  1. Do you think Phegley's going to stick at catcher in the pros? He has a great bat, but I've heard he might have to change positions at some point. If you had asked me this question last year I'd have said no, but now i truly believe he can. Tracy has stuck with him there since day one, and this year nobody would even test him. i think his freshman year he realized catcher is where he was going to stick and made the effort to become great at that position. I think scouts have kind've backed off with the same concerns you have, but I have no doubts he can catch at the next level.
  2. Congrats to former Cubs farmhand Tracy Smith as he led his Indiana Hoosiers to the Big Ten championship. The Hoosiers outscored their opponents 47-9 over the four day tournament. They'll be led into the Regional by rhp Eric Arnett who stands to be a late 1st/early 2nd round pick in a couple weeks. Catcher Josh Phegley put up a .349/.464/.656, 17 hr, 65 rbi line for the year and is the best draft eligible player on the team in my opinion. Conference freshman of the year Alex Dickerson went .374/.429/.634, 14 hr, 57 rbi for the year.
  3. Congrats to former Cubs farmhand Tracy Smith as he led his Indiana Hoosiers to the Big Ten championship (up 11-2 in the 7th I think it's safe to declare it). If this score stands the Hoosiers will have outscored their opponents 45-9 over the four day tournament. Didn't think this deserved its own thread so with the conference tournaments being decided and the NCAA's around the corner I figured we can put the discussion here. Edit: Meant to put this in general baseball discussions mods can move where fits though
  4. I hope that's not going to be the pic they us, there's something wrong with his mouthpiece More times than not in the open ice that's how he has it. I think the picture is pretty cool.
  5. http://www.nypost.com/seven/05042009/news/nationalnews/joba_chamberlains_mom_jailed__suspected__167620.htm She looks about what I'd expect her to look like.
  6. "Show the replay buddy.....thank you.....BYOOOM!!!!"
  7. Sanchez has a better work ethic, a better arm, hell he's better than Leinart in about every way. The only way he'll be significantly better is if the first part is true, and history shows that the work ethic of high-profile Southern Cal players is questionable. Leinart started twice as many games at Southern Cal than Sanchez and played better during his starts. I predict this will be another case where the qb struggles when he all of a sudden doesn't have twice as much talent than his opponents.
  8. Mark Sanchez=Matt Leinart v. 2.0
  9. What an unbelievably stupid decision by CSN. At the very least, start the Hawks game on + and make the switch over when the Cubs end.
  10. They let kids who try out for NFL teams to remain eligible?
  11. 76-86 4th in the A.L. Central one game in front of the White Sox. Aviles and DeJesus being the best hitters, Greinke and Meche good on the mound and Soria real good at closer.
  12. Richmond cleared to play Wednesday. http://yourseason.suntimes.com/1468056,030909-richmond-will-play.article
  13. Going to the Big Ten Tourney Friday night and have a few question for anyone who has ever been while it's been held at Conseco. Are good tickets usually available at the door the day of? Do ushers generally let you move around? Is beer sold during the tournament? Thanks for any help.
  14. Correlation does not equal causation. Take the results from medical studies on steroid effectiveness and plug them into physics equations. That's how you get an idea of what kind of effect they have. Your proposal wouldn't prove anything. ARod and Bonds were going to the HoF if they never touched a needle... some other people on that list probably were too. Big names using them doesn't mean anything... it doesn't even mean that's why they became big names. Except that you're dealing with humans and not controlled experiments. My proposal is to compare the expected numbers with the actual numbers put up by those on steroids, just as J.C. Bradbury attempted to do with Arod here: http://www.sabernomics.com/sabernomics/index.php/2009/02/what-impact-did-steroids-have-on-alex-rodriguezs-home-run-performance/ With hundreds of names, and the knowledge of what years they were definitely using steroids, I believe my proposal would go a long way towards proving something.
  15. Release the list so there is enough data to determine what kind of an effect, if any, steroids have on baseball performance.
  16. http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/socalsportsfan/2007/06/22/The_X_Files_Hank_Aaron Even Aaron probably used.
  17. Bad jokes considering the Cubs are older than the Giants.
  18. You're thinking of Crash Davis.
  19. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the Bears have been so bad against the pass. The other part of it is that Harrison (rookie) and Dvoracek (injury) are new additions to the dl and they have been really solid, young players.
  20. I think "drunk" is going overboard in describing Yeatman's situation as I have read that he only blew a .02 that night. That said, since it's his 2nd violation i'm not very optimistic in his return. From all accounts Fauria doesn't seem ready so I guess the offense will only become more predictable using an extra tackle as TE in running situations. Hopefully the Irish can still pull off the win and finish September 3-1 which would be what I was optimistic for. I too will be in Muncie for Ball State's homecoming and can't wait to see this team. Any word on whether Dante will be out of the hospital and if they plan on doing something for him before/during the game? Saturday shapes up to be a pretty good day with drinking starting at 9a.m., BSU game at 12, back to the hotel for ND, then out at some bars to watch the Illini game.
  21. Jason Whitlock thinks it will happen http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8449654?MSNHPHMA (see #2).
  22. They didn't a few years back when I went in Milwaukee. I walked up morning of the Future's Game and was able to get 2 very good tickets.
  23. The one thing I always recommend for visitors to the city is the Chicago River architecture tour. It is a relaxing and enjoyable way to view the city. I believe there are a couple different boat tours running but the one I have been on/recommend is here: http://www.wendellaboats.com/chicago.htm As you can see you catch it on the corner of Michigan and Wacker. As for around Wrigley I don't have much to add aside from definitely go to Murphy's, the food sucks inside, and enjoy the atmosphere. If you enjoy beer (and who doesn't) I definitely recommend The Map Room. It is a short cab ride from Wrigleyville and offers over 200 different beers.
