The guy has just been great. He's done everything they've asked of him and then some....hats off. I'd have no issue with him being an opener, he's earned at least that if not a spot start at some point.

Meh, hope always springs eternal...especially as a Cubs fan. We played damn good ball in April despite losing Steele. May's schedule got soft and we fattened up on it. Now the rotation looks like swiss cheese and June has been crappy. Shota and Boyd and nothing but question marks after them. I'd take a healthy Assad back at this point but haven't heard a peep about him since he reaggravated the oblique injury a couple months ago.

I don't really blame him honestly. Steele, Assad and Shota got hurt and they had to press Rea, Brown and Horton into the rotation. Rest is history. They pitched well for a while but Brown's glaring lack of a 3rd pitch has him back in Iowa, Rea is a bullpen arm that should go back to the bullpen and Horton is green. Tallion imploding at just the wrong time has made matters worse obviously. Not so sure that trading for one vet to try and stabilize the situation will work or not. Sellers market as usual or I think Jed would've already pulled the trigger. Report out today he's trying to pry Lugo away from KC but again, they won't budge until they can get max value, which is the norm.

More than we are willing to pay I'm sure....Shaw/Moises for starters. I've said for a few weeks I like Lugo of KC and we've supposedly been kicking the tires on him recently.

Cubs cost themselves the 2nd game with the PCA brain cramp and Tallion's implosion.. Played well enough in the series to win 3 but will just have to settle for two wins. Great job by Boyd and Shota...top notch hurling. Keller and Palencia got in a little trouble but came out OK in the end. On to Houston.

Yes and no...you are spot on about Javy/KB/Rizzo and he's also made great decisions on bringing in Suzuki and Shota, but ya gotta remember that Schwarber was allowed to walk which has been mostly horrible for us. Yeah, I know it's Ricketts that pulled the levers on that but still at the end of the day Jed was in charge and has to be accountable. He gave up too much for Tucker IMO and now we have a ginormous hole at 3rd base as a result. Tallion signing has been very up and down to say the least and the bullpen has been a merry go round of vets and has beens that hasn't paid off in recent years but has looked better for most of this season. Oh and I almost forgot Dansby....as much as I like the guy (he's a class act) he just hasn't performed well enough to justify his mega deal. At the end of the day Jed has made Tommy Boy a crap ton of dough, and I get the distinct impression the boss likes him. So maybe you're right and he'll survive this season regardless of the outcome. Time will tell, it always does.

Sounds good to me. Most of what ails us is fixable right now, at least I think it is. Time will tell but as another poster pointed out, if we don't win this watered down division this season that's it for Jed: like him or not.

That's a fact. It ain't looking good right now, possible June swoon incoming. If the team is 1/2 as good as most of us hope and think they are, this is just a mini slump and they'll come out of this pronto. Boyd and Shota going next two so....let's go.

PCA's blunder sucked but the kid has been lights out all season so....I give him a pass tonight. Once again the pitching was brutal....Tallion is back to being his half assed self after a really solid April and May. Need Boyd and Shota to stop the bleeding and Jed needs to give this team a jolt by trading for another starter. Shaw is mostly lost and they've mismanaged the third base position horribly. Dansby continues to suck with RISP and he's the top paid dude on the team last I looked. Move him down in the order fer crissakes Craig...it's past time. Bottom line? 7 runs should be more than enough to win. Last 6 games have been a cluster eff on the mound.

You aren't wrong, but that just shows all of us how bad Hoyer has mismanaged the situation. Not even our biggest problem right now, that's the pitching. Can't win trying to get ten runs every night.

Absolutely....been a brutal stretch of pitching the last 6 games or so. Wheels have kinda come off but plenty of time to come out of it. Need a spark obviously and finding a way to win this game tonight would be a helluva start.

Good thread with some really valid points. It'll be interesting to see what they do when Imanaga comes back in a few days. Either Brown or Rea to the pen, but which one? Horton stays in cuz he's looked very good. Only bad part with him is that at some point they'll have to limit his innings which is just another reason they absolutely need to trade for another starter in the next few weeks. Lord only knows who that'll be, pure speculation but then again this is a message board so.....I do like a couple of your suggestions in this thread guys. I can handle it just fine. Just pointing out the facts of how bad this staff has been the last 4 games and he starts falling apart over it. Calling a spade a spade doesn't mean you need to turn in your fan card. It's OK to admit when things aren't kosher.

2 things: seen and been to plenty of games at Wrigley with the wind blowing out but I've never personally witnessed pitching as bad as this weekend....deal with it. Secondly, people come onto sports message boards to vent and make simple observations, not because they 'hate' the team. Sorry your butt hurt that our team sucks the last week or so. Hope life (and the Cubs) get better for you. Buck up buttercup.

That's 30 runs in 26 innings of this series by this gas can of a staff. Can't remember a worse 3 game series by a Cub pitching staff....ever. It's all time record kinda bad no matter what the cheerleaders in the booth are saying right now.

Moreso than anyone I've ever seen in my life. Been watching the Cubs for 40 years and never have seen a guy throw as hard as him and be that ineffective. He has NO out pitch...no secondary breaking stuff that he has any command over. Just a waste of time and energy....and BTW: he calls THAT a moustache? lofl

Well, not Flexen's fault...he came in and did a good job as usual. Sure woulda liked to have seen him at the start of the inning. This is the first game since CC was signed to the mega deal that I'm doubting him. Most anyone could see that Rea was burnt through 5. He gets paid way too much to have that poor of judgement.

I guess Rea coming out for the 6th is a direct result of the pen being overused lately the more I think about it. Makes sense but doesn't mean we have to like it either.
