  1. Well, with how Ohman did today we might need another lefty in the pen. Rich Hill please. Let Guzman get a few more starts in.
  2. Yeah, so far Dusty hasn't pissed me off. He's never got this many games in without doing it before. Make fun of his bad decisions, not how he says things. That just comes off as snobbish and elitist. I'll badmouth him the first time he costs us a ballgame. I don't know, maybe he took a class over the winter or started reading NSBB
  3. I'd be shocked if it didn't end up being a bargain. I attribute the rise of Derrek Lee to be a mixture of hitting in a better park, having an energetic home to play to, and figuring out how to get in his groove earlier in the season. If he keeps it up, he's a big money player and we got a deal. Konerko got close to 60 didn't he? We were going to have to pay market value to keep Derrek. I mean, what was the alternative to paying this, taking our chances in free agency or hoping that Dope or Sing put it together quick? Good sign.
  4. Good signing. I think he could have gotten more on the free agent market with another All-Star season, so I'm happy. We got a small hometown discount, and it's really only 4 seasons :D
  5. Well...um...if he's going to get random starts to "get him playing time", I hope that he doesn't suck, so the team can win and all. Um...go Nefinator!!
  6. With Albert, Larry, etc., it's just business baby. No hard feelings. With Edmonds...that's personal
  7. Sounds like the Reds buying cheap, hoping to sell high later in the year.
  8. Sounds like they're down to haggling over numbers, not years, which is a good thing. There's always compromise when you're talking numbers
  9. Kerry Wood won't be taking a pay cut as long as; a. Some other team will be willing to pay him more guaranteed. b. (more importantly) Scott Boras is his agent. All depends on how much he wants to stay with the club and stay in Chicago. And as for B, maybe Z can convince him to do what he did if he thinks that's going to keep the club from wanting to talk :D
  10. I think he comes back. They'll negotiate a lower base salary with incentives that would push him up to the $13.5 million if he stays healthy.
  11. Cabrera and Willis could be moved because of their cost, but damn sure not to New York because they'll want cheap Superstar caliber players. They're going to want someone that is still a year removed from Arbitration.
  12. Awesome, it should be a strict platoon really. Todd gets the righties, Jerry gets the lefties. Perez gets his starts at shortstop against pitchers he's had big time success against.
  13. It'll be crazy if (and that's a huge if) Wood, Prior, and Miller all come back early in the year healthy. If Marshall continues to impress and Guzman is breathing down all of their necks, that's going to make for some crazy depth. We should be able to deal a little of that to patch up whatever comes to be our weaknesses.
  14. Well, as far as the spring goes it's been about a wash, Jerry has gotten on base more, Todd has slugged more. Since we're talking about the 2 hole here, might be better to have the OBP and speed. (note: i realize that past numbers dictate that Walker would have the better OBP than Hairston, simply talking about spring numbers if we're to believe this was an open competition)
  15. with today's Sun-Times report that Hairston will be the starter at second, I wouldn't assume for a second that Walker won't be dealt for a right handed bat.
  16. Agreed, we all need to unite behind the suckyness of Neifi Perez...
  17. Amazing he turned sucking into 11 million dollars. Going to guess he just lucked out that he always found a team that needed a utility guy. How much of that was luck and how much was just astutely picking the right teams to sign with...hard to say.
  18. Yup, one would assume a vehicle will help her get to school, a computer is a necessity for school in this day & age, and it doesn't sound like she's asking too much to send the kid to community college. Unless Randy can say with a straight face that he isn't paying his other childrens way through school, he should pay for hers too. Plus lets not forget that just as we should give him the chance to tell his side of the story on the issue of not seeing his daughter, the mother deserves the same courtesy on the money issues. Until The Smoking Gun breaks the documents, who knows if the $750 a month was really just for day-care. Strange that he didn't start paying child support until 1998, I'd imagine the back support for the first 8 years of her life would be a lot more than a hundred grand... Though from what I know of friends custody experience, he isn't going to get any of that back money back. He'll be lucky to get them to stop the $750 monthly payment.
  19. Damn, cuts are coming fast. Looks like the position player situation is settled, all that's left is the last bullpen cuts (and Wade Miller going on the DL)
  20. Quick! Somebody get Lenny a minor league deal somewhere else, Dusty will start wondering why I've got him in this bubble...
  21. Somehow I have trouble having sympathy for a guy who is making as much a year as him. Raising your child because you don't want to mess with it? $70 grand sounds like a ballpark figure.
  22. Seems only the Mets scouts have compared him to Beltran but that keeps getting repeated. I'd more hope he's a late blooming Juan Pierre to keep us from paying $13 million for him next season. Odds in his favor? Not even close, but I can hope. I think I won't tell him he can't, and give him the chance to sink or swim. Shouldn't take too long on the roster to find out if he's a surging talent, an adequate 5th outfielder/25th man, or trash.
