  1. Not a huge deal to me either way. But would rather have either Cooper or Peralta over having both Madrigal and Mastrobuoni on the roster the same time. Both of those guys gives the Cubs a little more power than carrying both Madrigal and Mastro. Won’t be upset or angry with the team choosing Mastro and Madrigal, I would just rather they only had one of them on the roster.
  2. I don’t really have a problem with Madrigal making the team. I just don’t really want him and Mastrobuoni on it at the same time. I think Wisdom is a lock for the team. And I would rather have either Cooper or Peralta as the last bay over either Madrigal Or Mastrobuoni. Because Peralta is a lefty and Cooper is a right handed bat, I would like to see Mastro paired with Cooper and/or Madrigal paired with Peralta.
  3. I don’t see the Cubs taking someone else off the 40 man to have Peralta and Cooper on the bench. Maybe if they traded either Wisdom or Madrigal for someone they didn’t have to put in the 40 man roster this would work. Otherwise, I think Wisdom has a spot. Another reason I think Wisdom has a spot is because I don’t think the Cubs would go with just Mastrobuoni as the only other guy who can play 3rd. Again, I see Wisdom as a sure thing and then either Peralta and Madrigal or Cooper and Mastrobuoni.(when all are healthy)
  4. The only thing Madrigal has going to him is he is probably the best fielding 3rd baseman we have. But for me, he would be sent down when Wisdom comes back. I think Mastrobuoni gives them a little more versatility.
  5. I hope it is Madrigal or Mastro. And more specifically Madrigal. However, if Peralta agrees to go down to Iowa, when everyone is healthy, I would like to see Wisdom have one spot on the bench and then the last 2 either be Madrigal and Peralta or Mastro and Cooper. Either scenerio gives them 2 lefties on the bench.
  6. Thank you. That kid can’t catch a break.
  7. Does anyone know anything about Davis? He did play in a game after the concussion but hasn’t been seen again. Any word on him?
  8. If it isn’t zero it is damn close to it. It would be cool if we want to rebuild AGAIN. Otherwise I do not care to see that. Not all of them as regulars, anyway.
  9. I don’t agree the Cubs staff has to be lucky to be good. I just think the Cubs have pitchers that don’t look very good using whatever metrics MLB uses when the predict results. But I do think the Cubs use their own analysis when determining what they expect from their pitchers. And generally I trust the Cubs here. Hendricks has had a career out pitching his FIP. Last year Steele Assad, & Wicks out pitched their protections. When guys do that, often people call it luck. But when they do it year after year I begin to think maybe whatever baseball is using to predict results might not be totally accurate. Maybe the Cubs know something or rate pitchers differently than MLB. And maybe they are right, not lucky. When you don’t have stuff monsters in the rotation you never get projected highly. But maybe since they are more of a pitch to contract staff, defense plays a huge part in over performance. And the Cubs have a solid defense.
  10. I would agree Keegan would be the first to be dropped. Maybe AGAIN, something is wrong with Davis and they put him on the 60 day IL. That would also open up a spot.
  11. Well there you go. Guess the Cubs didn’t want to open up a 40 man spot. They also might want a little more flexibility with 2 spots in the pen as guys they can bring up and send down freely. So Little has to be one of those spots, right? I would guess Cuas is the second and Wesneski sent down.
  12. What is the line up Counsell seems to have settled on? I know Happ, Suzuki, Bellinger and Morel. But what does the rest look like? Is Tauchman in the line up against righties?
  13. So Cuas and Wesneski get sent down? Wesneski will probably be stretched out.
  14. I know, but I imagine there is someone they can take off the 40 man, if they wanted Edwards.
  15. We will see. Because they have options I wouldn’t be shocked if Edwards beats one of them out. But I have no issues if they did keep those two. That would be my choice. But sometimes options come into play when defending who makes the team.
  16. Not interested
  17. It does appear to be a tight fit for Edwards. They have Merryweather, Neris, Alzolay, Smyle, Lieter, Almonte as guys I would think make the team. Then they have Wesneski, Little, Cuasand probably Edwards for the last 2 spot. If Edwards does make it I imagine it would be because Cuas, Wesneski and Little have options left. And even if he does make the team over 2 of those guys , when Taillon comes back someone else has to be either let go or head to Iowa. So it would be let Edwards go or send Assad or the other pitcher on the OD roster with options left down. And this doesn’t even account for guys like Lovelady and Escobar.
  18. Good question. Anyone know? Why would anyone want Lovelady over Little? Also, according to BN Smith will opt out. I kind of wish he would have agreed to going down to Iowa and have the Cubs until 5/1 to bring him up.
  19. I agree with this. As I said in my post before you posted, I wish the Cubs signed him. But the fact they didn’t and they probably are not going to sign Belt either, kind of indicates they may not be totally sold on Morel at third, or they expect a young guy to come up soon”ish”. Either Shaw to play 3rd, and Morel does DH, PCA to play center and in that case Morel stays at 3rd and DH split between other outfielders and Busch, or a bat like Canario, Cassie or someone we don’t expect, performs well at Iowa and he is brought up to DH. He would have been nice and much more a sure bat, but I do understand why they didn’t do it.
  20. Would have liked him that price.
  21. If that is the order they go lefties in a row. Normally it wouldn’t be all in the same series but I don’t really like 3 lefties in a row. I think Assad gets dropped when Taillon comes back.
  22. When you factor in the soft cap the Cubs were working with, I completely agree with you. All his signings and the trade he made make sense. But coming in I think most wanted a little more and wanted the Cubs to stretch the payroll a bit. It is a self imposed ceiling. That is the reason for a little lower grade, IMO. Had they signed one more bat, whether it be Belt of even JDM and were comfortable with a $250M budget it would have been a very good, B+ even A, off season. Really there should be 2 grades. Hoyer/Hawkins get a B+ /A for working well with what their budget was. And B- for the FO/ownership for having a decent off season but not taking advantage of a weaker division by spending a little more to be a clear favorite in the division. Using the first line of LT was not necessary for this team. That is the only complaint of the off season, for me.
  23. I am with you on this. All deals taken in their own were very good. He loses a little in his grade because he didn’t do as much as many fans wanted. But, as you said, I blame Ricketts for that more than Hoyer. If the Cubs could have spend maybe even $10M more signing Belt instead of trying guys like Cooper, Peralta and Smith would have made for a B+ off season IMO.
  24. I don’t see them opening up a 40 man spot for Bote. I kind of see the last 3 spots breaking down to Wisdom, one of Madrigal or Mastro, and then one of Cooper, Smith, Peralta, Canario. This is assuming all healthy. So this will not be the OD roster. I think if Mastro is on the team a guy like Cooper or Canario has a better chance to be on the team then the left handed bats. But when Madrigal is up, I can see a place for Smith/Peralta. With the probability of both Wisdom and Madrigal starting in the IL, Cooper looks likely to make the team. Then it comes down to the last spot. Do they want a 3rd lefty bat or a 3rd righty bat. The advantage for Canario is they don’t have to fool around with the 40 man. But I would like them to keep Smith around some way. Maybe he will go to Iowa for a bit to prove he is the guy he was before the bad hand.
