  1. These two tropes: 1) "The GM is just trying to save his job" 2)"The owner is a greedy idiot who thinks the fans are dopes" are what every meatball, in every city, for every sport, trots out as some sort of original insight into whatever team he wants to bitch about.
  2. Don't remember much about him, but I do remember Harry getting really frustrated with him. Funny stuff.
  3. Is the Cubs schedule somewhere on the site? Am I missing it? I know it is easy to get elsewhere.....
  4. I don't listen to many games anymore, but when I do, I'll be damned if I can tell many of the announcers apart (except for Pat Hughes). There is a sameness to all of them these days. I'm probably just old though.
  5. How long does a retirement ceremony take? Here's your Jersey, thanks a lot, handshake. Move on. Play ball.
  6. The Jinx part is a worry. It's rare for the Cubs to enter a playoff race in August. Im sure statistically it hasn't happened much in the last 100 years.
  7. Good to be back. Formerly LemmeHearya. I couldn't remember the email I used when I signed up way way back. I left in 2003 after you know what. 20 years and a World Series and I'm now officially over it.
  8. And almost everyone in our lineup is <25, and cost-controlled for at least four more seasons. Even the magical Cardinals never put together an offense like this. Hate to throw truth on the pity party, but 2015 is an enormous success by any measure. Oh yeah, everyone knows that. In a day after we've all stepped back this will be easier to say. Remember kids, after every trip to the playoffs we (older fans) were convinced that we had just had a good season and the future was bright.
  9. I was in line at a concession stand and they ran out of hot chocolate two people in front of me. The woman in front of me absolutely lost it because they were already out of hot dogs too. It was hilarious. If pissing, pooping, eating, and being comfortable are all that important to you….STAY HOME. People go through all the trouble to go/get to the park and then spend an inordinate amount of time eating, drinking and disposing of bodily waste. It's only a 3 hour game. Sit down and watch the game and stop worrying about food, your pee, and your GD phone.
  10. I think that is the "if you want to see the game, buy a ticket and come inside the park" version. Looks very nice too.
  11. Prepare to hear a lot of mocking. Lights were at least 15 years late and so are these upgrades. Not the fault of the current ownership but the team has always managed to make itself a very easy target. 100 years hasn't helped either.
  12. Also, not sure what you mean by black box but the Wintrust sign is going on top of it. I meant the new board looks like a black box at the moment. But I'm sure they will add some flair on the sides and on the top. I thought the light trees were a good idea but maybe that would be too much. The old scoreboard is going to be ignored. Why would you bother looking at it when all the boards around it are giving you the same information in a more enhanced way? I'd be surprised if that wasn't altered in some way in the years to come. Maybe make it digital somehow? How long do you try and hold onto it? Very interesting to watch this unfold in the next few years.
  13. Do they intend to put field lights on top of it like in some of the renderings? Or just a black box? Was there a final rendering that someone can point to?
  14. I like it. But the old scoreboard look terribly small, dated, and out of place next to it. Like a tear down in Hinsdale (or pick the suburb of your choice).
  15. Childhood hero. I shook hands with him once at Zum Deutschen Eck. Ernie had an incredible grip. It was like shaking hands with a vice. A very nice vice though.
  16. Castro looks about 50 years old in the picture with that article (below). Looks like a beer vendor. http://my.chicagotribune.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-82401970/
  17. Moot point. It's too late. Ricketts invested in a Tulip farm. He might have been able to revive some interest in the team by building a modern stadium somewhere….but battling to save that dump was a colossal blunder. I don't know all the details (cause I don't care anymore….like millions of other people) but if he still has the option to move….it's his only hope.
  18. You must be assuming that each player actually reads them. We are talking about 162 games here. You think they spend their time reading stats between games? Some maybe once in awhile....but daily packets of stats don't mean much. These stats are always available to these guys in todays world. They have to perform on the field.
  19. Looks great. Interesting to see how the screen looks in action. Looks pretty small from the booth angle.
  20. Cant see the pic......is it a joke or for real?
  21. Anyone close by have any updated pics on the new Right Field patio?
  22. Keith Moreland = Ricky Bobby. I can't warm up to the guy. I know the team is lousy and it's his first year but I don't like listening to him. So I dont.
