  1. That Olney guy on ESPN made the statement "The NL is equivelant of the candaian football league" Same respect and same ability to beat the AL. I am now tending to agree, though I hate to. I am a die hard NL fan. Can someone prove otherwise? I hope this goes beyond one post or a simple "ya, he's right"
  2. Is there a small under-tone here that is suggesting that stealing bases is old fashion and should be eliminated from the vocabulary of managers and leadoff hitter? An exciting part of the game that is just one chess move I hope is never eliminated
  3. Is this sarcastic? Not according to the authority ESPN. It was a wild statement they made yesterday
  4. again cub fans getting over-excited over a guy who has not proven himself long term in a crucial position. Fine 3rd base coach may be important but he has never sat in the seat. Bring him on, he will be a nice relief from Dusty, but until I see the Cubs in the Playoffs he is just a guy with potential , like Kerry Wood
  5. Great assumptions but with the Cubs we are always in a low scoring environment. does Juane get caught because of A. Loss of speed B. Lack of proper timing C. stealing off the wrong catcher D. Jaun is trying his best not to "clog the bases"
  6. Can we quote Brenley (can't believe I am doing this) could it be our timely hitting that is lacking? or how about our timely base running. How about stupid base running.
  7. terrible come back, state reasons why you think that way. NSBB tries to pride itself on not being like the Cub board.
  8. can we trade for him??? saw him in the 80's when he played for Cleveland at Cleveland 90K stadium with 3000 people there.
  9. OK now!!! you know the old rule if you can't say anything nice then........ Man would it be quiet on this board
  10. \ I always wondered how to spell scaramouche. But always love "Fat bottom Girl"
  11. coaching my kids team again this year, if you know of any great, simple websites or videos I can look at it would be appreciated. she is now old enough where rules come into play, so now I got to learn them.
  12. I do believe the other teams have off this weekend. I would like to see a first inning blow out each day so ESPN loses viewers as soon as possible.
  13. 1. In a small sample (one game), being very lucky can make a mediocre performance look very, very good. There were a LOT of balls hit very hard but right at people today. quote] Wow the second half of that sounds like a Baker quote when explaining why he keeps playing Nefiei "because he is hitting the ball hard"
  14. We would not be cubs fans if we didn't do this.
  15. I don't, should have kept him in for another inning or two, let's see what the kid can do. Baker wasn't worried about a proven star why should he have worried about a kid whose biggest highlight will be beating Rocket Roger? It's a plunk in the back he could have taken it. Besides it would have looked too obvious and Roger would have been tossed.
  16. # 2 slot is reserved for Nefei.
  17. Everyone is over-reacting. 120 pitches for Zambrano is not a big deal. 120 pitches for Wood is a big deal. This idea of a fixed pitch count ceiling for all pitchers without regard for the specific pitcher is silly. Every once in a while it is good to push to build endurance, each pitcher should be taken as a completly different creature. Not agreeing with Dusty, but every once in a while you have to give those guys in the pen a rest. I was starting to get dicouraged seeing BP come in every 6th inning. this would suck if Z went to the carribean league after season and pitch. Then I would worry.
  18. coupling this with what he's said in the past about slow walkers clogging the bases, i've decided that basically, if you walk a slow guy with one or two outs, it's pretty much just like getting him out. and enough already with the griping about the young pitchers. hill, gooz, marmol, marshall, mateo and ryu have gone 13-21 (8 games under .500). z, rusch, wood, prior, williams and maddux have gone 26-34 (8 games under). the cubs don't suck because of young starting pitchers. furthermore, the four rookies in the rotation now are 8-13. the four guys they are "replacing" (maddux, rusch, wood, prior) have gone 14-27. i can't believe people buy into this young starting pitching excuse the cubs are selling. good points and good research
  19. In that pitcher mix don't forget Marshal. think he is more likely than Hill or Mateo. another positive possiblility is that we have a plethera of candidates for comeback player of the year. Wood, Prior, Miller , Lee. Let's just hope they are all candidates for comeback player of the year next year.
  20. unless we are the chosen people because the Jews only suffered for 40 years, we are way passed that
  21. as the bell rings informing her that her 15 minute of fame is over, and her parents completly and utterly embarrassed, bob gucione steps in to offer her a pictoral.
  22. explain why? please Tim? the guy looks like the next Kerry, a permanent reservation with the DL. His head is as wild as "Z" but Z at least has now controlled it. He has a great fastball for homerun hitter.
  23. nice photo he will always be a Cub. I wish hi the best and want him in the WS. Unless we make an incredible run
