  1. I have higher aspirations. We've gone from 8.5 back to 4.5 back in less than 2 weeks. We could have been 3.5 if we simply won 2 out of 3 in Pit. I expect the cubs to be 4 or 5 games above the Brewers by the time the end of September hits. You're gonna be really let down then. Definitely. You're right the Cubs should have been able to take 2 of 3 and get within 3.5, but the Brewers also definitely should have been able to take 2 of 3 against Washington and make it 5.5. They're a solid team that won't be slowing down, and the Cubs have been playing over their heads at a pace that won't last without a couple roster changes more significant that the Soto/Pie move.
  2. Whenever people here see that someone has been DFAd, they wonder whether or not it would be a good idea to go get him. My first reaction is to get jealous that some teams will actually DFA someone.
  3. I don't know how big a deal 600 is. Over the next three years about 125 major leaguers will hit their 500th or 600th home run. Anyway, this is Ken Griffey Jr that we're talking about. And these are the Cubs. Anything that can go wrong, does. I'd give him about three innings before completely shredding his hamstring and being done for the year. ummm, what? There are 18 active players that have 325 or more home runs, so if you assume a 50 hr pace in 3 1/2 seasons, that is the line that im drawing. Of those 18, 15 are over the age of 35. of the 15 who are over the age of 35, 7 are not realistically going to get to 500, in 3 years, or ever (retirement). so of the 11 who aren't too old, or to far away the list of active home run leaders: Bonds - 751 Sosa - 602 Griffey Jr. - 586 F. Thomas - 501 A-Rod - 495 J. Thome - 487 M. Ramirez - 481 G. Sheffield - 476 C. Delgado - 421 C. Jones - 372 A. Jones - 357 and since you can take off Bonds, Sosa, and Griffey Jr. (since we're comparing him), and Thomas (since he obviously wont make it to 600), you're left with 7 players. And of those 7, only 4 are a lock to make it to 500 in the next 3 years). Only a few players (thome, a-rod, and manram) are going to get a good shot at 600 in the next 3 years. And when you factor in only 5 people have gotten to 600, the event will still be special. You said manram.
  4. We'll see if you still feel that way if the game is on the line late and our only pinch hitters left are Hill or Bowen. Weren't they two of the players that kept the rally alive to come back and win the game vs. the Rockies in the 9th inning? I don't know if Bowen's non-double play FC to first qualifies as 'keeping it alive', but yes, Rich Hill certainly kept it alive. He just followed it up by going 0 for his next 20-something.
  5. Still 3-2 Mets, Reds with a runner on 2nd and 1 out top 9.
  6. Yea, I really didn't expect Ichiro to have a vote.
  7. I think that would cement Tiger fans' hatred of the Cubs forever.
  8. Looks like the Yankees are going through some added effort to keep ARod around for a while. Link
  9. Well it's no debate on the relative villainry of Alex Rodriguez. See what just three days with no baseball does? We argue about crap that's ten times more worthless than what we talk about when people are actually playing.
  10. Correct, there's no malice, per se, but there is definitely a blatant disrespect there, and I really hope this gets noticed by league officials. A player doing that to an umpire would result in a suspension for sure (at least, if the ump noticed and made a stink about it), and if there are any rules against general d-baggery, this ump should definitely be held accountable. That's stupid, pointless, rude, and disrespectful.
  11. Exactly. I have no faith in Hendry in any situation...at least if they're buyers, there's a chance he could get lucky like the Ramirez trade or Lee trade. This is why it's good, and it's what I picked, but it's also bad. Not necessarily because I think Hendry will sell low (there are multiple pieces on this team that can't be sold low enough), but because I have faith in his ability to still screw crap up in ways completely unforeseeable. I still have low hopes for this season anyway, so whatever.
  12. zing! Izturis is just sad Izturis is just bad. Izworthless. Iz-unbelievablybadatbaseballandneedstoberemovedfromtherosterASAP-is
  13. Now the Cubs stop the bleeding, score 4 runs in the 9th, and Howry gets credited with another well-deserved win.
  14. I sure am glad that the best reliever was used up yesterday during a blowout.
  15. The Pirates did just take 3 of 4 vs the Brewers, while the Cubs have had success against them so far this season.
  16. Cubs have been winning since DLee hit his last HR, so if he hits another one, that's going to ruin what has been working.
  17. Relax. Barrett was a good hitting catcher and the pitchers had an ERA of over 5 with him as a catcher, while Blanco/Hill saw an ERA of around 2.00. Besides, they have been winning since they traded Barrett. They have been winning in spite of the catchers terrible offense. Thats because defense/pitching is more important for a catcher. You also havent had the bullpen meltdowns, boneheaded throws, and passed balls you had with Barrett. When you think about it, catchers call pitches, can deny runners from moving into scoring position by throwing out runners and plus they guard the most important base on the field. It takes a lot of offense from a catcher to outweigh all of that. I don't have the numbers on how many throws Barrett sent into the outfield, but I know there have already been two in his absence. There has not been anywhere near enough defense from our catchers to make their "offense" acceptable.
  18. Relax. Barrett was a good hitting catcher and the pitchers had an ERA of over 5 with him as a catcher, while Blanco/Hill saw an ERA of around 2.00. Besides, they have been winning since they traded Barrett. They have been winning in spite of the catchers terrible offense. Indeed. There have been plenty of things wrong in spite of the Cubs winning. Without some improvements, it's only a matter of time before they quit playing over their heads and come back down to earth.
  19. Fixed in other words, ward or floyd bats with none on and two out Floyd should PH for Hill, then Z hits for himself, then Bowen and a reliever get double-switched into the game for the bottom of the inning.
  20. Len speculated that he felt wierd/uncomfortable from the wind-up, so he went to the stretch. He pitched a 1-2-3 5th from the stretch. And 6th. Weird, but I'll take it.
  21. Is your sig an actual quote or a joke? It's a joke either way, but did he really say that?
