  1. Velo is overrated. It obviously makes a difference but you can get guys out various ways like movement, command, changing speeds, deception, keeping the ball on the ground, and velo is only one of those things, and you can't get guys out with just one of those, you need a combo of 2 or 3 at least, and velo doesn't have to be one of them. Nobody says "we need more pitchers who can change speeds well". We also tend to get a lot more excited about K% than BB%, but I don't think one is more important than the other.
  2. I looked a bunch of good Japanese pitchers that have come over to MLB. Comparing their Japanese stats to their MLB stats, their K/9 seems to stay about the same or even increase a bit in MLB, their BB/9 usually goes up a half or full run, their HR/9 seems to increase by about 0.5 runs, and their ERA goes up by about a full run. This is exactly what happened with Senga. Of course anything can happen, but If that holds we're looking at a pitcher who may put up something around an ERA in the high 3's with 9.5 K/9 (could be higher if that K/9 bump he had last season holds), 3.0 BB/9, and 1.5 HR/9. That would be very solid.
  3. Since there's a deadline on this deal maybe the physicals are already done.
  4. Lol this just sounds like the agent and Giants just leaking nonsense to Heyman for leverage. But then maybe it's true, who knows. I'm going crazy lol I still think Giants get Imanaga
  5. My guess is Giants get him, Yanks get Snell, Cubs get Montgomery or do a trade.
  6. Well it seems the guys Jed is interested in are mainly Boras clients and they'll only sign when Boras waits until all the other bigger players are off the board so he controls the market. Maybe things kick up once Imanaga signs, unless Boras waits for Stroman to sign too.
  7. Depends if Ricketts lets Jed go over the cbt line. I think they have about 50m left under I believe. Both those plans are over. Bellinger plus any of the top FA SP and a bat plus pen make them go over. Bieber projected to make 13m next year.
  8. Brandon Drury is interesting as a trade. 1 yr left with Angels, can play 3b and 1b.
  9. These are my thoughts also. I can't see them losing Stroman and being satisfied with a lower tier SP unless they really see something in them. I think they trade for a SP.
  10. I don't have an issue with rationality but aggressiveness on the bases is good. They improved it with the new news last year creating more SB attempts.
  11. Nice to see the market finally moving a bit again
  12. They definitely don't need a DH for 4 years, even if the bat is pretty solid.
  13. Manaea's mph went up a couple of MPH but his fb actually was hit slightly worse last year. The sweeper you mention was basically unhittable though, and he didn't use it much.
  14. More worried about the bat. But I don't think anyone is expecting him to be any kind of impact player. If he's able to play 100 games a year and put up 1.5 WAR or so and be just average i'll be happy.
  15. Giants signed Lee, I forgot about that. Might be out on Bellinger then.
  16. Who could be in on Chapman?? Tigers, Jays, AZ, Phillies but probably not, Yanks but probably not
  17. I could see them going a bit cheaper than Bellinger/Chapman and grabbing a so-so position guy like Hoskins or Joc Pederson plus a FA MORP.
  18. Looks like Giants probably have about 30m in payroll space left if they spend the same as last year (about 210m). So they'd likely have room for either 1 big FA SP or big FA bat like Bellinger. I think if it comes down to Giants vs Cubs for Bellinger then we have the edge if offers are equal given he liked Chicago and hit well there. Giants don't play in a good hitting park for LHB, plus the Cali income taxes factor.
  19. I don't see Kiermaier as a 4th OF for them when they only have 1 good OF right now, and he was their starting CF last season. They could make Bellinger the LF I suppose.
  20. Jays just signed Kiermeier or however you spell it
  21. 28 is still younger than the vast majority of FA's. If it's a 6 year deal then he's signed through age 33 (well, would turn 34 a few months before the contract ends), which isn't bad at all. Given the age and how the Cubs avoid post-prime years like the plague (and rightly so) the Cubs will want him more than a 31 y/o like Chapman unless Chapman comes on a lower AAV and only on, say, a 3 year deal, which probably doesn't happen anyways.
  22. The Giants are the only team I could see in on Bellinger from that list.
  23. You can watch him pitch in the WBC on youtube, his stuff is ok but nothing impressive. Command seems good though. Seems like a MORP, I like him less than Snell and Montgomery.
  24. Why would they sign Bader if they have Nimmo? Moving Nimmo to RF/LF?
