  1. Given the budget Hoyer had to spend I'd give the offseason an A or A-. A bit iffy on Hendricks but I think they wanted a 1 yr guy with all the kids coming so that's fine. Hard to imagine a better offseason on that budget.
  2. Andruw Jones was the best defensive CF in baseball history, according to the stats.
  3. His slider wasn't very good, could be the dry AZ air or just it being early.
  4. I get the hesitancy on Bellinger but it's weird Chapman didn't get more. I guess the market is hurting because of the TV deal stuff.
  5. Counsell not really looking for a DH, will go by committee and will use it to rest regulars too: https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2024/03/01/cubs-tentatively-looking-to-rotate-players-at-designated-hitter/
  6. For a big power guy he has a beautiful swing. He's definitely not just up there playing HR derby. Triantos also has a beautiful swing.
  7. The other sun play: https://twitter.com/search?q=pca cubs&src=typed_query&f=top
  8. What does Cubs twitter think of PCA? I don't go on twitter a ton.
  9. Thanks for the heat maps, that's so helpful. Red flag for me is that swing and miss on the fastballs up was happening in Sept and he was apparently working on it throughout the winter and the same thing is happening again now in ST. Though maybe he didn't see a lot of live ABs over the winter so there's room for adjustment. Let's hope.
  10. Where did you get the gun readings? Were you at the game? Yeah might be a pen guy at this point
  11. Sucks for Davis on the concussion. I've been beaned flush on the head when I was younger, not MLB mph obviously, but it still concussed me slightly, enough to get checked out at the ER to be safe. Mostly just some sensitivity to light for a week or 2. Maybe he woke up with a bit of a headache too.
  12. Like they said, he bobbled the ball on the transfer on a potential double-play then rushed the throw to get the runner at 1B and threw off mark. A few games ago I saw Morel charge in to take the in-between hop on a grounder instead of the long or short hop. Luckily he made the play. I'm hoping he just needs lots of reps. But he should have taken a gazillion grounders at 3B over the winter you'd think, which is a bit worrisome. But he's made good plays at 3B this ST too, his hands/reactions seem quick enough, hopefully its mostly just the judgement stuff, which can improve with reps. It's still Feb and hasn't play in live games since Winter Ball, and i'm sure he's getting reps in on the days he isn't playing. Not worried about anything in Feb.
  13. Mervis has had a good eye for sure this ST. He looks a tad frustrated the last couple of games.
  14. Apparently he's working on some new pitches.
  15. Seems like PCA may have an issue with velocity, especially up in the zone. Makes sense given his golf-like swing. He seems to be behind on fastballs a lot, including during his short stint last year in MLB. Statcast says he saw 51 fastballs in the MLB last year and had a whiff % of 52% on those fastballs. To compare, Wisdom's biggest whiff% pitches last year was breaking balls at 43%. PCA says he's been working on getting to pitches up over the winter. I think he definitely needs some AAA time to work on it.
  16. Counsell should have taken him out immediately. First 2nd guess for the new manager! Lol
  17. 38 players on the Cubs bench today. Doesn't include bullpen.
  18. Everyone but Steele is a question mark in the rotation IMO. I'm not that big on Wicks either until he finds a fastball that hitters won't crush. Maybe he starts using his sinker a lot more. His 4-seamer was terrible last year. But he's solid as a #5.
  19. I've read 5 years of service time means a player can refuse assignment
  20. His K's should improve if they decide to turn him into a reliever, so don't mind the trade at all.
  21. Horn gone. Had lots of walks, not much of a loss it looks like. Better than mlb talent leaving
  22. Wisdom isn't good defensively, he doesn't have a lot of value at 3b. Can't see Morel doing much worse than Wisdom did defensively. Mastrobuoni might even be ahead in the depth charts over Wisdom at 3B. At this point Wisdom is mostly a 1B/DH platoon option vs LHP. How many teams would grab him off waivers at 2.75m?
  23. Busch is also an option at 3B if all else fails, plus Mastrobuoni and some other guys who will be in Iowa. If Wisdom plays 3B for any extended period of time this year something has gone horribly wrong.
  24. My best guesses are Wisdom, Thompson, Hodge, or Horn. Or trade. Kilian is a possibility too I guess.
