    I would do that in a heartbeat but I wouldn't give up Pie as part of the deal. Also, I would only do the deal if we got Jackson or Quentin.

    I know that much isn't right. (plus I would put him in the top 10) Ha, good catch! Corrected now for da man's REAL name. :oops: I had a hard time rating him since he's so new to the Cubs system...and he's so far down the system. I thought the 11 spot was generous. After all, he's above Pinto, among others. Pinto has had outstanding double A numbers, where as Pawelek just cracked Boise. You're right though that he has great potential. Who would you replace in the top ten? The thing is, he has by far the highest potential out of any of the prospects in the system (of players not named Guzman). Despite the fact that he is low in the system, he pretty much dominated rookie ball (outside of the wildness) and has really good stuff. I'm not sure who I would replace but I would probably put him in the 6-8 range.

    Wow, that would be an interesting move. Would be funny if he signed with the 15th sloted team so we got the worst possible draft pick.

    We better nail that 1st pick, because with the cash the Cubs have to spend this offseason, they may not be picking for a while after that 1st choice. Just like we were supposed to be a great team the last two years? I really have no faith in this organization anymore.

    If innings were 2 outs he would be money! Hopefully he has a good showing in the AFL. Agreed. I like his future and all but I don't think he belongs in the top 15-20 area.

    If he was a starter I would say yes but an inconsistant reliever isn't worthy of a top 15 slot in a deep system like the one the Cubs have.

    Hopefully that proactive approach involves signing BJ Ryan. I don't think there's as much of a need for BJ Ryan now that Dempster has been signed, presumably to close. BJ isn't going to come here to set up games, and even if he did he's not going to be cheap. Having said that, if BJ wanted to come here for about the same money as Dempster got specifically to set up, then yeah, sure, awesome. But I see a Boston or NYM paying his a premium to close. I would be fine with having him close and Demp pitch in the 8th. Me too, in theory, but Hendry and Baker are loyal guys, and Dempster has done nothing to lose his closer's spot. I have to say, I was dead set against having him close. I thought his walk rates were too high and he'd be really ineffective and inconsistent, but he's been really, really good in the 9th. Why mess with that? I always wanted him to be closer but I see nothing wrong with getting one of the best ones in the business and having Dempster pitch in the 8th. I realize it isn't going to happen but it would be nice to have a bullpen with BJ in it, no matter where he pitches.

    Baseball has never used defensive stats to determine Gold Glove. They rely more on offensive production, which makes little to no sense. I think your overstating that a bit. They do consider offensive production but if you look at Matheny and Ausmus at C or Lee (pre-this year) your theory doesn't hold water. How does one explain Rafael Palmeiro. Palmeiro played 28 games at 1b the year he won a GG. 28 games isn't even 1/5 of a season. It's the equivilent of 1 month of play out of the whole baseball year. Offensive production should have zero impact on a defensive award. Period. Did Palmerio hit 40 hrs in 28 games? How did his offense that year figure into the award? Surely some 1B had to have better offensive numbers that year. Note the bolded part. He played more than 28 games in that season but they weren't at 1st base.

    That's cause the league doesn't know him yet. Once the league knows him, he will be lucky to get a double. You're kidding, right? Dustyism.
