  1. Real GMs dont care about surplus value? Then why is a team that just offered up a $760M contract in a losing effort like the Yankees worried about how much money Bellinger is going to make in 2025? The Cubs cant expect to win continuing to build a team on the margins. They are stuck in the mud at .500. Its time for this team to acquire some legit top tier talent because the player is a god damn star, not strictly because they are a defensive wizard.
  2. If we are talking to the Yankees, I would rather add to Bellinger and go after Schmidt than Luzardo. They just signed Fried so they have 3 guys that are probably on the block between Cortes, Gil, and Schmidt. They've been talking about trading Schmidt for like 2 years and were pushing for him to be in the Soto trade over King.
  3. He's definitely worth the gamble to cut ties with Mastrobuoni. That's about all I see out of it. The glove plays and hopefully he can run into a few HRs off the bench.
  4. They definitely should eat some of it. Especially if you are getting something even remotely valuable back. Dont let horsefeathers dollars be the hang up.
  5. Dad probably wanted that to be his first name and had to settle with it being the middle.
  6. That's a reading comprehension issue. The article is talking about players they are targeting. Not a package being discussed.
  7. Why do you keep acting like a deal is for both? How much info do you need to read that says Suzuki is pretty much off the table. Period. Full stop.
  8. #4, #5, #11 and #14 prospects in a loaded system headed to the White Sox for Crochet. Damn,
  9. Not a big fan of the Phillies throwing their name in the hat. They could offer up Bohm+. And they operate more in a lets push it across the line fashion.
  10. I mean, you can take it how you want. He could have said everything he did without throwing specific numbers by saying the team is in a position to make a push for the WS. Instead his entire statement was built on teetering on making or not making the playoffs. That's the ideology this FO has lived by the entire times, squeaking in.
  11. Carter out there talking about going from 85 wins to 87 wins. Nice to know 90 isn't the bar any more.
  12. It is not likely to be Suzuki. As many rumors as there are out there talking about the Cubs listening to offers for Suzuki, there are just as many saying while they are listening, it's highly unlikely. Even the article talking about the Astros targeting Suzuki in a Tucker deal splashes cold water on the deal by saying it's likely off the table.
  13. Except that Alonso has no spot in the lineup currently.
  14. Interesting that he lines out a 50-100 prospect and mock trades Caissie.
  15. No on Bregman.
  16. Probably because he just had a bad year and is asking to smash Freemans contract. He'll probably end up like Bellinger in the end, signing someone short term heavy on the opt outs deal.
  17. No one has said both. They named 3 players the Astros are targeting in Parades, Suzuki, and Smith. That doesnt mean they are all included.
  18. I would wonder what the Phillies would ask for in addition to Bellinger in a Bohm deal. Their ask from the Mariners was completely absurd, though.
  19. Lock him up then. Trading and signing Tucker is the only saving grace to not even making a horsefeathers phone call to Juan Soto.
  20. Asking for Paredes AND top prospects is a bit much, but I wouldn't hesitate for 1 second to offer up Cam Smith.
  21. Not possible the Astros are targeting Suzuki. They have no interest in him, or so I was told.
  22. I wont choose misery. I'll let this play out. But my expectations arent super high. All of the Cubs big trades have been pretty big surprises. There's a lot of smoke out there on a Mariners trade, which has since been fanned out, and there's smoke about a Tucker trade. I'll believe it when I see it. I have not seen killer instinct out of Jed like you did Theo. Choosing misery would be fanatically following the team if its status quo. Whereas I will just lose interest until a new Sheriff is in town.
  23. Same spot I find myself in. Nothing has been aggressive so far. The way the Cubs FA period has gone up to this point its classic Jed. Zastryzny Thaiss Morgan Boyd Potentially Kelly. Somehow, some way, Bellinger isn't a member of the Yankees yet, even though they need LF/CF/1B and they've had a hard on for Bellinger for 2 years.
  24. Feel like if the Cubs deal from their starting infield then it creates too much of a ripple. If you trade Paredes, who do you replace him with? At the same time Bellinger is still out the door and with Tucker firmly in RF then Suzuki is out the door. If you trade Busch its the same deal. The tweet didnt say they require a MLB ready corner infielder and the Yankees dont even have one to offer up. Deal from the pitching depth first. Assad, Wicks, Brown.
  25. I dont feel good about anything with this FO, really. I dont trust them enough to not blink first.
