The ball came right at his back and was coming at about 62 mph tops. There's no reason he should move. except for the umpire isn't supposed to award a batter the base if he makes no effort to avoid the pitch. What are you talking about? He turned away from the pitch and it hit him square in the back. To avoid it he would have had to have jumped on the plate.
For God sakes Rich get something below waist level. We're lucky they're fouling off some of these pitches and not driving them. Estrada's sac fly was over the heart of the plate, waist high. It would be nice if he could work through one of these and have a decent day.
Thats why I said the best spot would be 6th with Derosa behind him The last thing I saw was that you said he should hit 7th with Bowen behind him. Regardless it's not the job of Lou and the rest of the team to completely cater to Felix. They're trying to win games and it doesn't make the most sense to put a 2-35 in front of a guy who is raking and likely will hit better for the rest of the year. Work with him on the things he has to improve and give him regular playing time. That's their only obligation.
I would rather him hit 7th also but I really don't think it's as big of a difference as you're making it out to be. It's not like teams are scared of Rob Bowen coming up with men on base. Whether he bats 7th or 8th he's going to see a lot of junk and they're going to try to get him to expand his zone. The difference in the way they'll pitch him in those spots is negligible in my opinion.
Why? I'm happy the Pistons got some nice youth and depth in the backcourt. They loved Stuckey and nearly every mock had the Pistons taking him if he was available. Really liked the Afflalo pick at 27. He's got a little bit of Rip in his game. I'm even more happy that I now have a reason to really hate the Bulls again. I hated it when they just had a nice young, likeable team with a core of good college players. There was no one to really dislike on that team. Pax fixed that last night. I know I wouldn't be able to watch his act all year. When Gordon hits a big 3 this year and the other team calls a timeout, Noah will run out to the center circle and start pounding his chest and screaming (even though he likely did nothing) while everybody else congratulates Ben. He was one of the most overrated, overhyped college players in years simply because of his parents and the fact that he'll do anything to get attention. From a basketball perspective, he just seems a little redundant on that roster.
Of course there are, but they must see him as a fit for their system and to fill the role they're looking for. Ford didn't seem to think it was a terrible pick. TT I agree that they didn't have to draft him at that spot to get someone with a skillset like his, but they must have not wanted to take the risk of letting someone grab him late or sign him first. He's a safe pick with incredible makeup. I think you're underrating his athleticism and defensive ability. His all-around game developed so much this year when he wasn't stuck playing 3rd fiddle (which he shouldn't have the previous 2 years). He did shoot 43% from 3 and average over 21 a game in the Big Ten.
Where's that ignore switch at again? I think that will go in effect for one month. Come on, Adam can be a servicable NBA role player. Not tons of upside, but he can stick around for a while with the right fit. He's much more athletic than he gets credit for (whiteness will do that), has a good pull-up game with a streaky outside shot and plays solid defense. He also knows how to flop and get himself to the line where he's deadly. He's off the charts for any teams looking at character/intangiables and will play any role asked of him, which is important when you're talking about a guy on the end of the bench. He's a max effort guy but can play under control and if there's anything left to develop, he'll get it out.
Petrick looked like he hadn't taken a breath since coming into the game. Lee thumped him in the chest with his glove on the way off the field and he flinched like he was getting hit. Good work.
Lou says he doesn't like to bring up young guys and have them sit because they lose their sharpness. Wants to get Petrick some work, but also wants Z to get deep today. Z told Lou the other night that he could go in if needed. Thankfully, Lou declined. He said Pie is just struggling with the bat and he doesn't want to just keep running him out there if he's struggling and have him lose confidence. He just wants him to take a little time and work it out with Gerald.
So what's Hendry's next step? Does he have to include a decent prospect to go along with Jacque so he doesn't have to eat so much salary? Take on an undesirable contract from someone else?
Brilliant knee-jerk reaction. He's been great the last 3 years. He was dominant in his last 12 outings and all of June: 14 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 K, .71 WHIP, .64 ERA. He had one bad night pitching on his 3rd consecutive day.
Honestly I don't blame Lou all that much. He was in a no-win situation in my opinion. We have a 5-man bullpen. Marquis couldn't get through 6. All he had left entering the 9th was Ohman, Howry and Marmol who had all gone an inning the previous two days. It was a 5-run lead and he wanted to avoid going to one of those guys for the 3rd straight day. Eyre had only thrown 21 pitches. He brought Howry in with only the tying run on deck, so it wasn't like he had to be completely perfect. I try to avoid completely criticizing a manager in this kind of situation, because we have no idea who is sore or has told Lou/Larry that they don't think they can go on the 3rd straight day.
I hope someone wwas able to record the radio call. Ron had to have had a coronary multiple times. Absolutely incredible. From the most sickening loss of the year to one of the best wins in recent memory.
