  1. Here's to hoping for Pie in as a defesive replacement early.
  2. Far to small a sample size for that stat. I'm not saying ba w/risp is useless but a measly 19 ab's is a bad way too judge. To post on this board is it required to have a borderline insane attachment to one player? What is it about his "19 ABs is a small sample size" argument that you object to? Not so much this one post as more of pointing out that among some of the recent new active posters you know who to count on for a quick argument in favor of Murt, even over Soriano, and who to indict the whole team for poor play... except little Mikey.

  4. Just because he cleared waivers doesn't mean that the Phils will really trade him. What motivation would they have? Why would they want to get worse and make us better when they are actually ahead of us in the standings? :?:
  5. 211 posts in 2 days is that possible??? I thought there were a bunch of hot girls in Helsinki and a solid girl to guy ratio? Not able to find one of those?
  6. Len mentioned that the team was concerned about activating him and being even shorter on the bench, because of Aramis being out for the series. Basically, they think Ward is healthy enough to PH but not play the field at the spacious Coors outfield. I take that to mean that Patterson is going back down when Ward can play or we leave Colorado.
  7. That's an amazing stat They said 32-16 last night during the game... so 32-17 since he played last night. edit: cubcoltpacer and I were thinking the same thing at the same time.
  8. I fully agree. Murton and Pie have got to bring more to the table for the offense than Floyd... its hard not to.
  9. Suuure. :D We should have just killed one of his grandparents like most teams do. Worked for Cordero.
  10. Would he have to pass through all the AL teams first? Or just the ones with a worse record than us? No AL teams at all, just the NL teams with a worse record than the Cubs. Basically we'd have to pray that neither Washington, Colorado, nor the Cardinals claimed him... which doesn't seem too likely... although not impossible, I guess

  12. Wood for closer! Caveat: Wood for closer does not mean that Dempster can be moved to the rotation, he must remain in the bullpen. See Dempster's career numbers as a starter Man his stuff looked good last night.
  13. The front page: The Cubs are back in action tonight at 7:05 p.m. CT when they open a seven-game road trip against the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Rich Hill starts for Chicago, while top prospect Eric Patterson is expected to be recalled to replace an injured Alfonso Soriano. Even Cubs.com is inconsistent. Sorry I don't usually read those blurbs.
  14. Was a decision made? Nothing official yet, no. I still think it will be Pie and the E-Patt blurb was just a snafu. I agree the Cubs.com piece was probably a mistake... as it has already been changed to Pie. Since when has Carrie Muskat been known to be infallible? Actually the front page of Cubs.com still says Eric Patterson. Where? Did you refresh your page? It could be bringing up the old cache'ed page. This is what I read at the bottom of the link regarding Soriano's injury: "The Cubs could call up outfielder Felix Pie from Triple-A Iowa, move Theriot into the leadoff spot, and see if someone can pick up the offensive slack. All of that will likely be decided on the plane ride to Houston..."

  16. What's the alternative? Kerry's warmed up, and Marmol better not come out for another inning. Yea because the rules wouldn't allow it. I don't know why some of you insist that you can just keep pitching Marmol 20-30 pitches every single game with no repercussions. I don't know why some of you insist upon not knowing that once you pinch hit for a pitcher he can't go back out there to pitch more.

  18. Anyone feel like doing pbp... yahoo crapped out again and that's all i can get at work... man i need a radio in here.
  19. Hopefully we can live up to that run differential lead and keep the winning going. It's too bad they don't decide who gets in the playoffs by run differential.
  20. Please make a decent argument as to why what i said is a retorical comment. I hereby withdraw my participation in this thread. This is what happens when I don't sift through the 2 or 3 pages prior to a post that I respond to.
  21. RBI opportunities are rare for Theriot seeing as he mostly just has Sori if he gets on base without hitting a big fly. Even at the top of the order he has plenty of at bats with people on base, even if they are not in scoring position. A stolen base can't score a runner from first like a double can. This is true but I think the point is being missed that for someone who like Theriot has a job description of getting into scoring position for the big guys... his sb's present value. Because they come when he is looking to get into scoring position not when he is trying to drive in runs. Probably a point of semantics though. No, you're absolutely right, Riot has the job of getting on base and into scoring position which he is doing well. He recieves the Eckstein treatment from commentators and it is well justified. You lost me on the Capt. Grit comment. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
