  1. No thanks. The money and years that would be needed to resign him would scare me away anyway. Never mind the talent. He probably has a few more good years before that average dips below .300, but it may be getting here faster than we think. Last year versus RHP. Murton - .295 .356 .426 .782 Ichiro - .312 .361 .405 .766 Again, no thanks. It would be a redundant move because the upgrade in defense will not be worth the cost in talent. Especially when you consider that Matt is fairly young and can still improve his fielding.
  2. I'd prefer to see Pie stay in the minors, at least for however long he needs to so we retain his rights for an extra season.
  3. Maybe he just sold them. :o
  4. Can you blame the guy, how else will he get to sleep with hot chicks? Of course, I'm pretty liberal. I've never gotten the sense in criminalizing prostitution. Regulate it and tax it instead.
  5. He's got a lot of work to do, lol. Luckily he's got time to do it. I think he can.
  6. Ah, but see, Cesar is attending Matt's "how to see more pitches" seminar. It might work out. Obviosuly, prefer to see Matt in the 2 hole. If he isn't in the game, it'll come down to either DeRosa or Jacque. :?
  7. Sure going to be a fun spring. :D I like that Floyd is sitting out the first week of games. Lets hope Matt gets off to a hot start and forces the issue quick. Let the question be "who do you play more, Jacque or Cliff".
  8. A big old "hell yes" to Murton in the 2 hole.
  9. Oh well. His number flies with the wind at Wrigley, and I'm sure that means a million times more to him than a placque in Cooperstown. **** 'em, I like to say...
  10. It's time to just scrap the whole Veterens Committee, or totally redo it. What is the point of an organization who never elect anyone? Nevermind that so many of them vote no to anyone for stupid reasons like "if they were Hall of Famers, they'd already be in". Just kill it.
  11. Page is getting slow, lol, I don't think you're the only one. Back to F5'ing...
  12. Lets hope that today gives good reason for a "This Old Cub" special edition, with new footage. :D
  13. I'm not religious, but damn if I'm not praying right now...
  14. little did he know... This is the reason why time travel would rock. You could go back in time, put yourself in a position to congratulate him after that third win, buy him a beer, and then ambiguously say "enjoy it man, might not always be this way..." Then come back in time and find out if your little prank made things better, or made them worse. Hmm. **Writes script to TV pitch "A-holes Who Time Travel"**
  15. Don't worry, he saw the Haitian guy from Heroes. He no longer remembers that beaning. :D
  16. I'd imagine they looked at their crop of pitchers and thought "hmm, who do we need to see the most of before we ever think of putting him in a REAL game?", and instantly said "MARQUIS".
  17. They're just going to have to work with their environment. Winds blowing out, a righties on the mound, and Floyds jumping up and down like it's Christmas? Play him. Rainy conditions and his joints are achy? Bench him. Same thing, lefty on the mound? Murton. Winds blowing in and we need every baserunner we can get? Murton. Pitcher who is just going to fall apart when Matt takes the 15th pitch in the at bat? Murton. Pretty much any situation where Matt is going to succeed? Play the kid. And, when you get to that point where the winds blowing out with the righty on the mound and both Matt and Cliff are jumping up and down like it's Christmas, well, lets look at Jacque's numbers when that time comes. Nice problem to have. :D I'd like to see Matt sniff 500 AB's, Jacque less, and Floyd you're always going to take it game by game anyway.
  18. Nobody wants Zambrano to rip off your head and scream "FATALITY!!!"
  19. Bruce, have you heard anything solid on how short Marquis' leash is going to be? Such as, what if Angel Guzman is forcing the issue, or Neal Cotts, Wade Miller, etc., and Marquis starts right off with 6.00 ERA. Any clue just how many starts he's going to get to "turn it around"? Thanks
  20. As a server admin in the "real world", lol, I think I can share that it's safe to say the hits help. The newspaper runs the site and no doubt gets reports of unique views and total hits and the like. Even if it's not something they care about a lot, us admins have a tendancy to find that kind of thing fun (we're nerds) and it's not unusual where I work to share any jarring traffic stats with your boss. In other words, if the hit stats for Mr. Miles article makes the folks who run the papers server think "damn, what did he write?", it's probably going to be told to the higher ups. And you can never have enough "way to go"'s with your boss!
  21. Good luck Sammy. Here's hoping you can at least pull a Tim Salmon, come back for one last respectable year (and .260/.330/.470, or any variation of that near .800 OPS theme, would be quite respectable), get your 600 homers, and then be able to retire on "your terms".
  22. Hmm, you mean, there's actually a chance that a vast majority of Mark's injuries were flukes and he'll return? It's as if almost all his injuries were out of his control. Like someone ran into him. Or he got an unavoidable linedrive ran into him. Crazy thoughts, almost as if he may have just been hit by that once in a blue moon injury that almost EVERY pitcher gets somewhere in their career, and all the extra injuries just piled onto it to give him the label of brittle. :D
  23. Interesting. I'd imagine that pegs the rotation at this point as Zambrano Lilly Prior Hill Marquis/Miller/Guzman Honestly, I like it. Marquis SHOULD be the 5th man and have to earn the job, 3/21 contract be damned. If we wins it, good. If not, at least you hopefully manage his appearences to make him trade bait eventually.
  24. And I believe him. He had a good number of years after the Tampa Bay debacle to listen to everyone theorize why he failed. There's no reason at all to think he hasn't learned from some of his past mistakes. I think this puts the bullseye square on Cesars skull, to be honest. We're going to need .290/.340 minimum out of you Cesar, or that Theriot kid can give it a try.
