  1. And the go-ahead run on 2nd. Bring the corners in yes but the middle infield too? It was a gamble and I guess just didn't work out.
  2. If they shave down Zeferjahn's grotesquely large adam's apple maybe he would pitch better?
  3. I don't blame CC there. The pen sucks so push good SP performances as hard as they can.
  4. Just be clear, I'm not saying i don't like PCA. I like him a lot, I just said I understand why some people from other teams don't. And yes, of fans from other teams, the younger fans I'm sure like him more than the older and more old school fans. Younger fans like excitement, just like i did when i was as a teenaged fan and younger.
  5. Since June 1, Seiya is 3rd in MLB in fWAR and Bregman is 5th.
  6. I get why people don't like him. The antics and swagger. You can't take the Hollywood out of him. But Non-Cubs fans don't see him everyday or how he treats teammates, media, fans etc. He's a genuinely very nice person and does his best to cater to media and fans.
  7. Shota might be better off pitching for a team with a big OF like the Dbacks.
  8. The pen is regressing to the mean a bit. We knew guys like Thorton weren't as good as their results. We need Palencia to get sharp and to get something out of Zeferjahn.
  9. If they wanted to rest Busch they should have done it long before tonight. We're playing the Brewers so it's go time, even if the division seems out of reach
  10. The difference between PCA and the theoretical perfect ballplayer isn't very big.
  11. He hasn't been good this year, I don't think it's a big worry for the Cubs.
  12. Down 2mph from this year's average. We'll see how he does next start.
  13. I saw that new catcher signing too, a 35 yo vet. I dont know if someone else is hurt or not, but they did seem to need a veteran catcher in Iowa since Belancourt left last month. Yeah would also make an Ayers call-up easier.. Not really sure now who they consider the 3rd catcher in the depth charts. Ayers would be a lot more fun to watch though.
  14. Barring a miracle my assumption is Brown's year is done. They really need to figure out that issue this offseason.
  15. Zeferjahn, Webb, and Palencia need to get it together ASAP. Zeferjahn is clearly a work in progress. Ain't nobody got time for that down the stretch in a playoff race.
  16. If there's something encouraging it's that the losses have been very close games at least so barely being beaten.
  17. They can't be losing all these close games. This sucks.
  18. They definitely need to rest Busch. It's possible Ayers gets a start there vs LHP. Shaw might also do that, but isn't ideal given his limited wingspan.
  19. They have players not on the roster on the taxi-squad all the time. You also see minor leaguers not on the 26-man in the dugout after the minor league season ends. I'm not saying they'd bring up a player on Sept 1 and leave him not rostered for a month.
  20. As i said, Ayers could be added to the team, including for reasons you've said, depending on what Counsell thinks the team could most use. Same with a lot of the guys in Iowa you mentioned.
  21. 29th out of 30 teams in pitching WAR. Thankfully we have Gausman/Holmes now.
  22. I don't think I'm "underselling" him, he has no MLB experience and just 2 years of pro experience with only 29 games at AAA. They could just as well pick up someone with more experience off the scrap heap and save the 40-man spot, like they did Arias. Whoever gets the spot isn't going to play much anyways. Shaw may be back soon, but even with Shaw they could DFA Arias if they think Dean or Ayers etc would be more useful. It all depends what Counsell thinks he needs the most. I'm not saying it won't be Ayers. I'm curious to see Ayers in action in the MLB but I also think the catching position in 2027 is the furthest thing from Counsell's mind. Since he won't play much either way, he'll get almost as much experience being in the dugout and catching bullpens while not rostered. He'll be catching bullpens all winter for our guys too i imagine. They may decide him catching in Iowa through the end of their season is more valuable for him. Or not, who knows. Ayers is likely to get some playing time next year in the MLB as any good prospect in Iowa now should, They'll obviously acquire at least 1 other C with MLB experience this winter and Ayers will at best be competing for the 2nd catcher spot or more likely as a 3rd catcher in Iowa they break in throughout next season.
