..... But I agree that if it came down to it there are arguments to be made on either side. Btw I didn't mean to hijack the thread with more Corey arguments.
  20. Why do people always insist on saying this? Because he was absolutely horrible with the Cubs. Corey's pre-2006 career #'s were Neifi Perez like.
  21. If you are going to use Corey as the poster child for horrible coaching and managing, you also need to point out the success stories that the Cubs coaches and managers have had. Just to name a few players who have developed into better players since joining the Cubs in the past few years: Barrett Lee Grudz Dempster Borowski ARam Murton Could it be that some players simply play better in a different atmosphere? Was Dusty responsible for turning Barrett into one of the best offensive catchers in the game today? Was Dusty/Sarge responsible for DLee's incredible increase in power and average? Was Rothschild responsible for taking Dempster and making him into a good closer? I highly doubt that Baker had anything to do with Corey's lack of success. Corey was sucking equally before Baker came and after Baker came. There was a reason that hardly any teams were trying to trade for Corey. I'm glad that he is having success right now and hope that it continues, but to blame the coaching staff for his suckiness is quite a stretch.
  22. ok Seriously, what are you talking about with the title of this thread? it's called trolling. and yes, i'd rather have farnsworth than novoa, flowers, and moore. Why? Farnsworth is paid approx $5M more than Novoa and his career numbers are only slightly better than Novoa's. I agree that this thread is pretty ridiculous, because nobody in their right mind would take Farnsworth over Howry, but Farnsworth is grossly overrated due to his upper 90'S heat. If Moore turns out to be a Major League player the Cubs got the best of that deal.
