  1. If the Cubs think Morel can handle 3rd I would rather trade other pieces for Naydor. Maybe Alcantara. Then have Naydor, Hoskins and Morel all in the line up.
  2. if they want someone longer than 1 year and a lefty bat I would rather have Naydor. But if they got a lefty bat another way, Hoskins works too. If DH is open they could actually have Naydor and Hoskins.
  3. If Ohtani was willing to sign the same contract with the Cubs and it really is only going to show $40M a year on the teams payroll, I agree the Cubs should have done this. But I doubt they had the opportunity. I think it was always the Dodgers. I do question the ownership and if they are committed to spending at that level, but in this case I don’t think it matters. He wouldn’t have done this deal with the Cubs.
  4. According to reports he was flying to Toronto on Friday to sign a deal with the Blue Jays. For a guy who wanted the negotiations to be quiet, there sure was a lot of fake news going on. So if the Cubs honored his wishes and actually kept things quiet, do we really know what to believe?
  5. He may be underpaid for what he does for the team in revenues. But that is still a large chuck of money of the teams payroll. That is the issue with if the Cubs got him. Maybe it won’t matter with the Dodgers. Maybe that is why they made more sense.
  6. The key words on your post are “my thinking is”. Because honestly you have no idea if they were in at the high $500M to even $600M or not. It was reported the Dodgers added $100M the last day or so before he signed. So if the Cubs were in at the $500M to $600M that means they were in. I seriously doubt this was just something the Cubs were doing to make the fans feel like they were trying. I absolutely believe they tried but Ohtani was never going to leave LA.
  7. As long as Ricketts owns the team that is the persona he chooses to portray. So that being the case, I think it is better we didn’t get Ohtani.
  8. So would I. But I also know the Cubs ownership. With this ownership they would not spend to add on. Sure, give me a different owner and I want the best player in the world. I am only answering the question base on reality and who owns the team.
  9. Agreed. If the Cubs got Ohtani, for the next decade Ricketts wouldn’t have added talent around him unless they got lucky enough to home grow that talent. He wouldn’t spend to add. Sure, would have been awesome to have him but that would be all the Cubs had. It would have ended up a marketing tool to get fans into the park, sell merchandise, raise tv prices all to see Ohtani. Not to see a wiinning team. I just don’t think ownership is that committed to winning that they would continue to add what was needed year after year and would point to their team payroll as a reason why.
  10. If the Cubs did sign Bellinger and Hoskins and then trades for either Polanco or Lowe, between Hoskins, Morel and the guy they got in the trade they can fill 1st, 3rd, and DH. So what they do with Morel is just make sure he is in the line up. Best case scenerio is he can handle 3rd. Then Polanco/Lowe and Hoskins share 1st and DH. I honestly don’t want Morel traded. They need his power somewhere. And now that DH is still open there is no need to deal him, even while hoping he may be able to handle 3rd or 1st. They fill all the positions if need with solid players.
  11. Yep. This is why it doesn’t matter to me if the Cubs came 2nd or 4th in his decision. There was really only 1 option. I don’t feel the Cubs look bad in this at all. The tried in the event he wasn’t tied to LA. He was, so they didn’t get him. Time to move on.
  12. And Soto doesn’t pitch, too. I can see $500M for Soto, but he isn’t getting more than Ohtani.
  13. I don’t want Polanco instead of Morel. I would be ok with him with Morel. He is an upgrade if Madrigal or Wisdom.
  14. Just get a team good enough to get to the playoffs. Short series, even 7 games, anything can happen. Not worried about that, at all. Cross that bridge if/when we get to it. And happy to have to worry about it.
  15. I guess I missed Jansen. I honestly asked the question because just off the top of my head thinking of their roster I didn’t come up with many home grown players who were regulars.
  16. I don’t agree with this. They tried. So what if they finished 4th or 2nd? We don’t know the money. We don’t know the reasons. If SF finished 3rd that is still in California and still someplace he might be more comfortable playing. He might not like the media attention. Of the 4 Chicago has the most media around their team. I just don’t see this as suggesting the Cubs look bad in this. And, I have been on the other side against Jed and Ricketts in the past. This is just not a time I can criticize them.
  17. Or they can make a smallish trade for Polanco to play 3rd. Also, and j hate bringing this up, but, Morel is playing third in the DR. He can be an option. And finally they can do a bigger deal and try getting Glasnow and Lowe. And he can play 3rd. I don’t feel it has to be Chapman or Madrigal. if they can get Lowe or even Polanco and still have Morel they would actually have a decent line up.
  18. He said last decade. When did Kershaw come up?
  19. Honestly I was drawing a blank. That said, Cubs brought up Bryant, Schwarber, Steele, Alzolay the last decade. Of those guys the only useful ones for the Dodgers last year were Smith and Outman. I agree the Dodgers farm system has been better, but the Cubs are on the rise. I also agree with you on Muncy and J, Turner. Dodgers do have a way of picking guys up and turning them into assets.
  20. Who are the “studs” they Dodgers produced the last decade?
  21. Not many. Sorry but I can’t blame the Cubs for not getting him at that figure.
  22. Time to start the off season for the Cubs. Honestly can’t fault them for not getting Ohtani. That is a crazy deal. They would have never added to him had he signed that here.
  23. If they did get 2 of the 3 I would hope it was Bellinger and Hoskins. They need a left handed bat.
  24. True, but offense has to come somewhere. If he is going to be in the line up he hits 9th, the catcher 8th. You need a solid 7.
  25. You beat me to this. I was going to say the same thing. I don’t think a reputable sports reporter is going to report anything until it is 100% official.
