    Yeah a controllable SP would be great. And they probably need it for next year too with Boyd/ Imanaga being FA, along with Taillon and Rea.

    I like them both. It would be nice to have Happ finish most of the rest of his career here, at least until he starts to really decline and we'd have to move on. Not sure the Cubs are willing to pay for that though. They could bring back one of Happ/Seiya and we'd be fine. We really don't have many other good options in the OF for OD 2027 besides Shaw. Ramirez could probably hold his own, but I'd wager they'd want one of Shaw/Ramirez on the bench to backup INF. They could also swing a trade.

    They're certainly still a contender for a wild card spot. But if they want to rely on something other than getting very lucky then they need a good SP if they want to go far in the playoffs. I think they need 1 of Boyd/Shota/Cabrera to shine from now to the deadline to show they can have another playoff quality SP besides Brown in order it to be worth giving up good prospects for a another good quality SP. If the trade deadline were today I think Jed would still grab us a SP but more in the Sonny Gray tier at best. I'm hopeful for Cabrera next season with the whole winter to improve but not confident if he can turn the corner this year, but it's possible. Also praying Boyd is effective and healthy I'm optimistic for Shota, he pitches well when he can locate the splitter.

    Sonny Gray is solid but Jed isn't going to give up much for "solid, or at least he shouldn't. If we give up real prospects we should target a well above-average pitcher. A rotation of Brown/Gray/Boyd/Shota-Cabrera is so-so for a playoff team but still isn't a strength and not likely to be a true WS contender against the better teams. The Dodgers and likely Brewers would still annihilate us.

    Is it safe yet to say that the Cuns are out of their dreadful team-wide offensive slump? Some individual slumps remain obviously. But even Dansby seems to be doing a bit better lately.

    Seems so rare that Bregman hits the ball hard in the air somewhere.

    Alcantara has tools but seems pretty raw in hitting skill and baserunning, and might always have below average bat-to- ball ability. If he succeeds he may be a late bloomer type, he still has a lot of baseball skills to acquire. Alcantara reminds me a bit of Morel. Lots of raw athleticism but lacking in baseball skills. Their contact skills were both poor and are both RHB and couldn't handle RHP breaking balls, especially sliders. At least Alcantara gets good marks for fielding though, unlike Morel. Like Morel, I think Alcantara probably needs to go to a low payroll team and get years of fulltime PAs where he'd be able to suck a lot longer than the Cubs are willing to put up with.

    Just noticed that the Cubs are 2nd in MLB in position player WAR, trailing only the Dodgers. Lots of that is on defense for the Cubs. If we weren't elite defensively I can only imagine how much worse our pitching would be.

    Couldn't they have just moved the game up a few hours? 11am start is odd but better than someone needing to hop on a plane. I assume this coincides with a Cubs homestsnd so this shouldn't really affect us. Trade an off day now for Aug. Bonus is the guys get to spend father's day with their kids

    During his hot month this year he was hitting more line drives, fewer GB, and pulling the ball more compared to this slump (since May 8). During his hot month he was also hitting more line drives than last year, and fewer GB. But If he's pulling the ball less and hitting more GB during this slump then what Ron Coomer is saying doesn't make sense.

    Gausman has been a great signing for them.

    Nico hitting .148 in June. Wonder if its something mental rather than physical since the beaning. Tentativeness due to some fear or something.

    Good call, yeah I could see him pinch running and defensive replacement. Not sure how much they'd want him pinch hitting, but they could use another RHH on the bench if Shaw will be iin RF the next while. If he can bunt that could be useful too.

    I see that Wicks has 101 IP total in the majors with a career 5.86 ERA. In 10 starts in Iowa this year he has a 7.05 ERA.

    So maybe the Cubs are stealing/relaying pitch grips etc at 2b and getting them all wrong? Hahaha.

    Yeah Boog has smartest man in the room syndrome. Why he and Girardi didn't get along. "You were a player and manager but you're wrong about A, B, and C". You can't challenge and call out your broadcast partner live on air. I think Cohen tries to engage with JD with the jokes and whatnot but Cohen isn't funny so JD can't respond so awkwardness fills the air. I feel bad for Cohen, he tries really hard and is probably a nice guy.

    Did Cohen work alone in Iowa? Maybe that has something to do with it.

    Shaw has closed up his stance a bunch. Not as extreme as before the tweaks last year but still closer to his old form.

    Maybe the team could add Bozo the clown on their coaching staff. Lighten up the mood in the clubhouse.

    Shaw is a SS by trade so he'd probably be fine. I wouldn't bench both Swanson and Nico at the same time though. Maybe Nico needs a couple of days off. Swanson needs a new hitting coach or something.

    Dodgers fans hate him lol. And White Sox fans, and probably others. Meh whatever. He's a good guy just rambunctious. He'll make the team, maybe not starter. The All-star ballots also highlight everyone's hitting and no defense so that probably doesn't help PCA or Nico.

    So we're on pace to use 60 pitchers this year? That's not so bad.
