  1. The NL bases attendance off of ticket sales rather than actual turnstiles as the AL does.
  2. The FA market for a 3B isn't exactly brimming with impact players after the season. Unless Hendry has a deal in place for another 3B, ARod please!, trading ARam isn't going to help this team for next year.
  3. What scares me is that MacPhail would probably consider Jim Bowden.
  4. I'd hold onto the core in either scenario. The problem is the core is extremely small. Or maybe that's a blessing since it allows you to trade just about everybody. What is that core? Z, ARam, Cedeno, Lee, Barrett?
  5. .420 OBP is troubling? .350 and .327 the previous two years. So is the order, in chronological, .327, .350, .420? If that's the case, he's improving quite a bit each year.
  6. I was thinking the same thing. If they feel this guy can move up through the minors fairly quickly then I could definitely see Pie being bait this summer to bring in a big-time upgrade. Jones could be used as the stopgap CF for a few years until this kid is ready.
  7. Were the minor league umps striking until recently? I seem to recall that and wondering if maybe Pie's been getting squeezed a lot lately and his plate discipline has actually been better then the results. Pie's splits are still odd to me. He is hammering Lefties this year and hitting so-so against righties.
  8. I can't remember the name off the top of my head, but they had a baby boy sometime in the weeks after the convention. I believe they named him Justin. I only remember that since it's my name.
  9. it was said on another Cubs blog that the last time it was so widely known that MacPhail was traveling with the team Baylor got fired.
  10. Oh please. Juan Pierre, Todd Walker, Jerry Hairston, John Mabry, the entire bench, Glendon Rusch and Greg Maddux have all been just as bad, if not worst, than any of the kids. Collectively this entire team has been horrible. Pin-pointing the kids is close to Baker-esque exuse-mongering.
  11. I'd really prefer something more specific: Dusty Sucks Hendry Sucks Trib Sucks Neifi Sucks Jacque Jones Sucks Against Lefties Rusch is Fat etc. To me the Cubs as an entity suck so a shirt that says "Cubs Suck" is specific for me. But to your point I suppose everyone could just make their own and if they want to call out a specific sub-part of the group that's perfectically acceptable.
  12. What about having everyone wear "Cubs Suck" shirts?
  13. I think the protest is AT Wrigley, not IN Wrigley.
  14. Any news on Miller, Lee? I wonder just how far Hendry will let the losing skid go before Dusty loses his chance. Sure seems like he really wants to give Dusty that extension.
  15. I say Restovich gets DFA'd. Dusty refuses to play him and Bynum has that speed factor going for him. Because we all know (let's say the mantra together) "SPEED NEVER SLUMPS" But doesn't the "speed" have to play in order not to slump. I was being sarcastic. Since Dusty and Hendry are absolutely obsessed with speed this season I just felt that Bynum would stick because he is fast. Not that I agree with that decision.
  16. It's too bad he can only play 1st. If he were able to play another position this would be even better as his offensive upside is high. But if he were to put up some big numbers for the CUbs he would have some significant trade value for us to upgrade another position.
  17. Maybe he can eat some dirty hot dogs off the floor that someone dumped over. Perez and Cedeno in the 2-3 spots is about as bad as it has ever been. Murton hitting 7th should be an automatic suspension and/or firing. Instead of sitting Walker/Jones against all of those left-handers that neither one can hit he waits until we play against 6 righties in a row to sit them. DOes good defense mean you get to pick whatever spot you want in the lineup on a Dusty team?
  18. FYI, that was an 8 game slide. And the Cubs went from 3 games out to 6.5. And it was 10 of 11. They were 2 games back before then. Yes, they are still within striking distance and nobody has run off with the division yet. But that was some serious damage. There are now 8 teams ahead of them for the wild card. The Cubs have relied too long on the "it's early" claim. Last year they lost 8 straight early, and did it again 2 more times. There's no reason to give up, but I think it's important to remember that these losses all count and hurt. They can't just expect things to get better, they have to proactively make things better. I agree that they do need to make some changes. But a few guys that are vital to the teams success haven't been hitting to their career norms nor pitching either. I am mostly looking at Pierre/aram/Zambrano and to an extent Jones. We are seeing some signs of life, especially from Zambrano. I'm not making excuses and not saying they shouldn't find some help but to me this 8 game skid doesn't happen of some of the players were playing to their norms.
  19. I always thought they said Prior had "flawless" mechanics. After reading Goony's analysis last week, I truly think Dusty damaged him. I agree with what Goony's post. Dusty definitely had a huge hand in those injuries. But I've heard a lot more in the past year about how Prior was bringing his elbow too far up thus causing some undue stress on his elbow and shoulder. I can't site anything specific but just going on memory. either way, if there is something to be changed I just was wondering outloud if maybe that's part of the reason Prior is being brought back, what seems like, so much slower than in the past.
  20. perhaps the reason Prior is taking more time is because he is also working on changing his mechanics as well. Just a though. I know both Wood and Prior have some injuries they are coming back from but with all of these low pitch throwing sessions the Cubs seem to be taking a lot longer to bring back both pitchers than in previoius years. At the very least I hope this change in Wood's mechanics help keep him healthy all season long and he comes back dominant.
  21. I believe Ryan Doumit has been learning to play 1B recently.
  22. Maybe Hendry is trying to work out the details of the trade so he can figure out if which of Restovich/Bynum to DFA. If the Pirates take Bynum perhaps they'll just DFA him tonight because wouldn't the Cubs have 10 days to try to trade Bynum?
  23. I say Restovich gets DFA'd. Dusty refuses to play him and Bynum has that speed factor going for him.
  24. I have agree. I was food poisoned by chicken about 5 years ago and it is still the most brutal "illness" i have ever dealt with. I'd rather have the flu. I couldn't stand without being extremely nauceous for 3 days. Eating doesn't happen and drinking water is painful. At the same time the reports from Steve STone saying Prior had discomfort and was going to be delayed at least 2 more weeks makes me wonder if this is another coverup of some type. I hope it isn't but I can't help but be suspicious of anything the Cubs pass onto the media regarding injuries.
  25. I am fine dealing Marshall if it's for some real help. We can't afford to send him in a deal for a Clement/Alfonseca type deal.
