  1. If only Murton could play even just an "almost adequate" center field. Because with Soriano leading off, there will be a lot of games in the 6th or 7th inning if we're doing well where he's already been at bat 5 or so times. No reason in those situations you couldn't throw Matt out there to get some at bats if he was sitting on the bench. If only, lol...
  2. The SI Curse and the Goat Curse just had a war...and they both died! 2007 is saved! :D
  3. I think we may be surprised by the Soriano->Jacque->DLee combo. Nice Righty, Lefty, Righty mixup. Jacque will see a lot of dejected pitchers that just let Soriano beat them. Great protection behind him guarantee's good pitches. I want to see how it looks in the spring.
  4. I simply want the best man for the job to win it. If we magically get the Cesar that put in that great half season before being injured, cool. If we get the other Cesar, then he has to be the games most expensive late inning defensive replacement.
  5. I'd say Jacque against righties, DeRosa against lefties. It's a bold move, but I think Jacque can do alrigtht there OBP wise solely against righties. Especially if he has Soriano on base and Lee on deck a lot of the time. Assuming Soriano is near his 2006 numbers, I think Jacque could shock us with his production in the 2 hole. My lineup on those days would be Soriano Jones Lee Ramirez Barrett Murton DeRosa Izturis Pitcher Although, especiall when Zambrano, Marquis, or Prior are pitching, I'd consider moving Cesar to 9th. The luxary of always having Soriano on deck might prop his numbers up a bit.
  6. Riot played some shortstop in the minors, I think he could potentially handle a few games to spell Cesar. If not, DeRosa can always slide over to short and Riot can play second. If Cesar gets hurt he's replaced by Ronny on the roster. I think we'd be covered.
  7. There were two glaring holes in the 2006 Cubs. Slugging, and OBP. We've probably addressed the slugging issue with Soriano and Floyd, nevermind it looking like Soriano will play center and Jacque will be in right. The OBP issue, sadly, wasn't addressed much. Hill might help a tiny bit in that regard. If the final bench spot comes down to Hill, Pagan, or Cedeno, Hill is probably the way to go. We'll find out in spring training I suppose. It is at least mildly worth noting that he had a bit of a resurgence at AAA Portland last year. A line of .282/.396/.395/.791. And it appears to be because of improved patience. He drew one less walk than his wonderful 2002 year at Iowa, in 45 less at bats. There might be something left here worth having.
  8. It's not like he put down a beer, pushed the bag of potato chips off of his stomach and just randomly proclaimed "I'm going to start training for baseball!". This is Sammy, i'm sure he's been "training" as in working out and such for a long time. And I'm sure he did some "training" before announcing to make sure he was still physically able to give it another try. Sammy was never one for willingly embarrasing himself.
  9. Really makes no sense to even just keep him hanging around at Iowa if he can't pitch at all in 2007. His contract would be over before he's ready to pitch again.
  10. I want to see Floyd playing against any Lefty with reverse splits (sit Jones, Murton can handle a few games in RF) and any Righty he is likely to handle better than someone else in the OF. I want Murton given every chance to play more than Floyd. It isn't insurance if you overuse it.
  11. Ewww, Darth Cheney a Cubs fan? Well, I guess he does need something fun and cute and cuddly, what with all the dirty dirty work to be done. Those Muslims won't torture themselves now will they? 8-) To be serious though, the only good thing about these clowns would be that they'd probably unload the team quick like. They care about one thing, cash, and the quick buck (and we know they are not looking to get rich down the line, they want to be rich tomorrow) lies in selling the team. Negotiate a fair 20 year contract for the broadcast rights for WGN, print access for the Tribune, and find yourself a Billionaire. I'd prefer The Tribune Company just cut out the middle man though. :D
  12. Funny thing is, if he could come back healthy and in better physical shape, I wouldn't blink at a minor league deal. So long as it's cheap. 2005 Glendon Rusch would have been useful stashed at Iowa last year, lol. Stupid clots and weight. :?
  13. Skelator's "Snake Mountain" would work as well.
  14. Tony Miller is mildly interesting. Awesome OBP two years in a row at AA Tulsa in '04 and '05 (.384 and .400) but he fell apart last year. Anyone know anything more on him?
  15. You just better not freaking sell to these evil doers, Tribune Co. I'm warning you, technically the Reds are closer anyway...
  16. I'm going to have a real hard time rooting for a Carlyle Group owned Cubs.
  17. Yup, there's no 60 day DL right now.
  18. The year we win a Series would instantly become one of the top three years in my life, right even with being born, and just behind getting married. :D As for my long term reaction, I'd probably start by screaming in celebration. Probably sob like a baby at some point aftewards. Follow that up with more celebration. Few weeks of walking around on cloud 9 and/or worrying I'll wake up any minute. And after that, just a permanent smile when I think about Chicago Cubs, World Champions.
  19. Looks like the Sox signed Erstad because Stewart wanted too much money. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=MLB&id=2152&line=199136&spln=1 No thanks...
  20. This would be an absolute nightmare. It's not like I don't deal with the devil that is Rupert Murdoch in my life already. I watch Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad, despite it being on his network. I watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, despite it being on another of his networks. Sports all the time on FOX. And yet, this would make me cry just a little bit inside.
  21. Of course, this is a market where Gil Meche is worth $55 million dollars. I'd wager that all Marquis would have to do is perform average, ERA in the low 4's, to be tradeable later in the season.
  22. Is Pagan any worse than Erstad or Finley at this point?
  23. And the Cubs should respond appropriately. **middle finger here**
  24. They might "officially" count Ward as an infielder and carry Pagan as the 5th outfielder. Even if they did, there isn't going to be many at bats for him. A lot of late inning pinch running most likely.
  25. And I highly doubt they'd let him switch if he also said "just so we're clear, i expect to play Center Field for my entire Cub career." I'm sure he just doesn't want to get jerked around during a given year, and it's not like a move from Center to Right is going to be such a big deal, not like moving from the infield to the outfield.
