Signing Greinke will mortgage the future. I'd rather get the club exclusive years of Cashner, McNutt and Archer instead of selling them for a 86 win season.

6 years of Belt under team control will probably be worth more than Rowand's horrific 2012 salary. Then again, why would the Giants give away a top prospect when they need help at the position?

The Cubs must have been offered $6 or $7 million. Perhaps the Giants considered their World Series revenue to be found money and saw a way to improve their team.

That's a staff to roll the dice with. It doesn't even include possible breakouts by Archer, McNutt or Jay Jackson. Very intriguing.

I chuckled about the $4.8 million that John Grabow is due until I checked Cot's for the contract details. He's still on the Cubs?!? Didn't we trade him for some mound dirt at the deadline last year? Ugh. I didn't see him in August or September and assumed he got shipped out.

The Cubs choose one player every offseason to overpay. I'm glad Kerry Wood is the one who won the Hendry lottery. It will be fun waving those K signs in the bleachers. Hopefully he can mentor McNutt and Archer when they get called up.

I'd say his upside is that of a .350-.360 OBP, 10ish homers and 40-50 steals, while playing a GG caliber SS. That sounds a lot cheaper than trading for Jose Reyes.

LB Trade Rumors: 9:54pm: The Cubs and Rays met again to talk about a potential trade that would send Garza to Chicago for prospects, according to Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com. The Brewers and Rangers have also met with the Rays about Garza, but the Cubs have the strongest current bid, according to Levine. However, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel hears that talks between the Rays and Brewers did not progress (Twitter link).

Garza will be fine in a division where Bronson Arroyo is the Game 1 playoff starter. I wouldn't trade Brett Jackson and Archer for him. I have no qualms with Gorzo and Jay Jackson though.

Chris Davis is a cheap scratch ticket. He might strike out 200 times but he still has a ton of slugging potential. Carlos Pena, Carlos Quentin and Jack Cust all took a long time before they clicked. I know, I know but all these option beat Lyle Overbay. My wish list would be whichever 1B player the Royals or Blue Jays do not want. Better to be young and bad than veteran and bad. -
Toonsterwu, or any other prospect mavens, I have a question. The world is down on Marquez Smith. What's his ceiling in the bigs? Pedro Feliz? Jose Lopez? Kevin Orie?

This community has the best minds about the Cubs minor league system. Has anyone changed their mind since August 31st? Who would you say has the highest potential even if their odds of reaching it is lower? Besides Vitters.
