  1. Jeds job is to squeeze as much potential WAR out of the budget Ricketts gives him in order to maximize the # of team wins, so Jed has to care.
  2. If Walker Buehler gets 1/21 in this market I have no issues with acquiring Montgomery if it costs us nothing valuable.
  3. Teoscar's contract apparently has 23m in deferred money so that's nice. But still counts towards the current luxury tax right?
  4. It was the 20th biggest deal ever at the time, and among all active players in 2016 the deal gave Heyward the 18th highest AAV in baseball. It was a big deal but not sure i'd call it a megadeal. He was also coming off his age 25 season, so it makes sense they were willing to go 8 years. Would they give a 400m or 450m deal to Tucker going into his age 29 season when the extension takes effect, which would make it the 4rd highest contract in baseball history? Very doubtful. Unless we get good AAV value like the Swanson and Heyward deals were at the time, it looks like the only way we get a player of his caliber is via draft or trade.
  5. If my job were on the line i'd probably trade one of my best prospects too.
  6. I used to buy a lot of the Baseball Weekly newspapers. It's crazy to remember back when the internet didn't exist you'd wait for the next morning to read the boxsxore in your local newspaper haha, and once a week they'd publish the stats for all players on each team.
  7. Are you saying teams will trade for bad contracts to try to keep tanking with a floor? That's very possible. But then that still frees money on the team that traded the bad contract. If the rules of the cap and floor and revenue sharing ends up resulting in the same amount (or possibly more) of total team spending on players in an average offseason then what does it matter? Its possible that the salaries for star players are suppressed in FA while the other FA players earn more. Maybe studying other sports leagues is needed.
  8. Ricketts would probably love another excuse not to spend big money.
  9. It's bad for fans of the other 29 teams, but I wonder if its bad for baseball overall to have a super-team? They aren't the Bulls, but the Bulls were good for the NBA. I wonder if the Torre-era Yanks were good for the MLB? I assume so. I don't think you can punish the Dodgers for past behaviour that didn't break rules. I don't think the deferred money on Ohtani affects the luxury tax, right? They're already paying 103m least year in luxury taxes, you gotta wonder how they can slow down the Dodgers domination?
  10. If I were Sasaki i'd mostly care about the org's pitching infrastructure and how well the org is run in general since personnel can change, plus the opportunity to pitch. If he struggles at some point or gets hurt he'd face more challenge on the Dodgers than other teams to keep guaranteed playing time in the rotation. But he'd also have Ohtani and Yamamoto to talk pitching with, as a bonus. On the Cubs he'd have Imanaga.
  11. How much trade value should a team give up to have exclusive negotiating rights for a year with a player who you're probably going to have to pay fair market value for anyways? I would wager not a lot. If I were the Cubs I wouldn't have made the trade, I would have raised the payroll by another 50m.
  12. I think Ricketts would rather have 450m in his pocket than some disappointed fans.
  13. It's been over 10 years and Ricketts has never signed a megadeal. It's probably never going to happen.
  14. Sharma and Mooney at the Athletic said they doubt they extend Tucker also. But just speculation on their part based on part spending
  15. Good point, so that means the city market for his endorsements will also be a factor. LA might even have too many stars and star pitchers to have the most impact for him. New York or Chicago would make more sense there. I feel like we have about a 1 in 6 or so chance to land him.
  16. I read this article, it's just speculation, no actual intel whatsoever. Hard to see a fit here unless Ricketts goes over the tax line.
  17. I think Tucker could play CF or 1B in a pinch, like how Busch played some 2B. If Busch or PCA go on the IL I don't think he starts at those positions for weeks. IMO they'd bring up Alcantara for CF, possibly Canario, and at 1B maybe Mervis and more likely they sign a bench bat this winter that can play 1B or the corners.
  18. I believe Suzuki said that he basically wouldn't have signed here if he knew he was going to DH. They can split time between all the corner OFs at DH and occasionally PCA possibly, that's a fine compromise. They get about 1/3 time at DH each. Tucker won't like that in a walk year though either
  19. Saw a podcast proposing Seiya to Dodgers and Bichette to the Cubs. I'd consider something like that. Much easier to find a DH than a 3B. Shaw or another prospect could also DH potentially, or sign a bat.
  20. Sean Manaea just got 25m AAV. He's an average SP of the Taillon mold. Interested to see how they value Burnes with the declining K/9.
  21. Dodgers to pay 103m in luxury taxes, Mets = 97m. Cubs = 500k.
  22. Fried got 8 years. Think he may get more than 6
  23. "Your honor, my client is innocent because you're dumb and stupid and the prosecution's opinions are stinky poo-poo and my client is awesome."
  24. Thanks for clearing that up
