  1. Or maybe they just think they are the same morans that gave Neifi Perez $5 million. Just say no to Pierre. I'd rather have Patterson. If Bradley can be had for nothing, I don't know why Hendry is still thinking about Pierre.
  2. I figured they were kidding. Back on topic. How willing is Philly to give up Michaels?
  3. Yeah, right after I posted this I realized he wouldn't even play if he was traded for. What does UK have against him? He hates cheap effective hitters. So what position does he have in the Cubs organization?
  4. Yeah, right after I posted this I realized he wouldn't even play if he was traded for. What does UK have against him?
  5. Would anybody else love to pick this guy up from the Phillies? Career .380 OBP including .399 last year in 289 AB's. I have to imagine he wouldn't cost that much considering he's going to be 30 next season, and still hasn't gotten a full shot with the Phils. If he can play solid defense, I'd love to try to pick him up for cheap and give him a chance to play centerfield and leadoff next season. It might sound stupid to hand those 2 jobs to a guy who never has played a full season, but his numbers over his career show he has what it takes to be a full time player. I really hope Jim at least takes a look at this guy before going after someone stupid like Pierre. Thoughts? What prospects would we need to get him?
  6. I hate the Sox, but I don't know how you can call their division crappy. The only NL team with more wins than Cleveland was the Cards. The Twins are solid and Detroit was around .500 for a while. But they will still be out first round.
  7. Like Nomar is the reason the teams haven't won. Yeah, let's get rid of Nomar but keep Dusty and Rothschild. That should take care of things.
  8. Ozzie took El Duque also, who is a starter. So he still took 5 starters even though they will use the four man rotation. McCarthy has been way better than El Duque recently. Dumb move by Ozzie, but he's been making them all year.
  9. Wow, that is unbelievable. He's been lights out since he got called back up. 1.69 ERA, 0.91 WHIP in 42 2/3 innings. Looks like Ozzie is definitely taking a lesson out of Dusty's playbook-get the vets in there even if it hurts the ballclub.
  10. All I have to say is this-If Andruw Jones wins the MVP, it just proves that all these awards are becoming a joke. The guy's OBP is over 80 points lower than Pujols' and more than 70 points lower than Lee. He shouldn't even be considered. But since most of the voters seem to think avg, hr and rbi's are the only stats that matter, I fully expect him to win it.
  11. It seems like a lot of people are assuming that he will be gone next year. Why is this? He has had a very nice year and will only cost 2 mil to keep around. I know he isn't great defensively, and says some stupid stuff, but he is one of the better hitters on the team. He fits nicely into the 2 hole and can leadoff too. Did Hendry say something that hinted he will be traded or what?
  12. I would not be surprised AT ALL if this was the case. Dusty realizes how stupid he was so he tries to blame the young guy. And as others have pointed out, if Hairston had stole 2nd it wouldn't have even made a difference unless Cedeno got a hit.
  13. I highly doubt Cedeno is starting on this team as long as Dusty is still here. If Ronny is starting, than that means Neifi will be the 2nd baseman. No way Neifi is a backup behind Cedeno, unless by some miracle either or Dusty or Neifi are gone or better yet both. I kinda hope Nomar is resigned for a cheap one year deal, since he would be a nice low risk/high reward option even if he only plays around 120 games. Pick up Walker's option and have Cedeno give Nomar 1 or 2 days off a weak. If Nomar isn't coming back then I definitely want Cedeno playing everyday.
  14. I've always just assumed that if Dusty wasn't fired, the Cubs wouldn't even consider resigning him after his contract ran out. What a f****** joke. How can this organization be so stupid. It's amazing.
  15. Looks like you jinxed them. They lost 7-3 last night, but it looks like they will probably score 7 again tonight. It seems like their pitching will hold them back from winning it all again, but with that offense you never know. Edit-right after I posted that Ortiz went yard to make it 15/16 home games with 7 or more runs.
  16. I think they will keep him. They gave up a lot for him so it wouldn't make sense to let him go after just 1 year.
  17. 3 weeks of good play does not make up for a career of suckiness. Oh please - I didn't say he was a great player or anything, but his career has been far from "sucky." His career OPS is .003 points higher than Todd Hollandsworth. We don't need another Hollandsworth on this team. Just because he has a great 3 weeks doesn't mean he is an everyday player or would've been the solution to our problems. Hollandsworth had a great 3 months last year and the Cubs decided he could play everyday. How did that work out?
  18. Giles is "capable" of it - Manny will DO it (barring an injury that is). I'm tired of pinning my hopes on guys who have potential - give me some guys who produce. Maybe I should've worded it differently. Giles is far from just a guy with potential. He has proven to be one of the best hitters in the NL since he joined the Pirates in '99.
  19. 3 weeks of good play does not make up for a career of suckiness.
  20. I wouldn't. I'd just sign Giles in the offseason. He's no Manny, but he is still capable of .300/.400/.500 and would not cost nearly as much as Manny.
  21. My god, when to the game on thr I'm going to give a big cheer to Dusty. For real, how does this guy have a job? I use to think a managers role in a teams performance was overrated... Dusty has changed that opinion. How can Walker not be starting 2b? How can Burnitz not be in center? If I were a cubs fan i'd be calling for henery's head to - having Macias and Perez on the team is just silly. I hope i'm not sounding like a troll but I really think henery is an overrated GM. The team he's built (that includes dusty) is broken - it's time to clean house. whew. Perez serves a purpose - but it's as late inning defense, spot starting or pinch hitting. Macias imho serves no purpose that a minor leaguer couldn't handle. Is his D even that good? Looks avg to me: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/perezne01.shtml He's an out making machine. He shouldn't be on ANY roster in MLB. Agreed. He especially should not be on a roster that Dusty Baker manages. Cedeno could easily replace Neifi. I could probably replace him offensively, my D might be a little shaky though.
  22. What I don't understand is, why doesn't Hendry either tell Dusty to play them or send them down? It's obvious that what Dusty is doing to them is not good for their development. I've always though Jim was a pretty good GM, but maybe I was wrong.
  23. Plus, we get to listen to Joe Morgan tell us how great of a manager Dusty is.
  24. I think they had planned on him sitting today and starting tommorow. They don't want to push him too much too soon. So, what's the excuse for not starting Murton all week? I would love to hear Dusty's reasoning on this. I'm sure it would be another classic Dusty quote.
