It's easy to assert things. It's harder to prove them. Soriano's OPS+ over the past three years (05,06,07): 109, 135, 123 Murton's OPS+ over the past three years (05,06,07): 132, 104, 100 So a difference of 10 points a year on average in a stat that ignores Murton's strength over Soriano (OBP) and overvalues one of Soriano's strengths (SLG)? ten points per year? the 132 from murton is blown way out of proportion because it was in like 58 games. In the other two years Soriano beats him by 31 and 23 points respectively. And since when did OPS+ ignore OBP? That also ignores that for many of those AB's he was in a platoon role which is more favorable. If I'm being simplistic, it's because this is very simple and that's all this requires. Soriano is a much better player and it doesn't help the team to downgrade talent everyday.
