  1. My monstrosity http://images.rbkcustom.com/email/email_10006_20070316082912596.jpg
  2. Also add Desi Relaford (puke) to the Crappy Middle Infielder Derby, with Jerry Hairston making the Rangers he isn't making the team. :(
  3. At this point, it's a battle between Perez and Cedeno. Of course, the Cubs could make a deal late. I'm sure you guys remember they got Freddie Bynum at the end of spring last year. You do remember, right? :D I'm not drunk enough yet Bruce for that not to hurt... Dirty pool Bruce, dirty pool...
  4. Junior Spivey just hit the open market!!! **shoots self**
  5. While a demotion would be mildly humiliating, I've got to think that pitching in competitive games would be a lot more helpful than extended spring training.
  6. I detest gambling and believe that the ban was the right thing to do at the time, but I also think it's been long enough and he should be reinstated. Lets face it, when baseball gave Shoeless Joe his lifetime ban, they actually had some credibility left. Now, with the whole steroid ordeal, they can't really say "we can never let Pete Rose in the HOF, or else lose integrity" with a straight face. In fact, I would even support Shoeless Joe Jackson being reinstated and finally put in the hall. Sorry MLB, but your hall is already filled with cheaters and bad people. One or two more won't hurt... That being said, I would also support a reinstatement agreement where Pete Rose is allowed to be inducted into the HOF and participate in Reds on-field events, but agrees to never take anything more than a front office job with a team. He would just be a circus as a teams skipper. However, THAT being said, it would not shock me one bit to see someone give him the job if he were ever reinstated. There would be a lot of small market teams interested in the press coverage and fan interest that a Pete Rose comeback as manager would bring. Do you really think the Pirates aren't going to take a chance to fill some seats? Or the Devil Rays?
  7. That line about Cesar is a classic. :D
  8. So only young artists have good concerts? yes. Lets see, I've seen... Paul Simon Art Garfunkel (strangely, never together) Joni Mitchell Bob Dylan (a zillion times) The Dead Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise Willie Nelson Robert Plant & Jimmy Page All of whom were "old" when I saw them, and all of whom put on great concerts. So I'll have to disagree.
  9. All I know is I like the "we've got too many starters!" problem a lot better than the "do we have any warm bodies left at Iowa?" problem we had last year.
  10. So what infield backup do we trade Miller for? :?:
  11. I could also see us waiting out Todd Walker in San Diego and grabbing him if he's released.
  12. Miller could also "win" with the hope being that he pitches decently enough to bring more in a trade. However, I'd highly prefer Angel Guzman be given the chance instead.
  13. and I'm confident that Izturis can get close to Theriot in that department :D I guess we can come back and actually find what happened after the year. For sure. Count on me to find some argument(valid, or completely off the wall) to try and prove I was right. Irregardless if you're wrong?
  14. It's going to be interesting, the best bet would be to keep him in the rotation briefly, wait for the first starter to go down somewhere else, and deal him (to maximize his value). But we may not have that luxury.
  15. And in this case, the third time is NOT a charm...
  16. Oh no. Please don't sign them Jim. Pretty please?
  17. So I guess that makes me feel the same way I felt in 1998 when my brain was telling me "this isn't natural". Namely, it makes me feel like everyone's on a level playing field, so I don't really care. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, a need to not have such an important part of my life be a fairy tale. But until someone shows me the failed test or the past purchase ala Matthews, I'm taking blissful ignorance, thank you very much. I'll believe Sammy is as clean right now as I do any other ballplayer. I hope he hits 50 and slugs the Rangers into the postseason. Because I've always supported my team first and my heroes second. But in this case, I have no reason to be conflicted. Dudes in the AL.
  18. I'm not so sure about that. He surely was tested when he came into spring training, have been out of the game for a year. Sure, he could be on HGH or something, but so could every other player in the game. To me, it would seem to deflect some of the attention if he plays well and doesn't fail a test.
  19. Man, Sammy is killing so far in spring training. I'm so glad he got his second chance in the AL and not with the Cards or something...
  20. They have a bit of leverage. A-Rod isn't the type of person to just come out and say "yeah, trade me to the Cubs or I'm opting out", so waiting is no sure thing. And waiting means accepting Cesar Izturis as our shortstop for all of 2007. Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but that sounds like a negative. Plus the Yankees can be content to let him walk and take the draft picks, unless there's some clause to keep them from offering arbitration.
  21. To get A-Rod in a trade would require the perfect storm, which I think would include a) the explosion of Scott Moore. The Yankees are going to want a replacement at third. We don't have that to give without Moore taking the next step. So he either gives it, or we have to trade for it to spin to the Yankees. b) the emergence of Angel Guzman as a stud pitcher. Guzman needs to force himself into the rotation and interest the Yankees. If not, we're going to have to supply a top of the rotation starter from somewhere else. Because the Yankees are going to be asking for that. And I don't want to part with Rich Hill. But right now, I'd bet that's where the discussion begins. And a whole lot more. Not holding my breath.
  22. I think "to make sure he's healthy" is a load of bull, but I could see him going to Iowa to start the season if his velocity isn't back up. If he's working in the high 80's and topping out at 91 or 92, and Guzman is pushing the issue, you might just have to. Could be as little as 15 days. That being said, I hope that Mark is working in the low 90's and topping out in the mid 90's.
  23. Man, I'm starting to get excited about this season. GO CUBS!
  24. It would be interesting to see Ichiro in the NL, though, and see if his numbers got a bump from the league change. However, still don't want that to be in a Cubs uniform, barring an incredible deal or catastrophic injury.
  25. Hope Mark can turn it around. I have no doubt he wasn't going full tilt in his first spring training start. He's bound to be a little bit tentative after all the trouble he's had. Lets hope he's working in the high 80's and topping out in the low 90's, at least, in his next start.
