  1. You've got to be kidding me. Z gets an 0-2 count and hits him with an underhand softball toss. Then Kendall makes a perfect throw and has his first legit CS (on a legit base stealer no less) and Riot can't catch the ball.
  2. LOL, I love how cocky Jacque looks after hitting his 4th HR of the year. Although he really did crush that ball.
  3. Who says Adam Dunn would get us to the World Series? Exactly. I did the same thing you did earlier in the thread. By the way if you actually read what I said you would have seen the word "possibly". The point is they're both cheap, young players with good track records who we will have under our control for the next 4+ years. At worst you're probably talking about league average options in positions of need at a very low cost. When Dunn doesn't get us to the playoffs in his 2 month stay and we're left signing Darin Erstad and Kyle Lohse to replace those guys next year, it will cost more money and be a downgrade in talent. At which time you and others will complain about how bad this team sucks and wish we still had Felix and Rich. You have to get to the playoffs to get the World Series. This is the problem with the Cubs; they're afraid to get rid of any pitcher now because one guy was great for one or two seasons (Dontrelle Willis). Looks like the ol' D-Train got figured out, didn't he? Man, Dontrelle is awesome now, isn't he? And it certainly looks like one-pitch Rich got figured out pretty quickly too. EXACTLY! And if you want to make the playoffs in any future years you don't give in to the Reds insane demands for Dunn. Why don't you understand that? I have no idea who your rant about Willis was directed at. Apparently the only start of Hill's since the All-Star break that you've seen was his last one against a very good lineup in a hitter's park.
  4. It was the end when Hendry did nothing at the deadline. Don't think he had the resources to Dang out Pie and see what you get. I know I'm going to get killed for this, but this is his last year probably here. Go for the throat while you have a decent time. Do what the Braves did. I think he meant the $$$ to pay the incoming players. I don't buy that for a minute. Why? They would have added payroll. He had to get expiring contracts. Go get Dunn. He opts out after the year and the club isn't stuck paying for him. Makes too much sense. Who says Dunn was available to the Cubs at a reasonable price? Do you just wnat to throw whatever they ask at the Reds just to get the deal done? Do you think the Cubs are one Adam Dunn away from winning the World Series? If so, would the investment be a huge waste of our future if Dunn somehow doesn't lead the team to a world series win and walks after the season? Would you rather go down swinging or not? We are tied up in bad contracts for the next 2-3 years and we hypothetically have a lock on the checkbook for at least the next season with the impending sale. The only hope we have to improve after this season are our minor leaguers and trading those minor leaguers. Yes we could trade for Dunn (IF HES AVAILABLE TO THE CUBS), but who is going to be the scapegoat when Dunn leaves after the season and you have to start Angel Pagan in the OF next year because you traded Felix Pie, Jake Fox, Sean Marshall, Carlos Marmol, and whatever other crazy stuff the Reds will ask for to trade Dunn to a Central team. Then what will you be saying? Oh well at least the Cubs traded for Dunn and we won 87 games and got swept by the Mets in the NLDS. I doubt it And we'll just keep enjoying not going to the playoffs. That's the entire point. In the current situation we have a better chance of being a contender by keeping Pie, Hill and Marmol around for the next 4+ years than just getting Dunn for a two-month rental. That doesn't mean those guys are untouchable. It just doesn't make sense to sell the future all for a 2-month rental who will downgrade other areas of the team and hurt us significantly in the future.

  6. Wow, Z cannot miss a bat tonight. No command.

If the Reds weren't making insane demands for Dunn (and everyone on their roster), someone would have gotten it done or you would at least have heard far more speculation. 2. When Hill and Pie are both cheap and successful with the Reds (possibly All-Stars) and we're stuck trying to get mediocre, more expensive veterans to replace them, you and most others would have complained to no end.
  8. Even in cases when it could be helpful, instincts usually get in the way. The one instance I've seen happen multiple times is where the batter is trying to sac bunt, pops it up and doesn't get out of the box. The fielder can let it drop, throw to second (because the runner is frozen) and then go back to first for the double play. The Cubs could have done it this weekend when a Rockies pitcher popped a bunt up to Lee and stayed in the box. It would have been an easy double play for Lee, but when you have less than a second to react and your instincts tell you to just catch the ball. Plus you're taking on added risk of an error.
  9. That's the best lineup possible. Only complaint is having Jacque up in the 2-hole, but his .395/.452/.579 line in that spot will probably keep him there for a while. Hopefully Daryle can be at least adequate in RF.
  10. Sounds like it: http://www.dailysouthtown.com/sports/509011,141SPT5.article Piggy can probably help this team out more right now than Gallagher can. I'm certain Sean will be back up in about two weeks anyway.
  11. if the worst case scenario has him putting up a .786 ops during a slump, where do i sign up? Combined with being one of the worst regular OF's in the game? I guess I have higher standards for $14M. I'm not saying I wouldn't want him under any circumstances and he is a pretty good bet to get you around an .850 OPS. However there are things that make me hesitant and I would want them to eat some of that money. If not, I'd rather go with Murton (and Jones if necessary) and allocate that $10-$13M to Z and a possible shot at A-Rod. again, defense is not our problem, our problem is OPS. burrell provides that. i'd take him in a second. You're right, defense isn't our problem. But awful defense changes a player's worth. I think there's a very reasonable chance that we can come up with an in-house option(s) that provides an .800 OPS for a low cost. Is Burrell going to be able to produce enough offensively to make up that $10-$13M AND the defensive drop off?
  12. Exactly. I expected a split here, it was the disaster in Houston that killed us. Felix is pulling off everything right now. Well at least Ward put a charge into that ball, it will be nice having him back again. Yep we need a little more wtp. Ward has been very good this year for his role. Besides that's harder than Lee has hit a ball in a couple of weeks.

  14. Lee needs a day off or two. Yep. Let Ward play 1st on Tuesday when Aramis is back to give Lee two days off in a row.
  15. Atta boy Sean, give us one more scoreless inning. Amazingly Mark McLemore just got Hart-Braun-Fielder 1-2-3 in the 8th. Prince was ejected.
  16. i don't know why but the 5th inning is usually time to get nervous, and it sucks Because when you don't have great stuff or command the third time through the order is usually when it catches up to you.
  17. Dear Lord he murdered that ball. Thankfully Jacque is flashing some leather to make that a solo shot.
  18. Not this time around. You're right.... It will probably be Hardy today.
  19. Now that the Astros have tied the game up, the only question is who will be the Brewers hero today? Braun and Hart would be the favorites, but I'm guessing that Weeks gets in on the action today.

  21. Wow, quick hook. They were just hoping he could get them through the order once or twice without too much damage before we figured him out.
