    With that much salary to take on I'd have to think Abreu won't be too expensive. There will be a number of teams lining up to get him, including the Cardinals. I don't think he'll be available too cheaply. But how many of those teams have the combination of talent and money to afford Abreu and his contract? The Cardinals could starting next if they decline Edmonds option. With that, I agree that he won't come cheap but I don't think he's going to command an outrageous price. Your example of Marshall, Jones, and Harvey could probably do it. THey'll want major league ready pitching and if Marshall continues to excel he would be very valuable.

    I'd take either one. Although, Abreu would probably be more logical since he is the RF and is better defensively than Burrell.

    Why not call the Twins and see if they'd be willing to part with Michael Cuddyer? The guy can't seem to get a real chance to play regularly. He is sporting a .343 OBP and SLG over.600. Granted it's a small sample size but if they are wondering about versatility they guy can plan 1B, 3B, and the OF.

    Well according to Bruce Levine, Jeff Conine is a possibility and he says he would be that power bat we desperately need. While his .304/.374/.403 would be decent I wouldn't exactly call him a power bat. although those were last years numbers and were put up in FLA. He did have just 20 2B and 3HR in 140 at-bats. not exactly the power you'd like to get.

    Tampa has a glut of outfielders, and Gomes doesn't rate above Crawford, Baldelli, Young, or Upton/Cantu(if either is moved there). They know they aren't going to compete, and like Wilson in Pittsburgh they undervalue his abilities in their distribution of his playing time. Gomes himself isn't the point though. Go after a solution for RF, whether that's Gomes, Wilson, or whoever. I think the comparison of Gomes' situation with the Rays to Wilson's situation with the Pirates is quite misplaced (considering he has started pretty much ever game as their 3 or 4 hitter), but I understand your point. Couldn't Gomes just end up as the DH?

    I totally agree with you. When he's on he's got absolutely electric stuff. I'll never forget the Houston game where he threw 15 straight sliders and made them all look like total fools. Williams is solid too. If we trade either, I'd rather it be for someone who has a more involved role than "stop gap for Lee and PHer when he gets back". I'd imagine that's about the max you'd get for either of them. We have a lot of pitchers who are right around their level, I don't object to dealing one to fill a glaring hole for 2 months. It sucks to lose Lee, but acquiring Clark or the like is only going to be a marginal upgrade over Hairston. Unless you're getting a defensive whiz too like a Mientkiewicz, the difference over only 2 months isn't worth giving up players of Wuertz's or Williams's caliber. Tony Clark is a very good first baseman defensively. Davenport Translations from BP have him right at average for his career. Do those stats take into account just range at 1B or do they also include throws from 3B, SS, and 2B?

    I'd definitely trade Wuertz for him. at the very least you'll get some decent production from him until DLee gets back and could either be trade fodder at the deadline or could really help spell Lee if he needs to rest his wrist. but Walker's production has been great to see.

    He's a switch-hitter. he'd be a nice option off the bench once DLee came back if he could play more than 1B.

    If he would take Neifi's place on the roster it'd be fine but other than that he is similar to Walker in the power category but other than that he isn't as good of a hitter. If Williamson is the guy to be traded I'd rather he be used to bring a guy like Wilson or Clark in.

    I think a somewhat good sign is that we managed to walk 15 times in the series. 6 on Mon, 3 Tues, and 6 today. If we aren't going to get a lot of hits the least the lineup can do is produce some walks.

    I like Tony Clark if available. 1M in salary and is currently a bench player who, if he performs anywhere near last year, could really help take over some of the lost production.

    Has it been noticed that mulder has been terrible against LH this year? Small sample size but hopefully it continues.

    Well, at least Pagan can play all 3 outfield positions. Isn't Pagan also a switch-hitter as well?

    I know I'm at peace with his retirement. This should allow Theriot to take his spot. So our bench is Mabry, Perez, pagan, Blanco, and potentially Theriot?

    Dusty appears to love him as well! In Bruce's article today Dusty had tons of love for Marshall. That isn't going to hurt his chances. But I have a feeling they'll want him developing for another year.

    Seconded. I've actually shown it to several co-workers. Or photos posted could actually be related to baseball, instead of sex. Sex? Get your mind out of the gutter. I'm just supporting the local hoops team. All women should be required to learn how to support like that!

    yeah I should "hope" more often. this should help his stock some. bruce, any idea as to which way the Cubs are leaning for the 3 rotation spots? I imagine Rusch will get one of them.

    Somebody has to want to be in this rotation. Right now it's Zambrano, Maddux and nobody is stepping up. Angel usually has better control. How many innings has Guzman thrown this Spring? Seems like not a lot. He was pretty wild in the AFL at first as well. But once he got some innings in under his belt he turned it around. Hopefully he can pull a J. Williams and throw some shut-out ball for the remainder of the game.

    From what I've read it'll help increase it just a bit because Arroyo was headed to the bullpen to open the season in BOS. While he is moving from AL to NL he is moving into the hitter-friendly GAB.

    That's what I was wondering. If I recall wasn't that a big part of the reason he signed such a reasonable contract? I think in the end the Red Sox will see the bigger benefits of this trade. Pena definitely has some big potential, unfortunately he is going into another situation where there isn't guaranteed playing time. It does appear as though Freel's in line for some additional playing time.
