  1. Did I mention that Sandberg's sanchez style '87 mustache is infinitely better than anything Joe ever sported? :)
  2. Morgan was an OBP guy. Sandberg was more of a slugger --- not a bad OBP, but not nearly as good as Morgan. Does that make Morgan head and shoulders better? Hardly. Both were excellent base runners. Sandberg was probably the better fielder. They seem pretty similar to me. The difference is that it appears that Sandberg doesn't give a damn about who's better. Morgan, on the other hand, gets his panties in a wad every time the name "sandberg" is mentioned. Is it any surprise that Morgan was not in attendance for the 05 HoF induction? This is a guy who prides himself on all things Hall related, yet he fails to make this particular one? It's not like these things aren't scheduled years in advance.
  3. the regular trade deadline was Aug 31 in '89 as well. Wynne was your typical 80s style player --- speed, speed, and speed. Nothing much else. Salazar was a good pickup for that year. Vance Law couldn't hit water if he fell in the ocean and the cubs had not yet picked up hall of famer Gary Scott ;)

    90 wins?

First team to 84 wins gets the trophy!
  5. Ron said he was told that they didn't find an injury in his wrist just "some fluid in there." Blood?
  6. I didn't watch it. It means jack crap to me. It's not something I'll tell my son about. He's a jerk. He's a cheater. I have no respect for the guy. Good for him and his record.
  7. I'm glad that Perry talked the cubs out of taking roids. Good for him.
  8. maybe they're off the juice. . . . . . .I keeeed, I keeeed!
  9. so are we going $100 per team or $150?
  10. I'll vote for you if you'll send me that Sandberg / Boggs video :) Just kidding, I'll vote for you regardless!
  11. That 04 team was ravaged by injuries. If not for the injuries, I think we'd have seen the 95+ wins. I don't know why people have such a problem with the current team. The pitching is solid and the offense is consistent. They consistently put up 5 runs without the reliance on home runs. That kind of offense is needed in the post season when homers really aren't going to be all that common in the cold chicago air. In my mind, the 07 cubs could well be the best all around team we've had since 89 and maybe even 84. The 01 team was not good. The 03 team was helped out by a pathetic division. Granted, they had the power pitching needed to make a playoff run and they did a super job taking advantage of that as well as the year-end hot streak. In the end, I like the 07 team. It's a nice blend of good management, vets, rookies, pitching, and offense. They don't go to extremes in any one category. . . . consistentcy.
  12. He's been on Hill's ass (rightfully so) on that topic for the past month or so. Seems like Hill gets flustered really easily out there.
  13. Where were you in 1999? 2000? 2002? 2006? How 'bout 1994 or 1997?
  14. no doubt. Demp was getting squeeeeeezed that inning. all's well that ends well.
  15. CHOKERS!!!!!!!!
  16. whew. . . i just knew that was a granny. now it's time for the brewer pen to blow one.
  17. I have to agree with the met announcer. Why throw a first pitch change up. He's changing speeds off what?
  18. aka: the new ESPN logo
  19. I've watched teh cubs since '84 and I never remember them playing well against teh phillies. Why the hell do we not attempt to throw out baserunners?
  20. Fell? That drunk SOB belly flopped after the ball went by him. The CSN broadcast isn't showing it, Bob just said he fell. If ESPN showed otherwise, my mistake. ESPN showed the whole thing :) When he "fell" over the rail (even though he could never have reached a ball) the grounds crew guy just rolled his eyes at him.
