  1. Jim Hendry and Dust Baker are in current negotiations for extending their jobs. IMO I'm glad that the Trib wonks will create some stability. I hate getting a new manager/GM and putting to much hope on them. The one thing that some or most Cub fans have been saying is "try and build the team like the Braves". Well the one thing the Braves have is stability in the manager and back office. Same goes with the Cards and Yanks, all winning organizations. As much criticism that Dusty gets, much well earned, he is the only winning manager I've seen in my life time over three seasons with the Cubs. Not perfect but not bad either. JH has his share of bad moves too but he has made some great moves. 2 words Todd Hundley! I like having the Cubs organization create a stable environment. It’s good for the players or perspective players seeing that the Tribune Co. has committed to the back office and believes in their system. (for now) I see these eventual signings as a good thing for the long term winning prospect of the Cubs.
  2. Yes. 2-2. Reds are batting, with a runner on 3rd, 2 outs. Thanks coach C Gald the Cubs are on the board early this year. They'll get it going. Just need there pitchers to get going. Scott
  3. According to thread 15 it's a tied game 2-2 right?
  4. Does this really need to start 5 innings into the season? The comment itself or what he was talking about? Well two-fold. 1) The presumption that today's performance by Z is gonna = what we do for the next 161 games. 2) The posting style that reflects that the sky is falling everytime the Cubs don't perform Perfectly (i.e don't score a runner in scoring position with less than 2 out EVERY time we have the chance), even though no team performs perfectly. But maybe I just need to ignore the posts. Just get the score. The mamby pamby chiken little the sky is falling crap gets old. It's game one and it's tied 5-5. Let the pen absob this one for Z that probably was jacked up, being opening day and all.
  5. NO way, why? The word in FlashChat is a rib strain. Wow, the guy's health just tanked. A lot of rumors about that too? "roidal rumors.
  6. Just checking in what's happening? Z losing his cool yet?
  7. I cringed when I wrote that. It'd be "to bad" if they wouldn't open up if given immunity. They really have nothing to lose. As for the grand jury leak. I have no answer and the leaked info hasn't set the world on fire, just lined the pockets of book writers.
  8. What if McGuire and Sosa say they didn't do steriods? It sounds to me like you've already convicted them. What about other players, Termell Sledge, Palmerio, and the dozen or so minor leaguers who have been caught? The point is I'd give them a free pass. Free from prosecution. So they can tell what they know. If it's nothing, then it's nothing, but I'm betting it's something and this would ensure that their rep. will be intact. How can you say that their rep will still be intact? MLB may give them a free pass, but if these guys are openly admitting to using performance enhancing substances, I would bet that most fans would not be so kind. And what about hall of fame voters? These guys would have way too much to lose and nothing to gain. I don't have an answer for that. I bet the HOF induction would come around if the "players" involved, participated in this investigation. Again, I never said they'd have to publicly admit to anything. Just to be open for questioning by baseball and not be prosecuted by their answers. I mean come-on there is a massive pink elephent in the room and the player know it and the owners know it and so does MLB. So address it for all of the fans sake and get it done.

  10. Closing the barn door after the horses already left comes to mind when I first read about this investigation. To investigate properly and completely I would do the following. I would give Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Sosa, and all the others a "get out of jail free card". Free and clear (Clear haha). Autonomy. I would allow them to tell of what they used, how they used, whom they bought it from or how they got it. I'd have them tell everything without the threat of prosecution. If not, then the investigation will chase it's tail and never come up with anything of value. I would have the statements of those individuals sealed for all time too. You might ask why? It's simple, if steroid's were really an issue before say 2005 then testing would have already been in place. But it wasn't. So for the future health of the game why not ask the major players of that era to tell all for the benefit of the game? You can't expect to punish someone if it wasn't illegal at the time, but you can use their knowledge to shape the future of the steroid testing. Just my $0.02. It's to late to go back. Shame on baseball but it has an opportuinity to make things right again at least for the future.
  11. I like Jacque Jones and I believe his play this year will open your guy's eyes. I hope you will be pleasently suprised by Jacque and will happily eat your negative comments and words in time. Arguing on whom we should have gotten for RF is a practise in futility. We're Cubs fans we have enough of that already.
