  1. One good thing about this run is, any time the Cubs have been anywhere in the neighborhood, they pull out a win, and when they lose, they make it count. No more heartbreakers, just thrillers and complete suckfests.
  2. That's a good sign, but the 0-3 he has to show for it pisses me off.
  3. I know I'm stepping out on a limb here, but one run does not win this game.
  4. My problem with flashchat is, since I catch pretty much every game on gameday audio, the chat room spoils the AB 2 or 3 pitches early. I can refresh this thread whenever I want, so I have a little more control over when it gets spoiled and when ( sonuva#$%@$#% come ON, Hill) it doesn't.
  5. The gameday audio broadcast returned from break SIX pitches into the inning.
  6. Cubs go down in order. No first inning lead today.
  7. 1 Sep 03 - 13 Oct 03
  8. You'll sit back and watch him sign somewhere else for Roger Clemens money.
  9. Actually, for once, I won't. I have to cover a Davis Little League All-Star game at 11:30. I probably won't get up for the beginning of the Cubs game, (although I might just for the hell of it) but I will be able to watch some of it before heading to the Little League game. EDIT: I had to work anyway but my editor gave me the option of covering either the baseball game or a bike race. That wasn't a hard decision. Good call on the little league game. I'll probably be dragging my lazy arse out of bed in time to catch the early innings of this one, though admittedly possibly not the first.
  10. Man, an EARLY wake up time tomorrow. Hill got a Mulligan for his last outing. Hopefully he'll try something a little more conventional than the old 'spot them five runs in the first' strategy.
  11. CUBS WIN!!!! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ 10 of 11 - Man, I never knew what I was missing out on, with this whole winning thing. I like it. Cubs should keep it up.
  12. I assume so. Scary as that may seem. It won't be a save situation. I'm calling 3 runs for the Cubs in the top of the ninth.
  13. Hey, they've gotta be able to put up a seven-spot somehow - that's as good an idea as any. Then Kevin Mench hits a bunt single and steals home all the way from first.
  14. Pretty hard to get out of your slump, when you havent started in 4 days. Hes a young kid, and is going to have slumps like this, but that doesnt mean he should be relagated to Lous coffee getter. In Lou's defense, the same mentality that's keeping Pie out of the lineup are also keeping Jock and Iz-sucksatbaseball-is out of the lineup. Not really. The mentality that keeps Izturis and Jones on the bench is they are proven failure who offer nothing to the team now or in the future. While Pie is a kid who may have a future if he works through struggles. That would be the mentality of most people. If it were Lou's mentality, neither one of these guys would have started once this year. Lou's mentality is, he gave everyone a chance, and the people who aren't producing are taking some time on the bench. We all know Jones and Izturis are complete failures at all things baseball, Lou just had to see it for himself before benching them. (I'm just glad he got to the benching part.) Lou gave Pie a chance, and Pie has struggled as well. It's the same mentality keeping Pie on the bench. Hopefully that part you said about Pie having a future and working through struggles comes back to the front of Lou's mind and gets Pie another chance where Izturis and Jones won't have one.
  15. Aw man, I can't answer. I was hoping to open the thread and find the question was, "Do you give a crap?" I went to the ballpark last night and stopped after one hot dog.
  16. It's the first time in almost three years that Cubs fans have cared about anything other than how much the Cubs suck. Live it up!!

  18. Zambrano hasn't had any illusions all season about how much he struggled at the start, and his self-criticism is exactly why he proclaimed a new season and why he was so right to do so. He may be a headcase on the field, but he also has something working right too.
  19. Shane Youman. He'll be making his first appearance this season. Here are his numbers in AAA: 4-6, 4.70 ERA, 1.58 WHIP Christ, looks like we need to win to keep pace. Yeah, I think it's more likely we catch SD/LAD than Mil at this point. (SD 1 game ahead of LAD) If you take the Cubs' and Brewers' last ten games each, they combine for exactly one loss in games in which they weren't playing against each other. I don't see either team slowing down. It's very possible that the one who goes 6-1 over this stretch against Wash-Pit will lose a game of ground.
  20. Simply amazing. If Dusty was still the manager, this team would've curled up and died after everything that happened. Yep with Jones in center, Izturis at ss, and Wade Miller going every 5th day. The first two months, with some of the bullpen and starting lineup decisions, Lou was starting to make me wonder. Of course now, he has adopted a keen policy of not starting Jones or Izturis, and he avoids Eyre to a very pleasing extent. Looking back, he was good about giving people playing time but also giving people chances, and now that he has given chances to his liking, he is reacting accordingly and things are working out. Plus, I'm not sure he got due credit for his ejection. The day before, with the Barrett-Z scuffle, the team had pretty much hit the season's lowpoint, and the next day, Lou comes out and takes the attention off the team. Obviously a lot of other things had to go right, but I think that was a pretty effective plug in a rapidly draining tub.
  21. Sorry but overall this season Young deserves it. I guess that means a Padres board has started a Punch Derrek Lee campaign. :?: :?: :?: Let me explain. You see, there was this game between the Cubs and the Padres, and Derrek Lee (he plays for the Cubs) was batting against Chris Young. Mr. Young hit Mr. Lee with a pitch, and Mr. Lee took umbrage with Mr. Young. Mister Young said something not nice to Mr. Lee, and Mr. Lee attempted to punch Mr. Young. At that point, Mr. Young tried to Punch Derrek Lee. Well put, thank you. I think 'umbrage' just became one of my new favorite words. I am aware of that game but what does that have to do with Z and Young in the all-star game. Young deserves it regardless of the fight with DLee. Play on words. The title of the thread, "Punch Zambrano Campaign," is an effort to get him into the ASG, ie. "punching" a ballot to vote for Z. Considering the available names on the ballot, the "Punch Derrek Lee campaign" would mean that, instead of punching a ballot for derrek lee, they would be punching a ballot for a guy who punched derrek lee.
  22. WHERE? They exist? I've never seen one in captivity (marriage)...that would be a rare beast indeed. I've never had any trouble locating said species in the wild, so when I undertake domestication, I'm going to have to brace myself for some serious culture shock.
