with the replies to my questioning some logic in this thread, it makes sense why they don't see the logic. They dont get it. Smoltz, Sandberg, et al, were not players on their respective teams. Maddux was drafted, developed, performed at a high level twice and reached career milestones with the Cubs. This is more emotional for those negative people on this subject then logical. This is a perfect example of how stats can make any argument see appropriate. Stats are not the whole story. If Maddux goes into the Hall as a Cub does this change any opinions?

Retiring numbers is a sign of respect for the player and a symbol that the organization respects what that player did. By some logic here, the Cubs should not have retired Jackie Robinson's number. Regardless of the years that Maddux Played elsewhere, the Cubs produced the best Pitcher to play in the last 20 years. That alone is enough to retire his jersey.

How ridiculous. Maddux is the best pitcher in recent memory and a big part of that was the Chicago Cubs. The team did develop him after all. To say that he should not have his number retired is ludicrous.

I was at the game and Man what a crappy crowd. There were no fans cheering or anything. Really "churchlike". Hart in the 9th was directly out of "Major League". He was nowhere near the plate and then grooved one for the granny. The filler players on the cubs have no chance. They looked flat and had no energy. Some fun stuff though. The clubhouse door was open for an hour before the game and the guys kept going back & forth. The gym backdoor was open too and Sean Marshall was there near the door riding the bike. Really nice guy. Fitch was in great shape and the guys were having a good time. In a sunday newspaper article, the Cubs seem pretty serious in moving from Mesa. After seeing Surprise stadium and Ho Ho Kam back to back, I don't blame them. Ho Ho Kam is seriously outdated and has nothing for a typical spring facility. It wouldn't surprise me to see the Cubs move to a place like goodyear.

I think the seahawks might pick Raji. It just depends on which side of the ball gets the attention. With Mora being a Defensive coach, Raji is likely at #4 too. I just wanted a franchise LT to replace Jones.

So most pundits see a WR here but Crabtree is hugely overrated. Ruskell is someone who also goes talent before need or what the fans look for. With the Mock here taking an odd turn already, Stafford looks like an interesting choice because Hass is already 34, but there will likely be at least 1 more year for him and a better value will be available later in the draft.
