  1. There is a section in The Book, Playing the Percentages in Baseball that explains how teams would be wise to employ this strategy more often. I agree with the Truffle, it shows why Bobby Cox is one of the best managers in baseball.
  2. http://freakonomics.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/01/bill-james-answers-all-your-baseball-questions/#more-1967
  3. Looks like you're punting steals so maybe Corey Hart or Renteria has more value to someone other than you. Kemp should fill in fine for the time being but i'd drop pierzynski for a Jay Bruce or Lastings Milledge or some other youngster thats a fa. I wouldn't worry about closers you have two very good ones. My advice is to try and deal Renteria and Hart for a starter in the 11-20 range like a Verlander or Harden because Buehrle and Marcum do more harm than good.
  4. Yea, he might very well be the best right fielder in baseball right now.
  5. So if Rob Neyer were running a team and had the choice, he would take Jhonny Peralta over Matt Holiday for the next five years? Some pretty terrible stuff there.
  6. I would say that's bad news for us if that means Manny Parra gets a rotation spot.
  7. Need 1 in a competitive h2h yahoo league. Yahoo id #180812 if interested. Draft in two hours.
  8. Why let sunk costs dictate how you spend your money in the future?
  9. A Dusty Baker team set the record for most back-to-back pitching appearances of all-time? That's shocking!!
  10. Steals and saves will be very hard to come by with that lineup
  11. I've never viewed Aramis as a guy with a throwing problem.
  12. you don't mind him? He's good, "minding him" shouldn't even be an option. I like pretty much everything they've done so far this offseason. Clark and Olsen are both good receivers. I'm fine with Grossman, Orton and a draft pick (2nd, or preferrably, 3rd round or later) taking QB duties. I don't like the talk of possibly 4 QBs, unless the 3rd and 4th are both non Griese. Nothing against Brian, but if you are bringing back Orton and Rex, there's no value in Griese this year. I wish they'd get rid of Archuleta, although I'm still a little unsure about how his contract affects the cap. Do the Bears see some QB that is going to be available in 2009 and are just waiting or do they actually think the same 3 QB's is a good idea? Cleveland is about to give Derek Anderson a 3 year deal for relatively cheap. This most likely means one of him or Brady Quinn will be gone at the end of next season as the deal will allow them to shop him around if they so choose or make him attractive to keep. Hopefully the Bears pursue my ultimate dream of having Brady Quinn in a Bears uniform at the end of next season.
  13. They're horrible. They overrated the players that committed to play in their under armour all-american game to try and give the game some more exposure. Notre Dame's class ranked #10? That tells you all you need to know. He won't. Clausen will be a great one.
  14. I would put money that you will see both Loeffler and Mallett at UCLA.
  15. Where did you hear it? A good coaching hire keeps most of the recruiting class together. I'm just glad he won't be the next HC (if true). :D It's on the Miami message boards from a "very good source", so definitely not the best source of information.
  16. Apparently Dewayne Walker has accepted the d-coordinator position at the University of Miami. This can't be good for that UCLA recruiting class.
  17. Don't worry, apparently Dick Rod had a change of heart on Fred Jackson......I wonder why??
  18. Heck, some players get 6 years. Jon Beutjer got about 9. Luke Recker like 14. Re: WVU: That doesn't even seem legal. No it doesn't but I'm sure some schools football players don't even have textbooks. Or even have to take tests. http://www.osu.edu/images/osu_logo.png I'm surprised that the NCAA doesn't send an employee to a school to look if they are skirting rules in this regard. Have some guy around 22 or so pose as a student and observe what's going on regarding the student athletes. The NCAA put Ball State on probation for doing exactly this. Scholarship athletes were using their book money to get books for non-scholarship athletes. Every school does this but the NCAA has to crack down on a school like Ball State to give the impression that they give a damn about the rules.
  19. Ok I'm going but I've never been before, can someone fill me in on exactly what happens at these things? Will I be able to get autographs, and if so does it have to be on an item that is purchased at the event? I have a replica ND mini helmet that would look great with the Sharks autograph on it and a Felix Pie baseball that I only want Rich Hill to sign.
  20. Everything I've heard of Chow is that he's a great offensive mind but stays far away from the defense. He also apparently has no personality which would make it tough as the head guy and on the recruiting trail especially up against mr. personality at SC. I'm hoping UCLA does better than Chow simply to take some of the California recruits away from the condoms.
  21. And again how would you know that? Eating enough protein, taking in enough bcaa's, and lifting just enough to maintain, a player could reasonably maintain all but roughly 5 pounds of lean muscle over 162 days. If you saw Sammy naked before the season and again after you probably would be able to tell but it'd be impossible to detect when you're seeing him every day with a full baseball uniform on.
  22. Slander is done orally so no. They would have a hard time proving Mitchell was libelous because, as far as i can tell, the majority of what he wrote were other people's statements made to him.
  23. Again, I have no idea what you see that makes it look obvious.
  24. I don't know about that. These people are going from bulked up athlete to extremely bulked up athlete with dramatic changes, not from "casual soccer player" to bulked up person. http://www.j-fam.org/rjjracin/PC1/Sosa_Donruss_RC.JPG Look at Sosa's muscles here, he looks like he already has solid defined muscles. The type of muscles that have been bulked up from at least a year or two of solid weight training. Since about 1995-1996, his body frame exploded. Its not like he went from couch potato to working out 5 days a week around that timeframe. He went from conditioned muscular athlete to humongous bulked up beast. Just my opinion. Anyone who entertains the idea that Sosa didn't use steroids is fooling themselves. The only muscles you can see in that picture are his forearms and his face. How can you determine anything from that?
  25. And poor Larry Bigbie, the best player to come out of Ball State University will now simply be known as a huge snitch.
