  1. That had to be the dumbest play by a catcher I have seen this year. What the horsefeathers was Mcquire thinking?
  2. I agree Shaw could have had that ground ball, but Tucker had no chance at that fly ball. Maybe PCA playing right gets to it, but not a normal right fielder.
  3. They do not need to do anything with Happ.
  4. I agree with this as well. But somehow they always compete.
  5. I don’t see them getting anyone the level of Peralta or the brewers rookie. But sure, it would close the gap. And the Uns have the better offense. Point is, Brewers are very good with that staff.
  6. I would guess what they are saying is no one is untouchable and the Cubs will be aggressive for anyone available. That is all in to me.
  7. I would think Skenes is not even an option. To me, all in would be. Cabrera or Ryan then a Suarez + either Kelly or Gallen, trade. Maybe Bednar or another pen arm. And I don’t really see them doing all this, either. I think another guy who might be an option would be Gore. Mainly because the Nats are in a state of flux. He would be my top target if the Nationals would consider moving him.
  8. It isn’t a baseball season if this fanbase doesn’t suggest Happ should go.
  9. Nope. But sometimes you have to acknowledge other teams are good too. Absolutely fine to be positive. And I agree with you the Cubs have a great chance tonight.
  10. None of those guys should be particularly expensive. All but Eovaldi are FA and the end of this year. And Eovaldi cost $25M a year for the next 2 years. TBH, I am not sure the Cubs would be interested in him because of that. If they did trade for him you could pretty much forget about the idea of signing Tucker unless they dumped someone after the season.
  11. Serious question. When don’t you think that? You always think the Cubs should win and the Brewers should lose.
  12. If the Cubs don’t want to lose that much prospect capital I would like to see them go to the Dbacks and get both Kelly and Gallen. Similar to when the Cubs traded Samardzija and Hammel to the A’s. The difference is both these guys are rentals, so they shouldn’t cost a higher prospect like Russell was. Might lose Long and a lottery ticket guy, and maybe someone else🤷. Gallen has done well his last few starts. He might be good from here on out.
  13. I don’t think any team will pay a really high price tag for Alcantara. But I also think some are ridiculous to think he can be had cheaply(Triantos). He will cost a higher prospect than Triantos. Someone will pay more than that.
  14. I think if you get Alcantara they also need to get Cabrera. Then you worry about what needs to be given up. And it will be a lot. That said, I want Joe Ryan if the twins would move him. Him and Cabrera. Then don’t even worry about Suarez. They would need someone, but that someone could be Moncada for almost nothing. Just a guy who can hit league average. Urias? Castro? Or some other guy who is a FA next year for a lottery ticket. Add two starters like Cabrera and Ryan and let all else fall in line.
  15. I like your targets. I just have no idea on the costs.
  16. I think just as many thought they were giving up too much for him when they made the trade.
  17. Maybe not that drastic, but I do tend to agree with you. It is very hard to figure out what is needed in the way of prospects to make a trade. I will just say, IMO, if/when the Cubs do make a trade, that most here will feel it is an overpay. I think a lot of fans expect to trade 3 lbs of hamburger for 1 lb is prime steak. It doesn’t work that way. I think if everyone here likes a proposed trade, it probably is not fair for the other team.
  18. I realize that. But I think for Skenes it would have to be quality over quantity. I am not sure the Cubs could put together a package that would have the Pirates moving Skenes.
  19. That group doesn’t get the Pirates to even respond. Getting Skenes for that group is less likely than the Cubs giving that up for Alcantara. Neither would happen.
  20. I’m not talking about that specific example. As I said originally, the Cubs would say no. But I do think the fanbase here is undervaluing the cost of what a solid pitcher will cost. I think a lot of people will be complaining about what the Cubs give up for whoever they get.
  21. I agree with you and we all say the same thing. But what if that is the cost? We are all biased. We are fans. So inherently we expect to get steak for hamburger. I do think trades are going to cost us a lot more than we all think they will cost.
  22. I can agree with this, depending on the cost to get Suarez. They can also look to guys like Castro from the Twins to fill in for Shaw and/or improve their bench. Suarez is a big swing guy. If he is cost prohibitive a lower cost guy to be insurance for Shaw could work too.
  23. You are comparing Shaw to a guy who at this point, probably isn’t even available. I mean, sure, if you asked me if I would rather have Suarez in the line up this year than Shaw, of course I would take Suarez. But yiu are suggesting the Cubs are playing Shaw instead of Suarez. That isn’t the case. They don’t have Suarez to play.
