  1. I can see Iglesias assuming he doesn’t cost much, at all. He makes a lot of money so if the Cubs take his salary the prospect doesn’t need to be much. Other than that, I doubt they do anything else with the pen.
  2. Isn’t Guerrero a longer deal? 10/$500 is high unless they have deferred money. I am thinking 12/$500M
  3. Not getting Suarez doesn’t bother me in the least. They need at least a solid MOR starter. That’s way more important than Suarez. .
  4. Great question. I was wondering the same thing. Also, I honestly do not think the Cubs get a deal done for a controlled starter. Look at what Bieber went for. A top 100 guy. What the hell would teams be asking for Gore, Ryan, Cabrera, Alcantara or Keller? In some cases probably 3 top 100 guys or more. Even the least desirable would cost Cassie+. I am starting to lean to best rental. And even that could cost Long or more. My hope is Kelly.
  5. That would eliminate plan B. Sure hope they add a decent starting pitcher.
  6. Ok, didn’t know that. Rasmussen is a bad idea then. I think Jason summaried the day pretty well. I would just add a 3rd option if they can’t get a controlled starter and Bieber is too pricey. The rental. And if those I would be ok with Kelly, Morton and Gallen, in that order. I also wouldn’t mind Iglesias if he is cheap.
  7. I am going to toss out a hunch name. Drew Rasmussen. He has one more year of control after this one. Rays usually dump these sort of guys!at this time. The Cubs and Rays have gotten together before so they know each others organization. Just feels like a move that Jed would/could make.
  8. That would be the perfect world. I agree.
  9. I thought you were high in him. Not the case any longer?
  10. Kelly would fit in well with that combo. One high end guy who is a high risk and one steady starter. And, of course, a solid pen arm. I will add that with Hawkins having ties to the Guardian FO it is probably something they can work out.
  11. I think I like plan B better. I think Kelly would be a fine add to the rotation and Jax to the open. Plus Jax could probably start next year in the rotation. I know that isn’t the point of your post. And I also agree with your POV. Just chiming in on what I like more. I would like it more if Castro is added to Jax.
  12. Best part of the line up. Why not Keller? Maybe he even throws the next inning. Off day tomorrow.
  13. Cubs seem to keep a tighter lip on what they are doing. So I am not concerned we are not hearing about them. Plus they also seem to do unexpected moves. So again, not concerned.
  14. I don’t agree in Turner. Used correctly he can hit some lefties. I know people complain every time he is in the line up instead of Busch, but he isn’t a bad bat against a lefty. But he should be the 26th man, not the 24th. He needs to be the worst bat on the bench.
  15. He also pitched for CC. So might be someone CC wants.
  16. Lose Amaya for 2 rentals? No thank you. And if Suarez isn’t a rental that means he took the players option. Which means he does poorly the rest of the season or gets hurt. Then you have a bad pen arm for 2 years at a high cost. Easy pass.
  17. I agree with this. I think there is a trade to be made with Cassie’s name in it. All Jed has to do is make it happen. And as you said, he doesn’t want to make it happen if Cassie is in a game. He still might not do a trade with Cassie. But I have a feeling he could, right now, if he wanted too.
  18. I think there will be several trade throughout baseball. Sellers still want to get rid of their rentals. But the problem is the sellers will get more than what most people are comfortable with because of so many buyers. Guys like Suarez & Cease are going to be pricey. MOR starters, pen arms and bench bats are going to cost more than most here will be happy with. From the Cubs POV, you may even see Brown go for a rental(Cease or Suarez) Jed is going to have to overpay if he wants to add talent. The trick is not to overpay that much and still give the best package.
  19. Did he say “convicted” or conflicted or maybe even constricted? 😅 JK. I have hope and faith Jed will get something done that will help the team.
  20. If they are going pure rentals with the possibility of two pitchers each being in a playoff rotation I would go Cease and Bieber. Sticking with rentals maybe Castro, or if Happ is more hurt than we think, Suarez. Finish with Iglesias. That would cost a fair amount of minor league assets, even for rentals.
  21. Agreed. Or, if not traded, they are guys Cubs are discussing in trade(s). Ballasteros is fine since Suzuki can just play the OF. But if they are going with the best they have now in the minors I would think Cassie would be the guy. 🤷
  22. Twins Duran for hugs and left the dugout!
  23. BTW, Rea might just go 4. But that isn’t a good thing. Pitch count might get him and/or he might not get out of this inning anyway. Again, not a good thing.
