  1. Great job getting out of that by Williams :D .
  2. Doesn't Prior usually wear batting gloves?
  3. It's also a reality that average is pretty much a meaningless stat and clutch hitting doesn't exist.
  4. Why not? Dunn is better right now than Pie will ever be. If Dunn was 5 years older I would agree with you, but he is only 25 and has plenty of great seasons ahead of him. I highly doubt the Reds would deal their best player without getting the Cubs best prospect. An opportunity to get a player like Dunn doesn't happen very often, so if Cinci needs Pie to deal Dunn, I think we should give him to them. Partly because I don't think Pie becomes a deal breaker. I expect the Reds to counter with Pie, but I think by offering Patterson and better pitchers the deal still gets Dunn. The Reds need pitching and lots of it. One advantage the Cubs could have in trading for Dunn is to offer 2-3 pitching prospects. I also think swapping Patterson for Pie but then offering Dopirak is a better deal for the Reds. If the Cubs put Pie in the deal, then Patterson is out of it and so is Dopirak. Fair enough. I wouldn't be surprised if Cinci wants both Pie AND Dopirak and then someone like Hill though. I personally would do Pie and Dope and Hill for Dunn. It's a huge price to pay prospect wise, but if you factor in that Dunn is our outfielder for 5 years, it becomes worth it. Dunn isn't that much older than most prospects... I think I would pull the trigger on that deal as well. Dunn, Lee and Aram would probably be the best 3-4-5 in the league.

  7. I think we should all pitch in to get this guy tickets to all the Cubs remaining home games :P .
  8. How much longer before Holla is brought in for his gold glove defense?
  9. How much longer before Holla is brought in for his gold glove defense?
  10. Burnitz could have 3 homers already in certain parks.
  11. I thought for sure Encarnacion was gonna catch that.
  12. Murton with a single to left 8) .
  13. He's having a better season than Wood because he's been injured, but how do you figure he's been better than Zambrano? I'd like Maddux to be benched, but that will never happen which is why the Cubs will probably always be known as the lovable losers. If winning was the main priority he would be benched. I don't care if the Cubs "owe it to him", he owes the Cubs an ERA under 5 but he hasn't done that. I hope he gets traded for a decent prospect, let someone else pay him 9 mil next year. Why pay a guy 9 mil when we have several guys who can give us similar production for under a mil?
  14. You're not being foolishly optomistic, but there is certainly no way 88 wins gets us to the postseason this year like it did in 2003. We have already played ourselves out of a chance at the division, so the wildcard is our only outlet, and we are playing lousy against the teams we need to beat to have a legitimate shot at claiming that crown. This team just isn't very good, and an appeal to the 2003 team isn't likely to change that. No chance 88 wins gets us to the postseason? The Braves would need to go 42-37 to end up with 88 wins. They are playing in a division that doesn't have any softies like Pittsburgh or Cinci. They are relying on quite a few rookies and unproven types, and they are far from a powerhouse IMO. I just think it's foolish to count the Cubs out when there is half a season of baseball to play. If your optimism is based on Atlanta doing less than 5 over .500 for the 2nd half, I'm not sure what to tell you. Bobby Cox's teams win. Period. You could say the same thing about Dusty Baker's teams. I am not saying Dusty (I think he's awful) is as good as Cox when it comes to managing, I just don't think a manager makes a big difference. I think Mazzone should get just as much credit as Cox, maybe more. It's up to the players to get it done.

  16. We scored 4.47 runs a game in '03. This year we've scored 4.48.
  17. Hmm... flaws in your optimism: (1) 5.5 back vs 11.5 back = Big difference (2) Wood is back? Yes he is. Back to his usual form of nearing 100 pitches by the 4th inning. Woo... hoo. We are 5 back in the wildcard. And getting Wood back and keeping him healthy definitely helps the team. If you don't think so, then maybe you should start your own thread.
  18. Is that in 2003, on July 26 the Cubs were 51-52 and 5 and a half back of the 'Stros. I'm sure there were plenty of people who thought the Cubs were done at that point. I'm not saying the Cubs will make the playoffs, but this season is far from over as many people on this board seem to think. Even with the recent struggles, it looks like Dusty has figured out how to fill out a decent lineup, and Wood and Prior are back. Now go ahead and tell me how stupid I am for being optimistic.
  19. Buddy, there's no one out on the block that we need, or do you want us to pull the trigger on Preston "I hit .200 on the road," Wilson? Be patient. "Friend": Patience officially gone after personally witnessing yesterday's game and watching tonight's on tv. I understand what you're saying though. We all expect a better team and we do indeed deserve it. List of players to not get rid of: Starting pitching staff Ramirez Lee Dempster Nomar The rest can send their bags packing. Why do you want to get rid of Walker, Hairston, Barrett, Cedeno and Wuertz?
  20. I doubt they'd deal Mench, but I'd love to have David Dellucci. He has a .420 OBP this year and had eye surgery in the offseason, which has really helped him recognize pitches. And unlike most of the other Rangers players, he is actually hitting better on the road.
  21. It's hard not to pitch in a lot of blow-outs when you play for the Royals. Who do you think will be picked? No one on their team is deserving, but someone has to go. Sweeney. He doesn't deserve it, but he leads the team in HR's and SLG. He has a .299 BA which is at least respectable, and he's the most known commodity on the team. If I had to guess I would bet Sweeney would too. But Sisco has a decent shot IMO.
  22. Because Jeter's intangibles make him the best player in baseball. Without him the Yankees wouldn't have won any of those World Series! Plus he made the greatest catch ever last year. Haven't you been watching ESPN? If that catch where he lands on top of Cano ends up being a top Web Gem of the year, I may very well puke. I can't believe I haven't seen David Wright's catch into the stands since the day it happened. He actually had to dive into the stands and sacrifice his body. If someone like Jeter or Edmonds made that catch, I would have seen it at least 100 times by now.
