  1. He's due $4.15 million next year, and there is a $5.45 million option for 08 with a club buyout for $300k. I just looked up his #'s and he is a similar, if not worse, hitter than Neifi. If Hendry was looking for a good glove at SS who couldn't hit, why not just let Neifi start and save the $4M? What the heck is going on with Jim Hendry?
  2. What does Izturis' contract look like next year?
  3. Careful, that post was chock full of stats and intelligent analysis. You are making it rather difficult for people to have unbalanced opinions towards only the negative. Good lord! Contrasting opinions are welcome on this board. This kind of post that only slams other posters is not. If I (or any other mod) see you do this one more time, you are history on this forum. I've seen too many of this type of post from you and I will not have it any more. Not to nit pick, but could you please apply this standard to both points of view. I've seen far worse in other threads today. :D
  4. :( For a moment I was hopeful that we had a poster with inside information.
  5. C'mon, Hendry! Of course, there was some indication last week that Maddux wasn't eager to return to the Braves. I'll be suprised if he gets much booty. He manages his calories about as effectively as he does the Cubs. hee I think we can safely assume that the "Cubs are willing to keep him" is a line of garbage designed to drive the price up. For once, Hendry is doing the right thing from a PR standpoint and holding on to Maddux until he is certain he recieved the best offer.
  6. Well, that is pretty depressing. A mid level prospect and pick up the rest of his salary? Might as well keep him if that is all he will fetch.
  7. Its not like its that big of a deal. You guys must have forgotten Neifi can play 3B too.
  8. yes... thanks for summing up what I said. With the way this team is built 2007 is not going to be great either. I think they should blow this puppy up at all levels of management and make a real run at 2009. Most of us aren't willing to wait another 3 years. With the payroll the Tribune is supplying the team, there is absolutely no excuse to not be in contention every year.
  9. For $13M, I had better be getting a lot more than a 717 OPS and shoddy defense, but that really doesn't have much to do with this thread. To put it into context, Furcal and his .717 OPS is making just $1M less than Pujols and his 1.145 OPS. Please read bolded part above. BTW I didn't mean to hijack this thread and will refrain from anymore Furcal talk.
  10. I wouldn't bet on it. How many players in the Hendry era have received 5 year contracts (or longer)? He was willing to go five years to get Furcal. Luckily the Dodgers saved us on that one. Furcal would have been a huge upgrade over Cedeno. There is absolutely NO WAY that Furcal is worth the $13M the Dodgers are paying him. The only substantial upside to him versus Cedeno is the additional 20 stolen bases. Plus Furcal has a bad glove. Even with Cedeno's inexperience, he has less errors than Furcal (16 vs. 20). So his ability to get on base frequently is of no value? I would take a .346 OBP out of the SS position any day of the week. Nobody said he was worth the $13M he is getting paid, but he would have been a lot better option over Cedeno. Quite franklyI don't understand why anyone would be so concerned over the payroll, when Hendry had more money to spend this year, he just chose not to spend it. Would you rather have $10-15 M going to the Tribune company's pocketbook or a Major League SS? To me its a no brainer.

  12. Unless you stop to remember that Ronny has a whopping 422 major league at bats to Neifi's 4955. Neifi has been proving for over a decade now how horrible of an offensive player he is. Judging by the last 2-3 years, Ronny is still improving. Furthermore, stories of Neifi's defense are greatly exaggerated. I realize that, but I don't want to wait for Cedeno to get 4955 ABs to realize he is a worse player than Neifi. I truly hope that Cedeno improves greatly over the next 2 months, but there is nothing to suggest that he will. Cedeno has horrible plate discipline and is an all or nothing type hitter (very much like Neifi).
  13. Maybe this Wilkens character knows what he is doing. :D
  14. Because this team is horrible and has no shot at the playoffs, much less a .500 record whatsoever? Because Neifi is nothing more than an overrated piece of trash who doesn't deserve anything resembling the contract Hendry foolishly threw at him? Let Cedeno work through his struggles. If he still is playing horrible at the end of the year, boohoo, play some one with even a vague future in his place like Ryan Theriot instead. Neifi Perez is terrible. He's one of the worst players in the history of the game for crying out loud! I don't care how hot he is or if looking upon his visage cures all known diseases; the man shouldn't be starting over anyone with even a mediocre ceiling. Which makes Cedeno's numbers look even worse. I agree Neifi is not the answer, but the more Cedeno plays the more it is evident that he is not the answer either. At this point, I could care less who Baker plays. The fact is that the Cubs team Hendry assembled is horrible. Hendry has showed an inability to develop any type of serviceable position prospect. He is going to have to make some big deals and have a tremendous offseason to make this team able to compete next year.
  15. That must be the same reason Rusch keeps getting playing time. Oh wait.......
  16. Thanks Nathan, I'll check it out for sure.
  17. Good thing that Baker and the Cubs don't make a snap judgment regarding Rusch and that Rusch isn't stinking up the place so bad they can't help it.
  18. Sounds to me like he is saying that as long as Rich Hill doesn't pull a Glendon Rusch, he will stick in the rotation. What part of Hill's 9.31 ERA this year and 9.13 ERA last year wasn't "stinking it up"? I'm glad Hill is getting another shot, but I agree with Dusty that Hill has got to start showing something. A 9.00+ ERA is beyond terrible.
  19. According to mlbtraderumors.com Their scouts have to be pretty disappointed if they have been going to the games this week in hope of seeing Walker. Oops  , just saw the Rangers thread. Maybe this can be combined with it?
  20. I guess Jacque Jones and ARAM were traded to the Yankees for AROD.
  21. The Mets announcers pointed out the same thing. They said you can tell he didn't care about scoring, and were suprised that the Cubs would put up with it.
  22. Hill's number in AAA this year have been absolutely incredible. Hendry claims that when he was sent down earlier in the year, the Cubs had him working on a new pitch and/or new pitching approach. Hendry also stated that it has been a success. The guy has nothing to prove in AAA, give him a shot to work his way through some of his problems in the majors.
  23. Rusch was warming up in the bullpen during today's game. That tells me that unless Marmol is also injured, they have no plans on Rusch being in the starting rotation.
  24. Article suggest that Hendry was willing to trade Pie, Hill and others for Tejeda.
