  1. Haha. Does that mean we sign Lugo tommorow?
  2. Sign Meche/Lilly. Trade Jones's contract. Sign Drew. I don't think it's that impossible. Who knows, the payroll maybe be bigger than the 115-120 that we've been hearing. if that's it the rotation is horrible at worst and very average at best, definately not a world series champion. I don't think Z, Hill, Meche, Lilly/Westbrook, Prior/Miller with Marshall and Marmol possibly in there too is a horrible pitching staff. as much as i'd like hill to succeed and think he will eventually, it's not a good idea to have him slated in the three spot after the ups and downs he's had. prior/miller can't be counted on exactly and even if you replace an injured prior/miller with marmol or marshall it's not that great. the point being, there is a not so fine line between average and great. 2003 rotation was great, 2006 rotation was below average. i really think the cubs need to sign a schmidt or trade for something close to that to ensure anything pitching wise. Or maybe we will catch a break and the real Mark Prior will show up again. Doubt we're that lucky.
  3. Bruce Miles challenges your statement. paul sullivan challenges bruce miles "The Cubs plan to have Soriano play centerfield and bat lead-off, giving them three players who have hit 35 or more home runs in a season in their starting lineup. With Soriano in the fold, the Cubs will next turn towards acquiring a starting pitcher or two." so who is right btwn the two? I think the fact that Piniella just said on WGN that he plans on using Soriano at one of the corner positions makes Bruce right.
  4. Don't know if it's been brought up yet, but if the Cubs plan on having Soriano play CF, does this make Pie expendable? Does he go in a trade to get a pitcher or another big-time bat?
  5. I have to say that my optimism for the rest of the offseason and next year are probably at an all-time high. It really looks like the Cubs are going for it all next year. My excitement level is through the roof.
  6. Wow. We actually signed a top FA. I don't know what to think about the contract. I guess we'll have to wait and see if it's actually 8 years, $138 million or 5 years, $90 million with 3 option years. If it's 5 years and $90 million I can deal with that. If it's 8 years I'm gonna cry.
  7. This is what I like to see:
  8. Just the usual for Rivas. He's a terrible kicker all around.
  9. Game over.
  10. What a joke. Way to change the game refs.
  11. Lloyd Carr is an idiot. God I hope he retires soon.
  12. I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but I could really see the Boston fans/media crucifying Drew if/when he misses some time with a small injury.
  13. I just scanned nyyfans.com and they're not talking about this. Have to wonder if this is legitimate or just cubs.com type of stuff.
  14. Get it done Hendry. An outfield of Murton, Soriano, and Drew has me salivating. Cubs probably can't afford both Soriano or Drew, but it's fun to dream anyway.
  15. San Jose A's of Freemont? What is going on with California teams?
  16. I actually think the Cubs and Reds match up well as trade partners. They could give us Dunn, and we could give them one of our middle infielders along with young starting/relief pitching. We could also ship them JJ if they wanted an outfielder.
  17. I have to say, I would be extremely upset if the Cubs bid over $50 million for Matsuzaka, especially since Boras says Matsuzaka only wants a 3-year contract so he can hit the market in 3 years and really cash in. It's just insane that the Red Sox bid that much. I have absolutely no problem with the Cubs losing the bid.
  18. I guess we now know why it took so long for the Lions to accept the bid. They were probably out bathing in Cristal all weekend.
  19. I think the biggest thing is we probably could have gotten near-DeRosa production for much cheaper with a combination of Fontenot, Theriot, and Cedeno. Instead, we overpay for DeRosa, leaving less money to spend on actual FA's with worth. It's like a broken record with Hendry.
  20. It all goes to the Lions after Boston and Matsuzaka agree to a contract. The bid was just for the rights to negotiate with Matsuzaka.
  21. So we're probably looking in the range of 3 years (Boras has said many times he only wants a 3 year deal so Matsuzaka can cash in later) worth probably $80 million with the bid money added in. So about $27 million a year for a pitcher? That's just insane.