  12. Random Positive thoughts It's a brand new year and no game has counted yet. Wood and Prior don't seem to have "long term" injuries. We have a lead off hitter. Jauque Jones will suprise the Nay sayers with his LC, RC hitting, perfect for Wrigley! The battles will not be with the Cards and Astros, but with Milwaukee. I believe this team will be much more likeable then the past 2 years, less crying. The strength will be the Pen. This team will have a momentum early in the spring and carry it all through the season. As a fan I going to enjoy this year for what it is and not for what it isn't. My advice, enjoy game 1 as much as game 162 and you wont go wrong.
  13. The winners is... A: A-Rod B: R. Howard/D. Lee C: J Bay/C. Delgado/ALfonso Soriano D: Au. Huff/Frank Thomas/ Austin Kearns/Jacque Jones WC Jim Thome
  14. Tim et al. Congrats. I could'nt think of a better marriage then the JAXX and the NSBB community. Way cool for you!
  15. Duly noted. In fact, last year 1 & 2 accounted for 24.5% of the PA's 24.5% of th PA's and 24.6% of the runs scored. Sorry but with Ramirez and Lee behind them the 1-2 spots should be doing more than average in the run scoring department. What if your 3-4 hitters just did 23% of the RBI in 23% of the PA's? We'd be screaming, that's what! That's all quite true, but it really doesn't address the original point. It was obviously an exaggeration. But the original point was that the top of the Cubs order sucked last year. Thus the reason for optimisum this year
  16. For some reason Neif! thrives under Dusty Baker and proves all or most nay sayer's wrong...for a couple of at bats....!
  17. Very optimistic. Hey, I said "little!" If I was optimistic, I'd say Tony Gwynn with more power! I just really like Matty. He has an exceptional approach to the plate and an exceptional work ethic. I hope he's in LF for the Cubs for years to come. I couldn't agree more. I'm so gun shy on any rookie (young guy) taking the field since the Hill, Choi, and Patterson failures (at least in a Cub uni). I want Murton and Cedano to work out so bad. To much negative talk about the bad side of the new Guys Hendry brought in.
  18. Fricking base clogger. Way to go Matt! 8) Murton was the real deal and it was Hendry's coup that brought him and Nomar to the Cubs. Nomar was a working part and if he fit in great. Murton was the bright fiture that Hendry wanted more then Nomar. My Red Sox bretherin still hate the trade!! Watching Murton's approach to an at-bat compared to say Corey Patterson's was night and day.
  19. And just like last year, the boys who bat 1 and 2 in the lineup are not getting on base in front of them. Grrr. It's early yet.
  20. I agree he reminds me of a young Joe Girardi. He also reminds me of Brad Wilkinson. Yikes! If he grew a Walrus mustache then he'd be Barry Foot.
  21. Clemens then told him to "Get your f-in' shinebox." Jimy. Clemens coming to Chicago and winning the World Series would be a great story. Then again... Jimy is a misspel coming to Chicago and Winning a WS would be a great story too. _______ coming to the Cubs and winning the WS would be great. Barrett can only ask. Glad he had the nads to do it.
  22. This is the first time since before Alfonseca "the octopus" did the splits during spring training that the Cubs have their closer going in to the season. I don't know why but Dempster strikes me as a wolf in Joe Boroski's clothing. He's not an over powering closer. He's what I deem a "David" type closer. Other "David" types are Danny Beaz, Danny Graves (in his day), and Brad Lidge. The "Daivd" types doesn’t over power you or intimidate you, their crafty and sly. The goliath types are more like Gange, Lee Smith, and Rod Beck. They try and intimidate and over power you. Bruce Sutter’s best pitch was his change up and not his heat. Why bring this up? Because I'm not really sure Dempster is the total answer. I don't see Dempster coming in the game and thinking "oh this is over". I think more like "oh god I hope he doesn't blow this". If you've been a Cubs fan for a while you'll know what I'm talking about. When Big Lee Smith got up it was over. When Randy Meyers began throwing it was over. Rod Beck had that "it's over" quality in his closer role. Dempster doesn't have that quality. I believe he might know that and uses that to is advantage by getting the batter thinking aggressively and not thinking base hit. I'd like NSBB nation to chime in on this and see what you think.
  23. I miss Sammy Sosa and he will be in the HOF mark my words. Sosa made the 1998 season what it was, if you remember how he calmed Big Mac down from being a jaskass and enjoying "the run". the corked things wasn't a big deal nor was him leaving early on games 162. Was it wrong? yeah it was but we were all frustrated at the time and Sosa was getting the blame, which at the time should have been Dusty's and Hawkins. I'm with roast on this one. Sammy was great for the Cubs and for those that poke holes in the man and his career. Enjoy it to no real end.
